Surely the Sabres will get 5 premium pieces for Jorts Jack. A treasure trove of assets.

Ferraro had a good take the other day on how difficult it actually is to trade Eichel when you think about it. How are you going to get value back? It's hard to think of realistic scenario.

If the Sabres keep going like this, they have an outside shot of entering into the conversation of being the most Leafy team in the NHL. To tank, miss McDavid, (frank) up Eichel, and then have to trade him is totally Leafed out. If they can follow this era up with a couple more decades of futility they could outLeaf the Leafs.

It's like when it became realistic to actually talk about Ovi breaking Gretzky's goal record. It used to be unthinkable, but it's an actual conversation. Buffalo and becoming the Leafiest team is not impossible now.

Right now Vrana and Mantha are pretty equivalent. When Vrana was on Washington he was getting 14 minutes a game, and now he's getting 17. Mantha went from 18 minutes on Detroit to 17 on Washington. When Ovi comes back, that might go down to 14 on Washington.

It looks like Vrana is helping Detroit more than Mantha was helping Detroit or is helping Washington. Panik is a nothing-burger, but the 1st & 2nd is a fair bit extra - granted this is the year to trade picks since it's a weak draft and there's a lot of unknowns. It's almost like any extra work you did last year will pay off this year in terms of prospect scouting.

It's 12 games in to the deal, so I don't think we pronounce a victor - but it looks good for the Wings and it looks like Washington didn't know what they had is all I'm saying.

A couple quick hits:

1. Dumping Panik's salary is a bit more than a nothing burger.

2. Vrana is currently shooting at an unsustainable 25%. He's good, but he's not that good.

I think the picks are what really seem to push this trade in Detroit's favour but, as you alluded to, if you're going to trade them this is the year as there is a fog of scouting currently in place which makes assessments unreliable outside of the Top 5 (and increasingly brutal beyond the 1st round).

It'll be interesting to see how this plays out over the course of the next couple of years but it's early days yet to claim any team truly completely stole from the other.

The favourite part of my last job in government was the final step in condensing Ministry proposals onto a single slide. After all the fiscal and legal and political analysis is all put together, to go out to everybody, the last piece is a single slide that stays up for the entire discussion.

I loved working on it. How many words are too much, how big is the font, what points to include, whatever. It was totally bizarre to take some complicated piece that people had been working on for years and try to find the key few things that people needed to know to make a decision and then get it to (frank)ing fit on the page

It sure is interesting stuff.
When I was a young guy in sales, the CEO found out that I had a talent for proofreading. After a while, nothing left the office without me looking at it. Made some good extra $$ on that. You either have an eye for it or not - not sure if it's something you can learn to do...

Risk of blood clots.

Rob Ferguson
@robferguson1

On Ontario pausing AstraZeneca immediately, the risk of a blood clot (VITT) has gone to 1 in 60,000 from 1 in 100,000. "That's a significant safety signal we won't want to ignore," says Dr. Jessica Hopkins of Public Health Ontario. #onpoli

It could also be deaths from Covid after already being vaccinated. We have had three deaths in my location this past week after already being vaccinated three or four weeks ago. This lock down might go on a bit longer then we think. People who got there first shot have loosened up and got braver, are out and about more and they can still spread. Its not even a sure thing at the moment and its starting to show.

Pretty soon half the Sabres roster will be lottery picks. Eichel is damaged goods now. Good luck getting a decent return for him. What did Wayne Gretzky once call the New Jersey Devils back in the 80s? A Mickey Mouse franchise? That's what the Sabres are.

The trade was basically Vrana and a 1st for Mantha. A 2nd for taking Panik's contract. Mantha is cost controlled for the next 4 years. Vrana is an RFA who'll likely get around 5.5-6 mil AAV. I think both teams should be happy. As a Red Wings fan, I'm very happy with this trade.

He's more reasonable that that.

He wants Marner thrown in, and return Buffalo will include Okposo.

I’d proclaim myself as the undisputed Wing King if it didn’t upset anyone....no wait, I franking am the undisputed Wing King! First love of wings was in a restaurant called Gervais in Sturgeon Falls 53 franken years ago. Honey Garlic, but...in the early 70’s my folks toured the southern shore of Lake Erie and stopped in a dive in Dunkirk. They ordered Buffalo Wings which they had never heard of. They were so good, my momma asked the owner for the recipe, which the nice chef lady gave her. Simple - Deep fried wings, Durkee’s Hot Sauce, and butter to taste. My folks made them at home right away and they were fantastic. I have been eating Buffalo Wings for half a century! Anywho, my fishing crew have visited many wing joints in Buffalo and Niagara Falls area looking for the best wings. I find it incredible how simple wings are to make yet so many restaurants are poop. We normally have a wing event at our house every year celebrating various family annual milestones, and wings are on the menu by request. I usually make 5 or 6 different recipes, always including Buffalo of course, but Thai, Hot Smoked, Cajun Dry Rub, and Olive Oil Sea Salt Cracked black pepper and garlic are favs.

I love wings.
