Yes to every thumbs up!

How many times did the commentators talk about Ottawa's speed on the attack? Every line played with great pace. Even without Chabot and Formenton, the Sens were able to sustain attack speed through the neutral zone.

No doubt Jimmy is on his way to becoming a superstar. But, full marks to Connor Brown and Pinto for coming together and giving the Sens a solid second line.

Will Stutzle, Pinto, Norris, Formenton, JBD, Brannstrom, Zub, Gustafsson, or any others head to Belleville for the AHL playoffs?

Appreciate comment suggesting Smith will show in the Jack Adams' vote.

Love this team!

I thought there was no Calder Cup but they were still considering some kind of post season play. Disappointing.

Don’t remember which division is. But one gonna play for the champion of the division. Would be nice if the north do the same

Pretty obvious that Pinto is now the #1 C on the Sens. He looks like the prototypical #2 C that can do it all on Stanley cup contender. When they fill the #1 C slot, Norris will get pushed down to #3 C where they projected him to play.

I think that is correct. Pinto looks like he knows what he is supposed to do and he will figure it out very quickly.

Secondn line center may depend one who can put up more points.

Two way play is important, but you need a guy who can put the puck in the net, which so far Norris is demonstrating he can.

Norris doesn't make others better. He's a product of who he plays with, he's just there. Kyle Turris-2.0

I like how the defence has matured. No one seems to panic with the puck. They take that extra moment to make the correct play
I also like the wall battles, they get right in there like a pack ,not waiting for 1 person to dig it out.

Overall great stuff even if it is a late run i am leaning as well its more then fools gold. Next season will be different in pressure, but its trending positvely.

The Senators are looking like a team that is writing the textbook on how to do a rebuild right. I wish the Jets would of trusted their younger defense prospects the way the Sens did with their kids as they are looking like the team that is most likely going to bring the Cup back to Canada first. The Jets young guns can't seem to earn a shot out of the AHL or press box, even with losses mounting with the veterans. I expect a deep run for the Sens within 2 to 3 seasons.

I still hopes Tkatchuk gets his face punched in but Tim Stutzle was a steal of a pick last year.

A+ comment.

Building trust in the young guys has been a major development story for the Sens this year.

If you are Sens fan you love Tkachuk, if you are not a Sens fan you have an inside look at the biggest pain in the butt in the NHL. Love him.

See, the one thing about this team I wouldn't give accolades to this season is coaching and management. Post trade deadline play suggests we could be in the playoff picture right now. This team didn't add, it subtracted, and it got immeasurably better. It actually has benefited from key injuries to 'established" players - Chabot should get injured for a month every season (which will assuredly happen with his poor ice time management), because it will give our other young up and comers the ice time to show what they can do.

Now clearly DJ Smith isn't a bad player coach because the team can play, but his roster decisions to play shambling corpses over young stars for most of the season, and to drain our star defender with overallocation of ice time, leaves a ton to be desired. Sure, part of that is PD, but PD at least fixed his mistakes and took away DJs broken toys by the deadline. In fairness, many coaches fall victim to the 'veteran leadership' fallacy. Veterans who can play hockey well, sure sign me up - but give me a player with 'character' who can also put it in the net. I'm just hoping PD leaves this team alone in the off-season, otherwise we risk a rinse and repeat situation.

Out of all the teams to miss playoffs, I consider your club to be the hardest working and best coached unit out there. Honestly. You guys are absolute badgers, and never gave up even when eliminated. I don't think too many fans are disappointed in your season, with the Edmonton series being the lone exception. Pinto/Batherson/Norris/Zub all looking better than I had expected, and with your other top prospects, this team will be a force in no time.

Personally, I think you have to give the management a bit of slack here. First off, it can't be just glossed over that this has been a highly unusual compressed season, with odd scheduling, and no training camp. Next, coming into the season all of Norris, Batherson, Stutzle, White, Zub, and Brannstrom were major question marks, not to mention that players like Formenton, Pinto, Mete, and Bernard-Docker weren't even on the roster. So quite literally over half of the current roster had no assurance earlier in the season of being able to handle the minutes they would eventually have earned.

And for me, that's the key word - the young players have now earned their roster spots, and taken full ownership of the team. Had they rushed the kids in without support and had them not respond well, you would have heard endless chirps about how they learned nothing from teams like the Oilers and Sabres, who rushed their player development. Like anything else, you can hope for the best, but should plan for the worst. As it turns out, it took less than half a season for the team's new identity to emerge, and the results are starting to look more and more encouraging. But assuming that could have been rushed or guaranteed coming right out of training camp is a pretty questionable bit of Monday-morning QB-ing.

On the TEAM1200 earlier, both guys were saying they wouldn't protect White in the upcoming expansion draft.

I found this a little surprising. I know that contract is difficult to live up to, but I thought he was playing better this year. Depends how tight the budget it down the road when they need to re-sign all the big name guys.

Having White or Tierney leave would create some space in the lineup and cap. I assume one will be left unprotected. However, Dorion could go a few ways. I was pretty surprised Watson was protected on the TSN list last night during the intermission.

This seems like questionable logic, if it's based on actual player value. Who does leaving White exposed really allow them to protect? If they left White exposed and protected Tkachuk, Batherson, Paul, and C.Brown, they could still protect Abramov and L. Brown, plus one of Dadonov, Tierney, or Watson. Now, maybe they're assuming that White's contract would scare Seattle off, and allow them to effectively protect an 'extra' forward, but I'd be surprised if the team really valued having 1-2yrs at most of Dadonov, Tierney, or Watson vs. the prime 4-5yrs of White's career. Plus, it means any idea of protecting Murray should be thrown right out the window, because they really need to be protecting Gustavsson.

White is not currently playing to his contract. Any talk about exposing White is a statement that he may not be expected to live up to his contract. While White has improved this year, he still has a ways to go.

Okay, but has Murray lived up to his contract? Has Dadonov? Has Zaitsev? Has Tierney? If they leave those guys exposed, then I'll be more fine with White being exposed. Otherwise, I'm not sure what the point is. White came from quite literally being benched at the start of the year, to being on pace for 15G+, playing a solid two-way role, matching Dadonov's offense, and having more hits than Dadonov/Tierney combined. Plus, the 6yr deal was 100% the team's fault. They wanted to sign Chabot/White to long-term deals to make a point that the young core is excited about staying in Ottawa. Not such a great message to be throwing one of them away for nothing because in hindsight you prefer the idea of a bridge contract.

End of the day, this is a Eugene Melnyk team. While I think it is a long shot for Seattle to take on ugly contracts that Ottawa has, it wouldn't surprise me to see a guy like White available just to see if they bite. Same can be said for the other ugly contracts.

The player that Ottawa loses should not have a huge impact on the Ottawa team if they play it right.

I’ll respectfully disagree for a couple reasons:

1. This team is looking great, but it’s garbage time, so take it with a grain of salt. I wouldn’t expect the to go 7-2-1 in their opening ten games next season. Don’t get me wrong, it’s positive and great to see, but the pressure is off them and on everyone else.

2. I feel like the old guys were the shield this year. They were easy to blame when things didn’t go well, but let’s be honest, this team was never expected to win a lot this year. PD signed some guys to one year deals, they took all the heat and the young guys didn’t get their confidence crushed, and then he flipped them out for more assets. Seems genius to me.

Expectations are different next year. The young guys need to ride that confidence and be in the hunt next year. If Dorion goes and signs another Paucette this summer, then I’ll agree with you. I believe this rebuild is defined by this off-season and the results next year.

Don't underestimate Melnyk's penchant to be petty and vindictive. If White is not perceived to be living up to his contract, he may be thrown on the list. Matt Murray and others are also candidates.
