He's been terrible this year and he was the SECOND overall pick. That's probably why. I don't think Andreoff was the second overall pick. If he was just a typical 4th liner making 850K people probably wouldn't care so much although that -30 stat is certainly an eyesore.

Yeah but the last time Patrick played an NHL game before January 13th 2013 was April 6th 2019. There was no preseason. Most players couldn’t find a replace to skate due to skating rinks being closed due to Covid.

(frank) the draft position. That's the past. If he was a stud he would not have been signed for 850k.

Now lets judge him according to present reality: a 850k guy playing on a 1 year deal.

Personally, it’s been the same lame jokes repeated for days now. I don’t know how happy some of these guys could possibly be with their lives by harping on the same subject over and over, day after day on this site.

He’s a -30. That’s not even the worst in the league right now. That’s not even the worst I’ve ever seen in a Flyers uniform.

It's been very frustrating watching him play this year along with many others on the team. And again, I think a lot of it is due to him being the second overall pick. I have nothing personal against the kid, but he has looked abysmal most nights. If I had to analyze it myself in all honesty I'd say that the kid is gun shy based on what he went through last year. His fear of getting bonked on the head again is keeping him from being aggressive and going to the dirty areas that a player like him needs to go to. Will he ever be able to play that way again....who knows? My guess is that they bring him back for one more year on a similar contract and if he shyts the bed again he will be moved on.

Unfortunately it doesn't work that way. I'm not saying that it's wrong or right, but in general players are held accountable in relation to their draft position and it doesn't go away. They are always compared to others that were drafted around them in their draft year. That's just the way it is.

His disappointing career has already been internalized with his salary. If you expected more, pay him more. The $ he frees up with his low salary has been devoted to other guys who contribute points. Remember that.

Here is a dazzling stat for you. Do you know where NP ranks in terms of cost/point? In the top 20% of the NHL players this season. (he ranks 151 out of 797). He ranks 3rd in the Flyers, after Farabee and NAK. And do you know how he ranks in terms of cost per minute? 2nd lowest.

It may be hard for you to accept, but all indications are he did not underperform his expectations this year.

EDIT: meaning he costs less per point produced than 646 of 797 players.

So let me ask you a couple things. Knowing what you know he’s been through and he being a former second overall pick, what were you expecting from him this season and can you blame him for being gun shy? It’s been a disappointing all around year but can you blame a 22 year old kid for being human?

You're making it all about the contract versus his performance and that's a bit short sighted. I think if you went and interviewed NP right now he would tell you that he underperformed this year in comparison to expectations. The fact is that the Flyers gave him a contract(a prove it contract) that they hoped that he would outperform. He hasn't proven his worth in the league yet and he also has injury issues that are worrisome. That's why he was given this relatively paltry contract. You can slice it any way you want to, but the fact is that he had a terribly disappointing season and he would admit that if he's being honest with himself. I mean, they gave him PP time and many nights he was given 3rd liner minutes versus 4th liner minutes. He was given every opportunity to outperform that contract and he didn't do it. The best he can hope for is a one year deal at the same amount for next, but perhaps he wants a change of scenery. I dunno.......

No, I don't blame him. But what would worry me if I was team management is the fact that he seemed to regress as the season went on. I think most anyone would be gun shy at first having gone through what he apparently went through, but the concerning fact to me personally is the fact that he didn't make progress throughout the season. It's a business and they have to be worried that he may not be able to play the way that he needs to play to be an effective hockey player at the NHL level. To answer your question, I was expecting him to make progress as the season went on and he became more comfortable with things again. The disturbing thing is the fact that he seemed to regress as the season moved along.

In 14 games Allison came in and nearly matched Patrick’s point total. 2 points off.

Patrick is only 93 points behind McDavid. 🤣

OK, I think everything you’re saying is fair but let’s say Patrick had cancer. Nothing was wrong with his brain, which something was wrong with Patrick’s brain for a very long time but let’s say he had cancer. Would you be more sympathetic because he had cancer last season but had the same results today?

It seems to me that you are conflating 'hope' and expectation, and essentially saying that he underperformed your hope of overperforming.

How come so many of your posts occur after midnight? Are you an insomniac? Work on the night shift?

I do work nights. Been thinkin about moving my schedule back to days, but I dunno. I kinda like it. I found daylight to be overrated since college, I suppose.

Since I’m no longer with the ex, I can pull this off again. As long as I carve out time for the kid, I figure why not? That’s why I just woke up now. Gotta pick her up soon.

The only issue is I tend to drift between women instead of seeing people exclusively, but to be fair, I’m at a time of my life that I’m finding it enjoyable. I suppose when I’m ready to settle, I’ll go back. I make my own hours, so whatever.
