I wanted Palmieri as well. I thought he was a better fit this team. I am not ready to say that the trade was a bust. I was not sold on Halls attitude.

Lets see what the playoffs bring. Hopefully Varly is okay.

Same. Palmieri played hard last night. Team as a whole played the Bruins tough. If they continue to play that way against the Pens, should be a good series.

As great a trade JGP was last year... I think Palmieri looks to be the opposite. I am hoping you can all come back to this during the playoffs and tell me how wrong I am.. but right now this team desperately needed a scoring winger after losing our best goal scorer in Lee. The fact that all the teams we are playing seemed to add scoring while we added another 2 way guy is a bit frustrating. Plus we gave up a first round pick for Palmieri. which is more than any of them gave up for their trades. If we can't get through the first couple of rounds that becomes a much bigger mistake.

Hopefully Palmieri shows up in the playoffs and Carter, Hall, Reilly, etc... stink. As of right now though it looks like a huge miss by Lou.

Just a reminder that JGP began his Islander career with a couple of goals..........and then disappeared for the next 10 games or so until Covid shut down the regular season. He was starting to look like a bust until he re-emerged in the playoffs in August. So I am still hoping that something similar happens with Palmieri. Also, it's nice that Hall has found a home in Boston, but it's like his 5th team, and that, by itself, raises some questions.

I think not getting Hall was a mistake we needing more scoring and he could provide that.

Schneider hustling into his gear to sit on the bench for the 3rd means this wasn't a planned Varlamov pull.

Varlamov didn't dress for the April 27 game in WSH and said two days later that he'd had a small knee issue. Could be something similar now. No reason to take any chances
.

That from Staple. 'Could be similar now' would make this a recurring knee issue and rather concerning heading into the playoffs. Something to watch

I wanted Hall but was okay with getting Palmieri since he brought a crease presence we sorely miss with Anders gone. That said, we've all acknowledged that the thing this team needed most was a top line winger which Hall is and Palmieri is certainly not. It's hard to fathom that Zajac was supposedly the tipping point in our decision.
Still, no one can call any of these trades a success or bust until the playoffs end.

I would say the entire team was a bust after we acquired him. The team as a whole was crapping the bed. Then we took the covid break and Pelech came back and we had a good run in the bubble. Pretty much the exact, same, thing this year minus we’re not getting that break this season. Team hasn’t been the same since the TDL.

I think it’s easy to say that now. I for one also wanted Palmieri but it doesn’t look like that was the right move. Trotz hasn’t been able to find the right line combinations and imo he still hasn’t. That game last night didn’t change my mind about that. We were pretty much inept in the first and played a decent second and third far from a great performance imo. We’re trying to eek anything positive out of palmieri’s performance at this point imo. When people say he played incredible I see a decent game. I’m just hoping we see something different from the team as a whole along with him. I think we may 🤞

I would agree with this. Maybe we can introduce Covid-21 and close down the League until Lee is healthy?

Hey if the lightning can let Kucherov sit out the entire regular season and reinstate him for game one of the playoffs anything is possible in the NHL.

Hall had a full no move clause and wanted to go to Boston before the season but the money didn't work also Boston has the space to resign him. He was only going to Boston all along

Listen Lou (frank)ed up. Hall was the right puck and he would have come here for less than Boston gave The Sabres. It’s on Hockey Buzz.

'Supposedly' the Isles were close to landing him but ultimately sided with Palmieri when Zajac was thrown in. Lou felt he was a better fit.
As I said, we can't draw conclusions on who got the better deal until one or both teams are eliminated.

I guess hall waived for here but Buffalo thought they could get more and we went after Palmieri instead according to insiders but it's water under the bridge

Yeah, doesn't really matter. I preferred Hall but was very happy we landed Palmieri. That said, he's been a bit of a disappointment thus far but we got him for the playoffs, so hopefully he shows up

Yep both staple and I believe Friedman said he would’ve came here. With that said Palmieri is playing for a contract next season and he’s a MUCH better player then we’ve seen. I think (hope) we’ll see a different player in the playoffs.

This just isn't true.. He was willing to go to the Islanders and they had a trade in place for the same picks that got us Palmieri and Zajak. We chose to do the other trade.

The bottom line is you have to play a certain way in the playoffs to win. The islanders especially have to play a certain way. That is defense first hockey and Palmieri is certainly a better player in the D-zone. So hopefully Trotz and Lou are right and this team shuts everyone down in the playoffs and goes on a deep run.

Palmieri in for MDC or Leo would have been a major upgrade... but once Lee got hurt it makes a huge difference.

They haven't announced it. It sounds like it will be a messed up schedule. 3 divisions will probably start the playoffs while the North will still be playig the regular season.
