If I were Treliving, I would probably approach JG's agent in the offseason and see where he his at on signing a extension possibly to know if he wants to stay or not.

Agree.
Then go after Eichel out of Buffalo. Trade whoever it takes to get Johnny a true #1 center.
Eichel damaged goods right now and has a lot to prove.
Flames could ice the American line of Eichel between Johnny and Chucky.

Time to poop or get off the pot. Do the Flames rebuild, retool, or tweak. These final games should help make that final decision and which direction to go with Treliving.

Fire tre, promote Sutts, hire Torts is my prediction. Get rid of the soft and retool on the fly adding truculence again.

I don’t think Treliving will be fired, he probably has another year to get things sorted out.

I think there needs to be a come to Jesus amongst the flames brass of is any part of this team built to make a playoff run. I worry with Trevling because hes had his time with the team, he will believe hes 1-2 moves away from that. I think this year really brought a lot more question marks as to who is the core to build around. Normally Matt was the one you can count on to show effort even in the face of defeat, but something changed this year. Beyond Markstrom, I am not sure I would take anyone off the table. I think when it comes to Guadreau and Monohan, the only thing worse than having them is having them for the remainder of this season, is to have them for the remainder +1 day as it just retreads the same tires.

Treliving’s not getting fired this year. Ownership will wait until they only have to pay him for one year of sitting. The one thing about Brad is he’s not afraid to pull the trigger on big trades, you got to admire that. His downfall has been over valuing the roster, it’s not there yet, he needs to sit down with his management group and come up with a realistic plan. No more aging ufa’s we need more speed injected into our lineup, more enthusiasm, that’s what the young guys bring. Next year we should see Pelletier (sp) and hopefully the year after is Zary.
Would like to see them pick the bpa at the draft but hopefully he’s bigger than 5’-10”

Why not Zary? He handled himself in his time in the AHL quite well. You may be surprised come training camp.

What big trades has he done? Dougie had to go as it was reported there was a rift in the locker room between him and everyone. Other than that it looks like a bunch of nothingburgers and losses.

Lazar acquired for Jokipakka and Formenton
Elliott acquired for Kyrou and Nordgren
Parsons and Koumontzis for Hudler
Dougie acquired for Shenshyn, Lauzon, and Forsbacka-Karlsson
Lindholm and Hanifin for Fox, Hamilton, Ferland
Neal for Lucic
Rittich for a 3rd
Bennett and a 6th for Heineman and a 2nd.

Which of these is a big trade? And are any surefire wins? Most are losses or close to equal, and none are "big"

We might actually have a shot at Eichel. Cannot see Buffalo sending him to the Rags, too close. Trading him to LA would make him happy. Sending him to Calgary would be a bit of an FU. I think he is ours.

That would be going back decades for the flames. Sutter was an awful Gm. And adding Torts would be like the Keenan years.

How are the flames going to accomplish that? What are they going to offer for Eichel?

I think sending him to Calgary would be great. But Chuckie would have to be part of the package back. He has to be qualified at 9M after next season. No way the Flames will pay that kind of money to a winger who has not produced. Sabres could use his toughness. Probably would want a C like Zary as well.

He did have 77 points at 22...had a tough season (so did Eichel)

Tkachuk and a first seems fair

Eichel vs. McDavid would be a good storyline too

This team's going to keep spinning its wheels until they find a decent starting goaltender that can give a consistent effort every night.

He was already saving his job by telling the media that the Flames are "underperforming", that's the snake oil he's going to sell to the owners.

I'd give Buffalo Monahan, Backlund, & a 1st for Eichel.

And when Smith craps the bed in the first round so will the Oilers.

I would do that on the condition we can get Gaudreau signed long term July 1st because otherwise we’re still spinning our tires. After that as much as I love tkachuck I think you would have to seriously consider that deal, heck I may even be willing to add a second rounder. Only thing that would be a dealbreaker for me is that the pick would have to be this years. Even with eichel in the fold I have doubts that we’re a playoff team and we’d look pretty stupid if we wound up trading tkachuck and Wright/bedard for eichel

Also only way Buffalo considers this is if the sabres are looking for a player to make an impact right away, if they’re looking for futures to do their 69th rebuild rangers and LA are among other teams that have us beat

The new NHL is all about north-south hockey with speedy forwards who activate their wheels in the neutral zone and crash the net (McDavid, Mackinnon, Matthews, etc.). Calgary is built around players slowing down the tempo and trying to dangle their way around the blueline looking for the fancy pass (JH, Mony, Tkachuk, etc.).

Even if the Flames add Eichel, this team is just not built the right way to seriously compete in this league.

IDK, the caps and blues do not seem to fit into your hypothesis. Things ebb and flow. But one thing that wins championships is a punishing D. Which Calgary lacks.

Even so it would be a step in the right direction. Adding a true #1 center is a must,we have to stop pretending that we already have one.
