I grew up watching the great one. McDavid brings me back to that. Unreal. |

That's pretty cool for the North QMJHL division. Does Connor play for Val-d'Or or Rimouski?
BTW: Not to be a killjoy but...In '95-'96 Mario Lemieux reached 70 points in just 25 games finishing with 161 points in 70 games. 161 was only his 3rd highest total so not the finest season for him. Think about that. 70 points in the first 25 games?! It took CM to play 43 to get to that number. But Mario got “only” 91 points in his last 45 games (he only played in 70 games that season). Slacker. He also accounted for 5% of all the goals scored in the entire league.
And all that didn't win them a cup that season either. |

I grew up watching Gretzky too, was at the Aud the night he surpassed Esposito. Maybe its just me, but McDavid's game reminds me more of Paul Coffey rather than Gretzky. Having said that, I don't really see enough of McDavid as I don't watch as much as I used to. So I see highlights of him skating past everyone more often than not. It seems to me his game is predicated more on the speed at which he does things rather than the instinctual and analytical way Gretzky would dissect the offensive zone once he gained the zone or established possession there. In other words, McDavid slows the game down in a different way than Gretzky, even if the results are similar. |

Good for Mario, for scoring at an above average clip when goals were more often. No one is discrediting him for being one of the top 3 players of all time. Just giving respect for someone who is probably the best player of this time. Probably even better than Crosby once both careers are said and done.
But hey, live in the past, don't recognize current elite talent, and bark at clouds. If you want to compare elite talents of the past I am sure some people here will be more than happy to discuss Gretzky Vs Mario, or any other elite talents of the past you wish to argue for or against.
I am here to recognize current greatness. The past is in our heads, and the current is front of our eyes. I would rather live in the current and appreciate what we are seeing, not what we can remember. |

Well said!
How McDavid is outplaying his peers is easily on par with Mario and even Gretz. We are so fortunate to be able to watch McDavid!

150 in 82 games? That's a slower pace than this season! Pretty sure McDavid is privately gunning for 200, not 150. Not saying he'll do it. Very unlikely. But that's probably the crazy target. |
