Trading a first at this point is a step backwards. Our prospect pool is one of the worse in the league. This years pick shouLd be a top 10 pick which should net us a good player. That was probably one of Treliving’s biggest mistakes was over valuing where this team was.

Calm down.. I said in hindsight, prior to this season. And top players around our likely draft position, all C's.... we still need a good RW to be harder to coach against.

I think people underappreciate the fact that divisions were small, and the top guys learned their opponents inside out, so it'll be interesting to see which top scoring leaders can keep it up, as things normalize. It's too bad this season put a nail in the coffin, for the fact CGY doesn't have enough HP to compete with the top teams.

For a true #1 center? Yes in a heartbeat.
- K-man25

Eichel makes 10 million per so any trade like that would have to include Mony, JG or both to make the cap work!

The first 3/4 of the season that Peters came in, when they finished first in the West, they were unstoppable. After the all-star break of that year, they have not been the same team. They have been in a downward spiral. Whatever was said at the players-only meeting was the icing on the cake.

Since they have more or less been eliminated, JG has been lights out. I appreciate that he is at least trying to get the team a better return for when he inevitably gets traded.

- DuranDuran

I’m not so sure they trade him. If they can bring in a true #1 center to play with him he could be unstoppable.

There isn’t a player on the roster I’d keep if getting Eichel was a possibility.

Things Id like to see from the Flames down the stretch...
Play Lucic 25 minutes a night, and on 1st PP. Pad his stats, and make him look like an under-rated difference maker/leader the Kraken should take on for a measly mid round pick in expansion...
Load up one line Chucky/Money/Johnny to showcase 1 or 2 of these guys for a big shakeup trade that will change the room and/or get us some very promising futures...
Lose every game. Slide down the standings as far as possible and hope and pray that Guenther has slid far enough for the Flames to snag what could be the best forward in the draft...

I feel like year after year we clamor to see kids play and we get more of the same. Nordstrom and Nesterov being in the lineup over Ruzicka and Valimaki is terrible.

I hate to say atodaso but I (frank)in atodaso. Dutter won’t play the kids.

Totally! This kind of thinking drives me crazy. Flames don’t even know how to tank properly........ or maybe they do. Regardless, perfect time to see what we have in our prospects.

I am thinking Tre has decided to sacrifice giving the prospects playing time so they fly under the radar of the Kraken. Leaving Gio, Ryan, and dare I say Lucic as the fodder.

There's more to it than that...

Young players are going to be trying hard to make an impression

Middle tier players, will play hard to make an impression, + worse lottery odds benefit them the most

Then top line players.. it's in their hands. They get the most ice time, they have security, so the final 4 games depends on them

Just looked at our projected lineup and this dialogue pretty much sums it up

Fans: At least now our older players can sit and we can get a look at some prospects

Sutter: Best I can do is Nordstrom on the 2nd line and Nestorov on the second pairing

Dear lord, it was hilarious watching the broadcast last night. Francis sitting there saying the Flames should tank and Stajan just itching to slap him. They're both wrong... if you ain't first, you're last. Whether the Flames pick 9th or 12th, it won't really make much of a difference. Outside the top 2-3 guys, it's a bit of a crapshoot.

When Bedard and Wright are on the table... lose em all.

Hell, it wouldn't matter if we finished last, the Oilers would still win the lottery.

Parts of it - saw 0 goals... so none of the good parts. Mostly just 2 apathetic teams skating in circles.

Watching that was like somewhere between second hand embarrassment and nails on a chalk board. Of course losing the rest of the games and having a higher draft pick is what most fans want after losing out on the playoffs but for a reporter to actually go and say that on the air is so unprofessional that I thought I was watching some hockeybuzz podcast with James tanner. Hard to believe a network that employs bieksa also puts up with this guy.

Yeah, I just don't think it matters one iota if the Flames move from 9 to 12 or from 9 to 8. If we lost a lottery ball, then sure, I'd be frustrated, but unless you pick 1-3, it doesn't usually matter all that much beyond that.

Don’t agree. The draft rankings are so different that if you’ve done your homework properly picking 8th instead of 12th could be huge.
I’m hoping we get the lowest pick possible.

I’m sure Sutter will have an answer for Francis. Every time he asks Sutter a question he gets a short, blunt, snidely answer. It’s hilarious!

I don’t agree but that’s a fair opinion, in this draft it might not even matter if you’re picking 1-3.

From what I’ve researched there seems to be a top tier of about 8 players followed by a tier of 4 or 5. If you’re at 9 you have a decent chance of collecting one of the top 8 if someone goes a little off the board (ie Buffalo taking Quinn over Rossi/perfetti last year). Also being lower gives you more control over getting the player you want vs getting whoever the guys ahead of you pick, something that is a good thing to have in any draft.

True, I will gladly settle for a couple more years of mediocrity in the name of going for it if it means watching sutter single handedly destroy Francis’ career.
