It’s odd that the Borgstrom news has broken but still no mention of cap hit. Usually when we are a situation like this there are multiple signings.
Could Shalunov finally be on his way back to North America? |

Supposedly for 2 years. That will make him 25 upon expiration and still a RFA.

It just means Stasiu probably overpaid again.
And every time I hear/read any mention of the "White Whale" Maxim Shalunov, all I can think of is...

Thanks all for the shout outs and for your readership! Very much appreciated.
I'm a Hawks fan as much as you are so just being able to talk about our favorite team (the good and the bad) is just fun.
Heads up that starting this weekend, the blog frequency will go down to about 3 times per week rather than daily now that the season is over.
Some weeks may naturally pick up a bit around peak times like the draft, free agency period, and hopefully prospects camp.
Either way, I have a growing list of offseason blog topics already lined up but just need some rest after that frenetic pace of the compacted schedule! |

Well we know Pius Suter was only a centre under duress and that the Swiss miss Kurashev has to be on the wing as he floats away from contact, so there is an opportunity down the middle.
I do not see the coach or GM in any way impacted or in fear for their jobs.
What probably DOES lay pressure on them? EMPTY SEATS.
I have no way of making any determination on how the last year or so has affected the season ticket holders in terms of their wallets, and the old Cup days being a memory, but it was really good publicity that so many youngsters scored, that the deadline deals brought even MORE youth, and that holding the line on paying Crawford sorta worked out...
I just see a team that doesn't defend well.
I don't see the goaltending position as one where the guys playing there will take quantitative jumps in their abilities.
The young defenseman revolving door was fun, and necessary to get the prospect group there to focus on how they improve to be NHLers.
But, let's get back to that poor defense area:
I am not sure they are willing to add a marquee UFA defenseman.
BUT if I was in charge, the minute the Ottawa Brady Thachuk is a RFA, I throw money at him, lots of it.
I just feel a big dominant scorer with some nasty is something you don't have and to me if it impacts the $ they will have to throw at Suter, Kubalik in a year, and Dach and then there is Strome, well their $ is not as well spent if you don't have a nasty dominant wing out there. - wiz1901
It was pretty expensive to go when they were a bubble team and then kind of bad before the pandemic. Not really worth the price of admission.
$50 to get a seat in the 300s and see Patrick Kane in the twilight of his prime may be worth going to a game or two.
With the size and clarity on TVs today - if the NHL would offer something other than the same camera angle they've been using the last 100 years it really makes going to the stadium pretty irrelevant.
Especially with the quality of fans actually at the games. A lot of bozos getting up during the run of play, no enforcement from the ushers in terms of letting go back to their seats during the run of play and jabronis screaming shoot every time the puck is on someones blade and hit em every time they are on d.
The whole experience isn't very good at this point. And the lack of replays - even with the ginormous screen - is pretty inexcusable. Plus the anthem thing is just kind of old at this point. It was nostalgic when people first came back but now its just a thing you do like stopping at portillos if you're in from out of town. |

I think empty seats in 2021/22 will be assumed and downplayed next season for the Hawks. They have deep pockets. However I think small market low revenue teams may be more effected. So possibly their self imposed budget is tighter, thereby making some players available due to cost cutting moves. Instead of being at the cap ceiling they could be well below it (more than this year). - -Doh-
I think most sporting events - at least to start - are going to be pretty full. There will be 18-30,000 people looking to go ham at every opportunity after being locked up for over a year. |

McDavid's deal has 5 more years. Toews, Kane, Keith and The Cat have two years left. Seabs has three, but he'll be on LTIR and isn't relevant.
So.......no. |

They won't be able to afford him, and will have to trade him for Saad. |

New blog! A look at notes left in Blackhawks player stalls as they clean out for the summer.
Plus, an early look at representation at the World Championships and prospect signings.
