Here’s what Custance wrote as far as an Eichel trade could go:
*there were a number of other proposed offers that the NHL Execs he spoke with shot down
This is the ONE that got approval:
Sabres send Jack Eichel to the Kings for Quinton Byfield, Alex Turcotte, Adrian Kempe, 2022 first-round pick, 2023 first-round pick, 2022 second-round pick.— @RangerRob13
(Custance
Now we’re talking. Rob Blake clearing out the system to win again before Anze Kopitar and Drew Doughty get too old.
Exec:
“That does seem like fantasy hockey, but in a blowup rebuild, that’s what Buffalo would have to be saying yes to. With Turcotte and Byfield, you’re looking at your centers as Dylan Cozens, Byfield and Turcotte down the middle. There’s a lot to be excited for, but boy oh boy, would the fan base have to be patient. If it’s a blowup rebuild, you’d almost have to send out the Rangers letter to Sabres fans and admit it’s happening. That’s enough to entice you if you’re Buffalo, but only if you have ownership’s permission on the blowup. I think the Kings would say no. It’s too much for the Kings. But I think there’s a deal in there for the Kings. Kopitar and Eichel for a few years and then you have a Kopitar replacement. It’s just a little rich for L.A. today.”
I agree it’s a bit much
So let them:
-keep the 2nd
-keep Kempe so they don’t lose any skaters off their roster
-add a Cap dump like Quick since he’s the only high price guy (5.8mil for 2yrs) without an NTC,
and Petersen has taken over as the starter anyways
That would leave:
-LA gets Eichel & gets rid of a Cap dump
-Sabres get Byfield, Turcotte, two 1sts & the cap dump in Quick
I think that’s in the ballpark of reasonability
