Exactly. Look I don't like Thornton and I don't like Simmonds. If they show up when it counts in the playoffs, then it's shut-your-stupid-piehole-Monkeypunk time. That's my wife's favourite time, for what it's worth.
I think Staal is washed up, but maybe he has it in him for another playoff run. I guess we'll see. - Monkeypunk

He's OK because the 5 games isn't enough. I liked what I saw, as I'm sure we all did, but it's a really small sample size because of the quarantine and the injury, so at this point it looks like a successful trade, but they did give up a 1st and a 4th, which is a hefty price. Just trying to be objective. - Monkeypunk
Fair enough - but I would argue "GOOD" with an asterisk would be a better grade. Especially considering that 1st is going to be 32nd overall, so maybe not such a hefty price? |

To be fair, we don't know what Thornton or Simmonds will bring in the playoffs.. Heck last seasons play in round Spezza got into a scrap.. Maybe Jumbo Joe nets us a hat trick and Simmonds gets some PP points? |

Well it would be fitting since if the Leafs win the cup this year there will also be an asterisk next to their win. |

Foligno had 4 assists playing with 2 players in the top 10 in scoring in the NHL. And he just played 5 games.
He cost a first round pick.
Until we see what he brings to the table in the playoffs, "OK" sounds about right to me. - Scabeh
Can you name another W who has been a point per game clip on that line? Not to mention providing a significant PK as well as defensive upgrade.
The 1st round pick is a very, very low pick and the player nabbed in the draft would likely not be in this lineup for many years.
"GOOD*" sounds about right to me. |

Why is Foligno graded "OK"? Pretty much a point per game player since joining the team and team is 4W 1OTL with him in the lineup. That OTL loss? He played only 9 mins before getting injured.
Unless the injury is the reason why the trade has been downgraded?
Edit: I'd also grade the Mantha trade as okay. Caps didn't get worse and they landed a guy with term. You could argue they could have re-signed Vrana for less, but I dunno...
Not terrible but maybe a wash for Wash? - mjones242
I love the Mantha trade! We could use a couple more of those. ๐ |

It's looking good for you guys so far.
And all them picks too!
This being said, Mantha will do great in Washington as well imo.

Foligno has been just, ok, at least in my eyes. Heโs improved the depth, thatโs about it so far. Letโs see if he can get to good, but he needs to make an impact, not just be another guy. |

I think they could pick as low as 25th if they lose in the 1st round? (depending on division winners points totals)
I could be wrong though! |

DET gets an A+ in that trade as it stands now.

Exactly. To pronounce their presence a success, they just need to contribute - not even on the scoresheet. Do what they do right. Work and win battles. Be in the right places. They have "veteran savvy". Use it. Honestly, it's what Corey Perry brings to the table. He may not have the same skills he used to, but he is an all-day a-hole, and he just gets better at it with time. That's a skill you CAN grow as you get older. You don't want to be a kid on Perry's lawn. Thornton and Simmonds need some of that.
I'd love to see Simmonds get hitting. We don't need fights, but we need a presence. Maybe throw a solid hit on an Anderson and set a tone about who he should be messing with. Or get in and throw some hits into Weber or Edmundson and let them know he's there to play. That would be Simmonds being Simmonds. |

I don't think any fan or sports person is dumb enough to predict a sweep.
(frank), the Sens could maybe even squeak out a win against any to the top 5. |

Mantha will likely score more goals when Ovechkin returns because he'll be getting better matchups. But I grew tired of waiting for Mantha to realize his potential. He was never going to show it in Detroit IMO. I think he'll do well in Washington. I love watching Vrana play and had no idea he was this good. ๐ |
