Welcome to the 2021 Leafs vs. Habs Prediction Thread!

Fun fact: every time the Leafs have faced the Habs in a playoff series, the winner has gone on to win the Stanley Cup. Don’t frank with history!

The rules are simple: you can write as much as you want, or as little as you want. Just cut and paste the template into your on post, and fill it out.

There is no prize at the end – the purpose of this exercise is to eliminate blowhards who always show up at the end and say “I told you so” when in fact they never said anything of the sort. This is a historic record, which will be recorded in the National Library on Parliament Hill. Or at least Adam French will throw a copy of it on the lawn there.

I will ask a referee to lock the thread Thursday night at puck drop of game 1 – so please get your predictions in by then, or you are SOL.

I’ll do a Habs fan prediction template and a Leafs fan prediction template. Fans of other teams are free to pick whichever one they want.

Please do not do any trash talking within the prediction thread – save that for the daily threads.

And now, without further ado, please find below the templates - Leafs 1st, because we have home ice advantage, Habs second.

Hi, I'm gergeswillems and I'm not a Leafs or a Habs fan.

Don't consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: I love the Red Wings

Feel sorry for me because: My team sucks

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Leafs in 6

The main reason for this is: Faster skating, higher scoring team. They've learned some lessons from past playoffs. Added some needed grit. Are better defensively. Buying into Keefe's system. Auston Matthews.

The key to the Leafs winning is: Don't let Price get into their heads. At least match the Habs physical play. Capitalize on PP chances. Limit Rielly's gaffes. Don't get down on themselves when things aren't going your way.

The Habs will win if: Price steals game 1 and guys like Gallagher, Weber, Chiarot, Perry can get under Leafs stars' skin. Toffoli and Anderson step up and score. Matthews can be contained.

The Habs will not be able to stop: Matthews

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Gallagher

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Staal

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Galchenyuk

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: Dart board. Both teams will get breaks. Both teams will be screwed.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Matthews

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: Leafs getting the 1st round playoff monkey off their backs will make them a dangerous team going forward.

Leafs Roster

The Forwards

Auston Matthews: Stud

John Tavares: Need the 2nd line going

Jason Spezza: Old man can still bring it

Alexander Kerfoot: Kerplunk. Not good. Not bad.

Joe Thornton: Fire up the Geritol!

Alex Galchenyuk: I don't get the hype

Travis Boyd: He's a Canuck, right?

Adam Brooks: Kid showed he can play if needed

Nic Petan: Jobber

Zach Hyman: Catalyst. He'll grind and score. Glad he's back on top line where he belongs

Pierre Engvall: Giraffe will get some action

Nick Foligno: Here to help Leafs win ugly

Nicholas Robertson: Cannon shot. Only plays if team loses and needs a shakeup.

Kenny Agostino:

Mitchell Marner: Assist machine. Elite passer. Don't shoot. Ever.

William Nylander: Pretty boy might disappear at times. Foligno will open up some ice for him. Will score some PP goals.

Ilya Mikheyev: Hard worker. Skates fast. Creates chances but can't finish. Leafs need depth scoring. My gut says he scores a few. Law of averages.

Wayne Simmonds: All aboard the Wayne Train! Bust some skulls or sit in the press box. It's up to you Wayne. Oh and screen Price.

Stefan Noesen:

Scott Sabourin:

Joey Anderson: Does anyone remember Concrete Blonde?

The defence

Morgan Rielly: Stop being awful. Habs will be dumping the puck in your end as much as possible.

Jake Muzzin: He's alive! Stay healthy. Leafs missed you when you died against Columbus.

Justin Holl: Big guy. Underrated. Stay within your limitations. No Paul Coffey up the ice rushes please. Know your role.

TJ Brodie: Half his minutes will be dedicated to covering up for Rielly's mistakes.

Travis Dermott: He plays if BOGO can't.

Zach Bogosian: Clear front of the net. Be nasty. Use your size and don't let Habs impose their will.

Rasmus Sandin: Kid looks solid. Don't try to do too much.

Timothy Liljegren: Only plays if there's injuries

Ben Hutton: Meh

The goalies

Jack Campbell: Less winking. More saves. Kidding. My only question is if he's durable enough. He's played very well for Toronto.

Freddy Andersen: If he's playing the Leafs are likely done.

Big Save Dave Rittitch: Sieve

Habs Roster

The forwards

Nick Suzuki: Looked very good in last year's play ins. Habs will need him going.

Phillip Danault: Shutdown guy needs to shutdown Matthews. Good luck!

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: Will he play? He can't seem to get it going.

Jake Evans: Underrated

Eric Staal: Done

Tomas Tatar: Dr. Jeckyll and Mr. Hyde. Saw it plenty in Detroit.

Paul Byron: He only scores against Detroit.

Tyler Toffoli: He only scores against Vancouver. Actually he's pretty good. He needs to be VERY good for the Habs to win this series.

Josh Anderson: Needs to be Cam Neely in this series. Bull in a china shop. Score BIG goals.

Brendan Gallagher: All heart. He'll come right at you. He'll beat you in the alley if you let him. He's the lightning rod for the Habs. Campbell better keep his head up.

Corey Perry: Still an effective rat. Shell of his former self. But he can still score the odd goal.

Joel Armia: Loves to hit. He'll need to.

Cole Caufield: Deer in headlights. No 3 on 3 in playoffs. Bright future though.

Alex Belzile: Who?

Michael Frolik: He's still around?

The defence

Jeff Petry: He'll score a few. Good at getting shots through.

Shea Weber: Man Mountain isn't what he once was. If refs put whistles away then he becomes more effective.

Joel Edmundson: Played well in Blues Cup run. Strong and steady.

Brett Kulak: He's ok.

Ben Chiarot: See Weber.

Alexander Romanov: The kid looks good. First NHL playoff though. Sink or swim?

Erik Gustafsson: All O and no D.

Otto Leskinen: Who?

Jon Merrill: He's not good. He's not bad. He's Jon Merrill.

The goalies

Carey Price: Living on past reputation? Or is he still elite goalie? He needs to be Superman if the Habs are to win this series.

Jake Allen: He's not scaring anyone on the Leafs.

Cayden Primeau: Is he any good? I don't know.

LEAFS FAN PREDICTIONS

Hi, I'm winsix and I'm a Leafs fan.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: I own a pair of Davie Keon skates, a game used stick signed by Salming and a signed Tim Horton Jersey

The Leafs will win in 6 games

The main reason for this is: Superior Talent

The key to the Leafs winning is: Staying Healthy

The Habs will win if: Hell freezes over and Campbell is injured

The Habs will not be able to stop: Matthews,Marner,JT, Hyman and Nylander

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Chiarot from cross-checking Matthews, Danault from interfering and Gallagher from running the goalie

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Drouin

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Andersen

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: Terrible

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Auston Matthews

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: Leafs will dominate most of the play, a few turnovers will allow pesky Habs to steal a couple of games.

Leafs Roster

The Forwards

Auston Matthews: 5 goals 3 assists will be the best player in the series as expected

John Tavares: 2 goals 2 assists both game winners

Jason Spezza: expect him to continue to play well for this team

Alexander Kerfoot: Will be used sparingly, specialty teams, expect him to work very hard

Joe Thornton: Will continue to surprise with excellent passing skills and physical play

Alex Galchenyuk: will be used sparingly, but will be motivated

Travis Boyd: will not play

Adam Brooks:will not play

Nic Petan: will not play

Zach Hyman: 2 goals 2 assists, will be a major factor every time he is on the ice

Pierre Engvall: No expectations, kill penalties and waste time against fourth line (all 6 of them)

Nick Foligno: Big impact, will be making sure Auston and JT have space and will chip in with some offense.

Nicholas Robertson: will not play

Kenny Agostino: will not play

Mitchell Marner: 1 goal 5 assists Will be setting up Matthews as usual. WIll have at least one bad and costly give away

William Nylander: 2 goals 2 assists, Montreal will have difficulty containing him because they will be focussed on Marner and Matthews.

Ilya Mikheyev: 1 assist will have limited ice time

Wayne Simmonds:1 goal, at least one fight. Will ride shotgun on selected shifts and when Leafs have last change will take care of anyone that has handed out a cheap shot. Gordie Howe hat trick in game 4

Stefan Noesen: will not play

Scott Sabourin: will not play

Joey Anderson: will not play

The defence

Morgan Rielly: 2 assists, will step up physically but still underwhelming

Jake Muzzin: 1 goal 2 assists will be a beast in this series

Justin Holl: 1 goal 2 assists, will step up physically

TJ Brodie: lots of stick checks and correct body positioning without being overly physical

Travis Dermott: limited icetime, if there is an injury, not much impact

Zach Bogosian: Will be a physical presence in front of the Leaf net

Rasmus Sandin: Limited playing time but will be used in case of an injury

Timothy Liljegren: will not play

Ben Hutton: will not play

The goalies

Jack Campbell: will be excellent, with one bad game and one loss in overtime

Freddy Andersen: slivers in his ass

Big Save Dave Ridditch:

Habs Roster

The forwards

Nick Suzuki: 2 goals 1 assist, aggressive player that will get a calling card from Foligno

Phillip Danault: 1 assist, will get away with a ton of interference and take a few penalties. His raison d'être is to interfere, hook, hold, hold the stick, climb on Matthews' back, do anything to stop him. Couldn't score to save his life.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: 1 assist, will play in game 3, easy to push off puck, and he couldn't carry Tkachuk's jock strap Scabbie

Jake Evans: He's got less skill than the Giraffe, but he's a top gun on the Habs

Eric Staal: 1 goal, -5 on the series

Tomas Tatar: nothing he is crap

Paul Byron: Fast with no skill

Tyler Toffoli: 2 goals, and a rough ride from Bogodsian

Josh Anderson: 2 goals and a fight with Simmonds

Brendan Gallagher: 2 goals 1 assist, and a few gloves in the face from Holl, Bogodsian and Muzzin

Corey Perry: 1 goal 1 assist, will stir sh!t and pay the price

Joel Armia: nada, dirty player will try to win over his coach by slew footing Hyman

Cole Caufield: 1 goal when he plays in the third game

Alex Belzile: stinks badly

Michael Frolik: will not play

The defence

Jeff Petry: 1 goal 2 assists the best player for the Habs

Shea Weber: 1 goal 1 assist, will be a minus player in this series

Joel Edmundson: decent defender, will lay the body for sure

Brett Kulak: should be on Laval

Ben Chiarot: A Knuckle dragger for sure. WIll try to earn bounty by injuring a star player on the Leafs. He is a pylon, hope Simmonds uses him as a punching bag again .

Alexander Romanov: Surprised he is sitting, has looked ok. Maybe he gets into action after Habs lose the first two

Erik Gustafsson: will play, will not score

Otto Leskinen: Nada

Jon Merrill: he exists

The goalies

Carey Price: Will look bad and get most of the action and steal a game

Jake Allen: will be in after Price is injured in game 4 and steal a game before losing the clincher.

Cayden Primeau will not play because he stinks

Scabbie and Symba will be sad because they will have to cheer for the Leafs after the Habs are eliminated and Dead Poulet and Mr. Peanut will be looking for coupons to buy free subs.

LEAFS FAN PREDICTIONS

Hi, I'm Atomic Wedgie and I'm a Leafs fan.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: I've been a season ticket holder for about 25 years. I was Rick Vaive's paperboy. 38% of everything I own has a Leafs logo on it.

Feel sorry for me because: if I meet you at a cocktail party, I'll somehow work into the conversation that I was Rick Vaive's paperboy - usually within the first two minutes.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: the Leafs in six.

The main reason for this is: the Leafs are simply a better team, but history on both sides will put crushing pressure on the Leafs - and they will feel it deep in their gonads.

The key to the Leafs winning is: winning the first game. Gotta get those butterflies out of their stomachs, and erase the idea that Carey Price is superhuman.

The Habs will win if: Jack Campbell loses his confidence.

The Habs will not be able to stop: Tavares. I'm looking for him to score a lot of garbage goals from in front.

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Gallagher from getting under their skin.

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Caufield, because it will show that the Habs have thrown their series plan out the window (don't get me wrong, I would play him).

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Dermott, because I think there are better options. And Simmonds - please Wayne, prove me wrong on this one.

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: it will be terrible. But may not be so bad for the Leafs, because I think 5v5 we are the better team.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Tavares (because choosing Matthews is just too easy).

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: this is more about the Leafs overcoming the Leafs than the Leafs overcoming the Habs.

Leafs Roster

The Forwards

Auston Matthews: his numbers will be less than regular season. That's OK - if the Habs focus on his line, it means hero-time for JT.

John Tavares: I predict this guy will have a big series. I see him as key to victory - using his puck possession skills to score rebounds, garbage goals - all from under 12 feet.

Jason Spezza: If he sees a lot of ice time, we are in trouble. I love the guy - he led the league in pts/60, but he's simply too slow and too old to make a major contribution.

Alexander Kerfoot: So apparently he's going to be on the checking line? That scares the hell out of me. I get the feeling I'm going to be yelling at him quite a bit this series.

Joe Thornton: Good luck on the 4th line - please stay there.

Alex Galchenyuk: I'm not as enamoured with him as the average citizen of Leafs Nation. I really don't see what he provides, that can't be provided by someone else. I hope he stays in the press box.

Travis Boyd: Who?

Adam Brooks: if he makes a contribution, it will be a negative one. If we never speak about him, I'll be happy.

Nic Petan: See Brooks.

Zach Hyman: Going to set low expectations - he's not the key to the big line working. I don't mind if he gets bumped to the 3rd line, in the hopes that they try to get the 3rd line scoring.

Pierre Engvall: Will not make a contribution, but won't hurt the team. Beige.

Nick Foligno: He'd better be noticeable, because we lost a first round pick on him. Let's go with optimism: he'll provide a little jam, and get heavy use late in games. I'll be happy with him at the end of round 1.

Nicholas Robertson: wont' see the ice, nor should he. Nothing wrong with him sitting - he's not yet an NHL player.

Kenny Agostino: who?

Mitchell Marner: the haterz gonna hate unless this guy steps up to the plate and averages above .8 pts a game. I predict he will do it.

William Nylander: He will have a good series, playing against the Habs' second unit. Leafs fans will still say he sucks. Leafs fans need to shut the frank up.

Ilya Mikheyev: No goals in the series. That's out of 83 scoring opportunities. There's no point in having speed if it doesn't result in goals. I'd honestly bounce him to the fourth line.

Wayne Simmonds: Go see the regular season prediction thread - I pushed all my chips to the middle of the table on this guy. I'm now sleeping behind the hotel casino in a dumpster. I predict he will be taken out of the lineup. It hurts me to type this, but hey, this is the playoffs.

Stefan Noesen: who?

Scott Sabourin: if he plays in the playoffs, we have already lost.

Joey Anderson: who?

The defence

Morgan Rielly: I was worried that when we traded Gardiner, nobody would be able to replace him. Rielly has this year. I really hope Muzzin can protect him. I predict that he will be the one defenceman with the most gaffes in this series - for either team. But he'll put up points, so it will be overlooked. But I no longer think it's necessary to sign him to a new deal - if we can get Hamilton this offseason, buh-bye Morgan.

Jake Muzzin: Love this guy. And I will keep loving him all through round 1. The steady rock upon which our playoff hopes stand. This is my guy.

Justin Holl: As long as you keep expectations realistic for this guy, he's a great player to have. He's a 2nd paring guy at best - not our fault we need him to do more. Cut him some slack, because there will be a few goals scored on us where he simply misses his assignment in front. Count on it.

TJ Brodie: If we win this series, the difference between 2020 and 2021 will be the addition of Brodie. He's that important to this team. Just steady play, Mr. Brodie.

Travis Dermott: He will always be the guy we got with Bracco instead of Konecny. That's not fair to him, but I'm an unforgiving bastard. I think he ends up in the press box.

Zach Bogosian: I hope he is ready to play at some point - because we need his classic 3rd pairing style. If he gets in, I will have no complaints.

Rasmus Sandin: I want to see him in the games. It's time.

Timothy Liljegren: Everying I said about Sandin, except put a "do not" in the first sentence, and a "not" in the second sentence. Nothing wrong with a guy not being ready yet.

Ben Hutton: I honestly know nothing about him.

The goalies

Jack Campbell: Leafs Nation needs to believe in this guy. For some bizarre reason, I have it in my head that this guy had a major tailspin at some point this season - like, Leafs 18 wheeler off the cliff kinda slump. He went 17-3-2! Why can't he be the next Jordan Binnington? The answer: he can be the next one.

Freddy Andersen: This hurts to type, because my daughter has two Freddie jerseys. Freddie, thank you for your time in Toronto, but you are done here. Mop up duty for the playoffs, and then good luck wherever you land. It's now Campbellville.

Big Save Dave Ridditch: if his skates touch the ice, we have already lost.

HABS FAN PREDICTIONS

Hi, I'm Scabeh and I'm a Habs fan.

Consider me the biggest Habs fan on earth because: I've been watching and supporting this team since as long as I can remember.

Feel sorry for me because: I still think KK will be better than Tkachuk.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Habs in (frank)ing 7

The main reason for this is: The Habs will win game one, creating doubt in Campbell's head and roll over him.

The key to the Habs winning is: Aggressive play, borderline physical play and preventing Matthews so get more than 1 point per game. Oh and Price needs to be stellar.

The Leafs will win if: Price isn't posting numbers similar to last years playoffs

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Nick "clutch" Suzuki

The Habs will not be able to stop: Auston "pedostache" Matthews

I will laugh every time this Leafs steps on the ice: Simmonds, he's slow and useless, I said it at the beginning of the year!

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Habs steps on the ice: Eric Staal. Just put KK in already!

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: It will be a mess and a humiliation to the league. So yeah, the usual.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Carey Price

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: The Leafs should win, by all account anything less than a complete domination on their part is a failure and they should already be ashamed.

Habs Roster

The forwards

Nick Suzuki: Will get 10 points in 7 games while being the offensive dynamo of the team.

Phillip Danault:Will do his best preventing Matthews from doing damage.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: Will join this series in game 3 and be a difference maker.

Jake Evans: Will be the X factor that gives Montreal the edge vs the Leafs bottom 6.

Eric Staal: SIT DOWN

Tomas Tatar: Will have underwhelming playoffs, as usual, leading him out of Montreal in the Summer.

Paul Byron: Will surprise with Evans

Tyler Toffoli: Will score 5 goals in 7 games.

Josh Anderson: Will dominate the Leafs physically, they won't know what hit them.

Brendan Gallagher: The heart and soul of the team, will score the GWG when needed.

Corey Perry: Will there ever be someone more annoying? The Leafs won't think so.

Joel Armia: Might get benched in favor of.....

Cole Caufield: HIM!

Alex Belzile: Won't play, but if he does, he'll bring energy.

Michael Frolik: Probably dead.

The defence

Jeff Petry: Will dominate this series as the best defenseman on the ice.

Shea Weber: Will do one last slap shot, breaking his hand but also Nylander's teeth.

Joel Edmundson: Will somehow finish +15 no matter who wins.

Brett Kulak: Will surprise people by his play in the playoffs like last season.

Ben Chiarot: Will break 7 sticks in the lower back of Matthews.

Alexander Romanov: Will destroy the Leafs physically.

Erik Gustafsson: Won't play.

Otto Leskinen: Won't play.

Jon Merrill: Will play, will be meh.

The goalies

Carey Price: He'll be otherwordly and carry the team to victory.

Jake Allen: If somehow Price falters, Allen will carry the team to victory.

Cayden Primeau: Will watch Price carry this team to victory and learn from it.

Hi, I'm UsernameUnknown and I'm a Leafs fan.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: Don't. I'm not. But I'm up there.

Feel sorry for me because: I'm a Leafs fan.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Leafs in 6.

The main reason for this is: Leafs > Habs in almost every category.

The key to the Leafs winning is: Special teams and goaltending.

The Habs will win if: Price plays up to the money he's paid. And special teams.

The Habs will not be able to stop: Matthews

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Suzuki

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Staal

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Rielly? That's probably gonna be a lot of poop.

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: Atrocious for both teams, which will probably benefit the Habs, given the Leafs not good special teams.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Muzzin/Holl pairing. They can share.

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: It'll be close. But fun

Leafs Roster

The Forwards

Auston Matthews: Bless this boy. 8pts in 6 games, uncluding an OT winner.

John Tavares: 3 points.

Jason Spezza: Good boy.

Alexander Kerfoot: Meh.

Joe Thornton: Better step up.

Alex Galchenyuk: Meh.

Travis Boyd: N/A

Adam Brooks: See, Boyd, Travis

Nic Petan: See Brooks, Adam

Zach Hyman: 3 points and has himself a damn good series.

Pierre Engvall: Hopefully gets a game but probably won't.

Nick Foligno: 3 points.

Nicholas Robertson: Next year, kiddo.

Kenny Agostino: Why?

Mitchell Marner: 6 points.

William Nylander: 4 points.

Ilya Mikheyev: Vroom Vrooom. Not much else. Maybe a shortie?

Wayne Simmonds: Reaaaally better step up

Stefan Noesen: Who?

Scott Sabourin: No.

Joey Anderson: No.

Honourable mention to Nash, who apparently is dead but will still be a good addition.

The defence

Morgan Rielly: You're breaking my heart kid. Don't screw this up.

Jake Muzzin: He's aliiiiiive. At least 1 PP goal.

Justin Holl: Good player. Hoist the cup, then pack your poop. Good luck in Seattle.

TJ Brodie: Saving Riellys bacon all year. Keep it up.

Travis Dermott: Meh.

Zach Bogosian: Be useful.

Rasmus Sandin: Hopefully he finds his way in.

Timothy Liljegren: Next year.

Ben Hutton: Probably won't see action.

The goalies

Jack Campbell: A massive question mark, but I have faith. He's going to be the best goalie we've had going into the playoffs since Cujo.

Freddy Andersen: Just play like an average starter when called upon. Is that too much to ask? Ugh.

Big Save Dave Ridditch: Not a chance.

Hi, I'm Karine and I'm a Habs fan. (what is this? An AA meeting? 😉 )

Consider me the biggest Habs fan on earth because: Always rooted for the Habs even though I’m from the south shore of Quebec City. My dad introduced me to hockey in 1986 when Patrick Roy arrived on the scene and well, from that moment on, I was a Habs fan and I never wavered. Even when I lived in London, England, I watched the games live from midnight to 3 AM. Nowadays, my place is like a Montreal Canadiens’ shrine with collectibles and memorabilia in every room.

Feel sorry for me because: I’m completely addicted to hockey and watch it every night in the playoffs, no matter who’s still in. Result: sooner or later, I’ll be severely sleep deprived because of sleep.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Unfortunately, Toronto and I’ll say in 7. I would have said 6 but seems that it’s possible that fans could attend game 6 and it that happens it might give the Habs the boost they need to stay alive, only if for a little while.

The main reason for this is: Talent, there is no contest, the Leafs are the most talented team and the Habs are relying too much on defense and aging players.

The key to the Habs winning is: Playoffs Price makes an apparition and steals a couple of guys while the new pieces which were brought in to provide attack do it (Anderson, Toffoli).

The Leafs will win if: They manage to solve Carey Price early and Ducharme insists on using old players on the same line, leaving them defenseless against the Leafs’ speed.

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Brendan Gallagher. He was injured in the bubble last year and could not be his usual self. With 6 weeks off and a clean bill of health, he will be hard to contain and be a royal pain in the Leafs’ keesters.

The Habs will not be able to stop: Mitch Marner. While Auston Matthews is an impressive scorer, to me Marner is a bit of a magician who makes everyone around him better and he’s got fantastic hands.

I will laugh every time this Leafs steps on the ice: Alex Galchenyuk. He’s not slatted to start for Toronto and if they have to go to him, it will mean things are not going the way they want it to go.

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Habs steps on the ice: Eric “I have experience but nothing else and I’m barely moving on the ice” Staal. I thought he’d be a good deadline addition as a 4th line center if he was able to “shrug the Buffalo” off but a) he couldn’t and b) he was given the 3rd C role not on merit but reputation. That marked the point from which Kotkaniemi started to have more issues.

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: It’s the playoffs, expect the refs not to be whistle happy but still establish some kind of “elastic boundaries”. If they let them play a bit, Shea Weber becomes better because he’ll be able to cross-check and hook a little bit.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Mitch Marner

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: In 2013, Mar Bergevin said that the Canadiens were not a team scared to give young guys a chance, he said that about Galchenyuk and Gallagher making the team out of training camp, 8 years on, this is no longer true. Clearly, Bergevin knows very well that he could lose some big pieces of his roster this Summer and so he wants to make a push for the Cup rather than building for the future. The Canadiens’ reliance on old legs against the fast Leafs might just be fatal and an early exit might spell the end of Bergevin’s tenure. Clearly, the Canadiens are not serious Cup contenders this season and that is precisely why their young guns should be playing and gaining some experience so that once they are contenders, they’ve got mileage.

Habs Roster

The forwards

Nick Suzuki: Finished the year on a good run and will need to carry on if the Habs are to have a chance.

Phillip Danault: He’ll finally be reunited with his usual wingers and while they’ll be tasked with handling Matthews and Marner, the Habs won’t win unless they also contribute some offense.

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: Ducharme called him a screwed nail that he kept pounding at because he had no time to practice and straighten him. He’s going to be a healthy scratch in game 1. Scratch Staal, give him some quality wingers and watch him improve.

Jake Evans: Will be extremely important in the games in Toronto, Ducharme won’t have the last change and the Canadiens will need him and his linemates to help countering Matthews and Marner since they’ll be able to avoid the Danault line.

Eric Staal: Bergevin traded for Minnesota Staal but he got the Buffalo version. Still, he’s been used as if he was still the Minnesota Staal. Can’t win faceoffs, can’t skate but can get into the line-up over KK… unreal.

Tomas Tatar: tough year for Tatar, now that he’s healthy and only has these playoffs left before he can test the market to get a new deal, expect him to be highly motivated and have a big impact on the effectiveness of the Habs’ 1st line.

Paul Byron: Waived 4 times, bounced around the line-up from top to bottom, it was a year of uncertainty for the assistant captain. He now appears to have found his groove alongside Evans and Lehkonen and hopefully, he’ll be great on the penalty kill and use his speed to get some shorthanded chances.

Tyler Toffoli: great year for Bergevin’s best new signing of the off-season, his 28 goals in a 56-game season project to 41 in a normal 82 game calendar. That production is over what was expected from him and he’ll be heavily relied on to score.

Josh Anderson: Speed, skill, grit and hands, he has it all and will have to use it all just like he did in the 2019 playoffs when he was a member of the Blue Jackets and they swept the heavily favoured Lightning. This is just like that, so whatever you do Josh, do it again. As for you Ducharme, put the man up in the line-up and not on the 4th line with a couple or slow-motion players for crying out loud.

Brendan Gallagher: The heart and soul of the team. His 6 weeks off caused by injury came at the worst time and meant that the Canadiens stumbled in the playoffs by the back door instead of earning it with wins. Now back, he will have to be able to get the motivate his team and get under the Leafs’ skin. The Habs need the goal scoring Gally who makes opponent go crazy by flashing them a huge satisfied smile.

Corey Perry: Not what he was anymore but makes up for lack of speed with hockey smarts. He has adjusted to his own age and knows how to make himself useful in front of the net, Ducharme would be smart to use him at will on the PP and to rid him of the ineffective Staal.

Joel Armia: The Canadiens need goals, he rarely finishes and while he has a big body, he doesn’t hit as much as he should. He finished the year with 86 hits, only one more than Arturri Lehkonen. I’d like to see him scratched to make room for Caufield on Suzuki’s wing.
Arturri Lehkonen: He’s a Finn with no finish but he’s got a lot of energy and dedication. Whatever you ask him to do, he will do it. Expect him to play a physical game and try to inflict pain on the Leafs’ stars. Alongside Evans and Byron, he could be a key piece in this series if he manages to get to Matthews and Marner.

Cole Caufield: 4 goals in 10 games with the Canadiens since joining them out of Wisconsin, the coach thinks he needs to watch some playoffs games before he’s thrown into the action… What does he think Caufield has done since Saturday if not watching intense playoff action? This team’s problem over the last 20+ year has been scoring and this is a goal scorer. Not using him makes about as much sense as not using a secret weapon in a World War.

Alex Belzile: Hard worker but shouldn’t see any action unless things go very wrong

Michael Frolik: Didn’t play much this season, won’t play in the playoffs.

The defence

Jeff Petry: will need to shoulder most of the load, Weber is no longer the Habs’ 1st d-man, that’s now Petry and they need him to play as such. He’s great as getting puck through traffic and on net and against an inexperienced goaltender, he’s got to unleash those shots.

Shea Weber: Needs to be used less, no more first pairing time and if they want him to be efficient on the PP it wouldn’t hurt to give him less shorthanded time. Cannot be used in all occasions anymore, those days are gone.

Joel Edmundson: Petry’s partner for much of the year and should remain by his time. He played well in the Blues’ cup run and he needs to lead the way with that relevant experience. You know, relevance that isn’t from 20 years ago and doing the things he did then and can still so now because then wasn’t in the stone age.

Brett Kulak: Unfairly scratched when Bergevin’s bargain bins trade deadline additions arrived, he got his place in the line-up back when they both proved to be defensive liability. I’d like to see him on the second pairing with Weber but playing him with Chiarot has proven to work.

Ben Chiarot: Played his best hockey of the season once Weber was injured because he finally got to play with a puck-moving D. He needs to bring his physical came and make life hard for the Leafs’ forwards. No fighting though, we really don’t want another broken hand.

Alexander Romanov: Should be in the line-up. Yes, he makes mistakes but so do Merrill and Gustafsson, difference is, Romanov is young and he’s here to stay. He watched the playoffs in the bubble last season, let him take part now, it’s time. The growing pains will all be worth it when he makes hi way into the Candiens top 4 in the years ahead.

Erik Gustafsson: Hard pass. Terrible, terrible, terrible defensively, if he plays, the Habs are toast.

Otto Leskinen: Unless there’s a slew of injuries, we shouldn’t see him.

Jon Merrill: One of Bergevin’s panic buy at the deadline, should not be in the line-up, the Leafs will make Ducharme regret that decision.

The goalies

Carey Price: The Habs badly need the Price we saw in the bubble last postseason who had a .936 save percentage. If Carey cannot steal some games, the Canadiens have no chance in hell.

Jake Allen: Had a very good season even if he didn’t get that many wins, the offensive support dried up when he was in, he deserved better. That being said, the net is Price’s all the way unless the Canadiens realize that playoffs Price is missing and that it’s the one from the regular season that has showed up.

Cayden Primeau: Shouldn’t play unless there are injuries, is not ready for the NHL yet.

Leafs Roster

The Forwards

Auston Matthews: goal-scoring machine, must be stopped at all cost and I’m sorry but that moustache is just atrocious.

John Tavares: the captain didn’t have an excellent season and he has yet to really win anything in the playoffs. With this Leafs’ roster, one would think it’s his best chance yet to prove he’s a winner.

Jason Spezza:

Alexander Kerfoot:

Joe Thornton:

Alex Galchenyuk: Shouldn’t play unless there are injuries.

Travis Boyd:

Adam Brooks:

Nic Petan:

Zach Hyman:

Pierre Engvall:

Nick Foligno:

Nicholas Robertson:

Kenny Agostino:

Mitchell Marner: The Leafs’ best player in my book, great hands and can thread the pucks anywhere he wants to feed his linemates.

William Nylander:

Ilya Mikheyev:

Wayne Simmonds: Should the Habs take the lead at anytime, expect him to drop the gloves to try and shake things (and his teammates) up

Stefan Noesen:

Scott Sabourin:

Joey Anderson:

The defence

Morgan Rielly: great offensively but does commit some mistakes, the Canadiens need to forecheck as much as possible and rush him in his decision making.

Jake Muzzin:

Justin Holl:

TJ Brodie:

Travis Dermott:

Zach Bogosian:

Rasmus Sandin:

Timothy Liljegren:

Ben Hutton:

The goalies

Jack Campbell: Bit of an unknown factor in the playoffs, will be interesting to see what he can do.

Freddy Andersen: If Campbell wavers, he’s next up. His performance in the bubble made a lot of Leafs fans doubt him but not enough to turn to Ridditch.

Big Save Dave Ridditch: No injuries, no playing.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: I like the Leafs a lot and met Potvin and Gilmour when I was a child. Also I hate all other teams with the only exception being the ones Selänne played for in those years.

Feel sorry for me because: I lived in Montreal for 14 years and all of my close friends are Habs fans and I never hear the end of it.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Leafs in 5

The main reason for this is: Matthews

The key to the Leafs winning is: Effective depth scoring

The Habs will win if: Carey stands on his head

The Habs will not be able to stop: Matthews from scoring a couple of amazing goals

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Anderson from scoring a cheeky goal after whining to the refs for getting hit

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Kulak

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Marincin

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: so much chippy play that each penalty is a headscratcher or obvious game management call. Leafs situation room with one call for the good guys.

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Matthews

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: Matthews has turned the corner from skilled scorer to beastly

Hi, I'm Bill and I'm a Leafs fan.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth because: I'm not the biggest Leafs fan on earth. The organization has been embarrassingly bad for most of my life.

Feel sorry for me because: The Habs fans I know are insufferable. There must be something about being a Habs fan in S Ontario that makes people behave like they have a massive chip on their shoulder.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Habs 7

The main reason for this is: The Leafs goaltending will be abysmal and the offense will not put up anywhere near regular-season production, like every other playoff year for this iteration.

The key to the Leafs winning is: Goaltending, and not getting injured by cheapshots

The Habs will win if: The Leafs goaltending is horrible and the refs allow them to drag the game down to their skill level

The Habs will not be able to stop: No one on the Leafs is unstoppable.

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Suzuki, Petry

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Chiarot

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Rielly

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: Habs will play dirty hockey, and clutch and grab the Leafs down to their level. Somehow, the penalties will even out or favour the Habs

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Suzuki

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: Nothing has changed about the Leafs.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Toronto in 6

The main reason for this is: the Habs aren’t that good and the coach went with the reunion tour lineup of washed up players instead of his kids, so it’s an easy loss in the first game, which we would badly need if we ever wanted a chance. The Habs will give all their heart and win two games, but the Leafs are just better in the end.

The key to the Habs winning is: Price or the kids. Either they need a goalie that stops everything, or they need goals, a ton of them, and Staal isn’t the answer there…

The Leafs will win if: Nothing changes. They have the upper hand right now.

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Trash goals. So, mostly, Gallagher. Probably Perry and a few others. I think Caufield could surprise if he ever plays.

The Habs will not be able to stop: anyone by game 5 and 6. The defense will be too slow and tired.

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Habs steps on the ice: STAAAAAAAALL!!!

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: It will be poop, like refereeing usually is in the NHL. And it will be playoff refereeing, so nothing will get called because they’ll “let the players play”, but that just means talent gets hindered by plugs. The NHL is clueless about what needs to be done to wow new generations…

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: Matthews. Eh… Or Price. Let’s hope it’s Price! XD

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: It will be anticlimactic for a first time series between the Habs and the Leafs since 1979 with no one in the stands and no tourists to annoy the locals.

Habs Roster

The forwards

Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Cole Caufield: give them the experience, for (frank)’s sale! Enough with the old useless players! I can’t stand this moronic mentality…

The goalies

Carey Price: Time to show your contract is actually worth at least a fraction of what it is.

Jake Allen: If Price falters early, I hope we see him.

HABS FAN PREDICTIONS

Hi, I'm not a Leafs fan.

Consider me the biggest Leafs fan on earth if there was only 1 NHL team left, and even then it is debatable.

Feel sorry for me because: I am so bored I am actually doing this.

The team that will win this series, and in how many games is: Leafs in 6

The main reason for this is: 90% because of the Habs coaching and management incompetence, 7 % stupid penalties taken by the Habs, 3% Leafs talent.

The key to the Leafs winning is: Showing up.

The Habs will win if: They play the kids and do not take stupid penalties.

The Habs will not be able to stop: Taking dumb penalties

The Leafs will not be able to stop: Scoring on the Power Play

I will laugh every time this Hab steps on the ice: Jake Allen, because that means Price failed.

I will throw poop at the screen every time this Leaf steps on the ice: Anyone in Blue and White.

My prediction on refereeing in this series is: Habs will take lots of stupid penalties, deserve most of them, and people will complain the refs/league are pulling for the Leafs

The 1st round Conn Smythe trophy winner will be: TIED: Caufield, Romanov and KK for not walking out on the team

If you remember nothing else I said about this series, remember I said this: Habs will put in the kids too late to change the outcome of the series

Phillip Danault: Will play his last 6 games in a Habs uniform

Jesperi Kotkaniemi: WIll gain 10 lbs eating hot dogs in the press box

Cayden Primeau: 2023 seems so far away.

There's way too much for me write there so I'm just going to post the Leafiest possible outcome.

Leafs go up 2 games handily and proceed to lose the next 4 in a row just in time to flame out huge in front of a partially filled Bell Centre.

Leafs fire Dubas and hire Chia Pet who fires Keefe and brings in Torts. Matthews, Marner and Nylander immediately demand trades and the Leafs end up with 3 bags of magic beans in return. Spatso becomes a Leafs fan.
