maybe I am...he can't be on this roster next year.
- matman31

Unless you are willing to pay a serious price he almost certainly can't NOT be on the roster next year. Sorry.

I’d bill is correct. And they ask for a sweetener I wonder if we sweeten enough they would go with jake. But was not considering the actual cost as bill pointed out. Salary lower than cap hit.

I just can't anymore with him...he is the embodiment of everything that is wrong with this team...lazy, makes dumb decisions with the puck, not the example I want the kids to see as they adjust to the NHL.

Jake isnt the player he once was. There's no denying that. The problem is that his contract is such that he is going nowhere. For a while.

If I thought anyone would even consider this, I would have proposed it. Problem is, other teams can see what he brings (and doesn't bring) to the table. If Fletch could do that, it would have to be for a shorter term deal...just don't see that happening.

Did I read the calculator right? 1.8m for the next 6 years if we buyout?

- matman31

So I did not read it right...next year is ok, but following year is an 8.8 mil cap hit...because of the signing bonus.

Ugh, just want this guy gone!

"Nolan Patrick has been stuck on nine points for the season since April 27 and at four goals since March 27."

This just speaks volumes as to the state of this kids hockey life right now. Such a missed opportunity. I think he needs a fresh start somewhere else. I wonder what the Jets would give up for him?

Next year the cap hit would be 2.555, the year after would be 8.805, the year after 2.555, then three years at 1.805.

Steve Yzerman got a couple second round picks for Brett Connolly, who was taken 6th overall, those are my expectations. Not sure if you think that's value or not, personally, I do.

I also think we should trade Giroux to the Senators, who appear to have a brighter future than we do, for say Pinto, a 1st round pick and a second round pick.

While I'm at it, I think we should also trade Couturier to Montreal for a highend prospect, a 1st round pick and a 2nd round pick.

Plus, eat half of Voracek's salary and send him packing as well!!! #rebuild

You think Giroux would waive his NMC?

From last blob:

Is he going to earn his spot? We saw what he could do this year, which was nowhere near an effective 3C. There’s no rush to get rid of him, he has next to no trade value. Let’s see what he can do in Lehigh valley though, that is what’s fair for all parties.
- Just5

This seems like an excellent perspective to me. Take him away from the relentless scrutiny and expectations and let him just be and rediscover his game without thinking of the big picture. My only caution would be the waivers he would have to go through. I would sign him for a longer term or higher AAV to act as a waiver claim deterrent.

Yes. Will tell you now that I think the Flyers will lose JVR. While Seattle (who has to get to the cap floor) will try to entice the Flyers to sweeten the pot under the premise of "we're not just going to help you with your cap", their own team-building needs will ultimately come first. Here's why:

1) JVR is coming off a solid season although the goals dried up after a torrid start (he still collected a healthy number of assists). Played a pretty good two-way game this year, unlike a lot of Flyers forwards. At 32, he's not in his prime years anymore but he isn't ancient, either. I have no idea why he spent a significant chunk of this year on PP2 except that Therrien/Vigneault were frequently looking for a RH shot netfront.

2) JVR's contract has only two seasons left to run. The real-dollar cost in the final year ($4 million base, $1 million signing bonus installment on July 1, 2022) is two million dollars less than his cap hit, which is appealing when spending to at least the require cap floor.

3) He's a rock solid citizen; a team spokesman, devoted family man, not an enemy in the world. He'd fit in with any locker room.

Very interesting. The analytics heavy approach (I read yesterday that one of the reasons Ron Francis got his job was because his analytics as a GM wwere the best according to Alexandra Mandrycky!) at Seattle may unearth hidden value in him.

This is the best I have ever seen JVR play. He has made some nifty passes this year, a part of his game I did not know he had. The passes for the Giroux goals against Pens were beauts. He has back-checked (almost caught up to Sheary in the last game during OT).

He also seems like an intelligent guy. He might go into management/coaching/ after he is done, would be my guess, given his role in the NHLPA.

Whoa

Couturier has some value, sure. But you’re out to lunch on those other two. Giroux is 33 and has one year left on his deal. Not a chance you get anything close to that package from Ottawa. And Patrick gets you a mid-round pick. I doubt he’s even valuable enough to use as a sweetener to convince a rebuilding team to take JVR or Hayes off your hands

How about trying to work a trade for Wheeler? Similar numbers and term, they get a younger player, we get some badly needed size

Disagree on Giroux. Giroux's value is likely highest at the deadline next year. Expiring contract and all that. Assuming he is willing to waive his NMC to go to a contender you might get a decent haul. At that point, the Flyers would be likely to eat a bunch of the remaining money which would make him all the more attractive. The key will always be his willingness to waive though.

If the Flyers don’t sweeten the pot what would the worst case be? Who would they take that would hurt the most?

It will be very nice to send the Flyers 2020-21 season to its final resting place.
