Briere......ahhh......the good old days.

Always stepped up in the playoffs, and played much bigger than he was.

Miss that guy.

Bill if Gabriel Landeskog makes it to free agency, you see the flyers pursuing him at all?

Also what free agent do you think will get overpaid in money/term and the team will have buyers remorse sooner rather than later.

I would say Ersson was, if not the single reason, at least a very very big part in Brynäs not being relegated this season.

Bill (or anyone who knows),

2 guys we were talking about optimistically before the season/early on:

Emil Andrae and Elliot Desnoyer.

Any updates on their assessments?

Ersson looks like a legit prospect. Will Carter Hart hear those footsteps creeping up.

I can see Sandstrum heading back to Europe. Maybe that's why signed Ersson. Having a goalie play another year in the ECHL may not be best for their development.

Desnoyers had a very solid QMJHL season and has already been signed to a (slide-rule eligible) ELC.

Andrae struggled at the SHL level but did pretty well in Allsvenskan. Should see a lot more WJC ice time next season than he did this time around.

Actually, I think Sandström will be the primary Phantoms starter heading into next season.

I could see that, yes. But I think he re-signs.

I think there's a risk for the team that signs Taylor Hall because he came back to life after the trade to Boston.

What a fluky overtime goal from Boston last night. Why the heck was Varlamov on his knees when the shot is taken from 20 feet out. Standing up he makes that save. Also think Isles should be going with Sorokin in net.

Thanks Bill.

I was idly following Desnoyer stats. He was 2nd/3rdin points till about the 1st week of April, then got overtaken by a bunch of players (he finished 7th, upon checking). However, all but one (Lukas Cormier) is at least a year older than him.

When he was traded from Moncton to Halifax, I thought I read here that he was getting much better opportunities in Halifax because it was a weaker team. However, both teams finished with almost identical records this season, and both were below .500.

That 1975 draft was a good one for the Flyers, drafted both Bridgman and Holmgren that year. Bridgman had 924 penalty minutes in his six full seasons with the Flyers, he was a beauty and for a not very big man, a tough SOB.

Taylor Hall seems to need senior leadership on the team hold him accountable for his play, which you get in spades in the Bruin organization, or he just floats around on a breeze unmotivated.

Then he would thrive here with the core leadership group the Flyers have in place.

We don't need Taylor Hall, we need to mini-rebuild by getting rid of older expensive players, not add more.

Bill, Do you:

A. Like anyone enough to trade up @13?
B. Stay at 13?
C. Trade down in a trade?
D. Trade assets not involving the pick?

I would try for the injured Chaz Lucius or Eklund if he is there.

I am not assuming this pick would be involved with every and all trade scenarios.

The Bruins seem to have a style of play within their organization they expect their players to uphold, and they've done it for years and years. It really didn't matter who was coaching them, the players understood they were to play a certain way. Chara and Bergeron were/are great leaders.

When the Flyers organization used to have those same type of expectations, of the players in the organization, to play "the Flyer way", they had more success. That seems to have disappeared over the past decade.

I believe I read that I can’t comprehend that we could get a huge return for Giroux in the last thread. When was the last time any of you saw an 8 million plus player get traded for a huge return and why would Giroux waive his no trade with a wife and new born baby? Do you guys like moving, because I don’t.

Someone Educate me on this huge return and tell me what we’d get for Giroux at a high cap hit and down side of his career.

I’m all ears.

That would depend on what direction the team wants to take. From all indications they want to "win" now. So you trade the pick for established NHL player or a young NHL player. This pick wont likely help untiul 3/4 years down the line

I think Taylor Hall’s play in Buffalo was a reflection of two reasons. Unhappy to be there. Wanting to get out of there. Vince Carter did this to the Raptors like 20 years ago. Same might be said for Patrick Laine. I’m not saying Laine is perfect or who he’d be a good fit with but he’s too young to have “lost it”. Easily a top 5 wrist shot in the league.

Lets assume he was willing to waive and wants to be traded. Giroux is still a productive player. He could help any contending team. Put him on a teams 2nd line and I bet he somewhat thrives. He could be a teams missing piece. Then think if the Flyers retain 50% on the cap which is the smart thing to do. Do you not think several teams would be interested in his services?

This isn't an over the hill vet who can't play. What they would get possibly is an NHL player or 2 who can step in the line up now, picks and or prospects.
