Jeff Paul: Golden Knights Have Strong Game, but Avs Prevail in OT The Colorado Avalanche took a 2-0 series lead over the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday evening. The visiting team played well, but came out on the losing end. Game Three is set for Friday in Vegas.

The refs put their whistles away for the last 7 minutes of the 3rd until that trip was called on the Avs. The Avs kind of did themselves a favor by taking that penalty because it allowed the refs to feel as if they had the freedom to call one against Vegas at some point. Shame on Vegas for not finishing the game in regulation. This feels like a sweep.

I can understand - a little bit - the VGK fans being frustrated with the call but the refs swallowed their whistles for the 4 minute high stick to Landeskog's face and Mikko being hauled down on a breakaway. Even the trip on Toews was a little soft but it gave the Knights a chance for the dagger. DeBoer is a real piece of work with his comments.

As Rantanen said afterwards, does anyone drop his stick on purpose in the d-zone? Game 3 should be interesting.

It's no wonder DaBore can't close the deal when It comes to big series, When you play an ultra fast and skilled team like Colorado you'd think the Knights coach could find better options than Reaves, Kolesar, And Brown.

Nobody clutches their pearls like NHL players and head coaches. "Oh lawd a mercy, we would never do such a thing! He embellishin'!" Please. Just as Ryan Reaves is a saint and wouldn't harm a fly, NHL players from teams not named Colorado can and will do whatever it takes to buy calls in big games like the playoffs. A slash is a slash is a slash, and if Vegas wants to cry about something they can cry about not doing themselves a favor and scoring in the final minutes of the game on their power play.
It sucks being in a 2-0 hole. They know the noose is now tightening, so they're mad about it. I get it. Anyhow, Jeff makes another great point by observing that referees probably shouldn't be making situational calls or non-calls. This happens far too often in the NHL, but we all know the officiating in general is pretty trash tier. Again, another nice write up and thanks for your work, Jeff.

No question Avs were the better team in game 1 and VGK was the better team in game 2. We got lucky in this one...

All I ask is for consistency. As I was watching the game in that 3rd period VGK got away with a few, the high stick on Landeskog and some trips that weren't called. But if you're not calling the ticky tack stuff, how in the (frank) do you call that in OT a "slash"...

Either way Vegas lost this game with all the missed chances they had in the 3rd. Shouldn't have gone into OT. They played well, it was imo the best game they've played all post season. The key will be repeating it and finishing on more of the chances. They're gonna need a miracle to come back but playing like they did last night would help.

Don’t expect the avs to play as poorly as they did and continue to turn the puck over as much as they did. When both teams are playing their A game the Avs are the better team

Bad penalty call in OT. Not a playoff OT call.

2nd straight game VGK have thoroughly outplayed them and almost lost again. That’s the scary thing about the Avs you can play almost a perfect game but they’ll bury that once chance they get.

Their PP is just scary and almost gave them 3-0 series lead today. Meanwhile it’s one of VGK biggest weakness IMO. The lack of PP. In playoff games where you need that to bail you out when you’re getting outplayed 5-5 or not creating enough chances and it almost bailed out the Avs for a 2nd straight game.

If Reaves gets back in the lineup just fire Deboer on the the spot.

We’ve officially got a series! Go Knights Go!
