oh man, 2nd overall, Devon Toewes, then another winger they end up drafting would definitely make people think. Maybe toss in the option for Toronto to pick who the Kraken take in the draft?

In the end I dont know if either team would do that though, interesting thought though.

I’d you could reasonably get Marner, you do it. He’s a top tier creator. That team would immediately have a name for the crowd to get behind, and they’d buy up those sweaters.

Part of the reason I’d say “go for it” is, well, this is an odd draft. Covid really threw a wrench in the gears. I know Power is the consensus #1 today, but it’s kind of wide open after that. Frankly, it wouldn’t surprise me that between now and the draft that Power is usurped as the favorite.

I’d like the sure thing. Marner is just entering his prime now. You could have him all throughout his mid 20s and onward.

Toronto fans want to tar and feather the guy, but I think just about any other team would love to have the guy if they could afford his coin. Seattle can totally build around it and be just fine.

Not to mention at nearly $11m/year, Marner could actually afford a nice, trendy studio in that town.

Shanny & Dubas won’t do that. Trading Marner serious affects Matthews production, I would think? How many primary assists did Marner get on Matthews goals?

I dunno, but my guess is a lot.

If you can supply Marner with a true sniper/scorer, he’s worth it.

I doubt the Leafs would consider it, but if for some reason they do, the Kraken just need a steady player for him to feed.

In his first three seasons, none of which he played with Marner, Matthews’ goals/game pace were 40, 45, 45. He’ll be fine without Marner.

I’d take a 50 goal season from Matthews and better team depth, than a 60 goal season and crappy team depth.

Make a deal? He might exposed!

Tavares has NMC, Nylander's 8.5 million cap hit might not be enough to plug the holes and Toronto makes bad decisions.

what?

Do you seriously think they would expose Marner? Nylander has a 6.9 cap hit.

Toronto will be fine

Holy mackerel! The 2nd overall to
Take a contract that COVID made a disaster is a huge favor to the leaves.

Toronto spending big on Tavares was even silly at the time. At his age, cap hit, PLUS a NMC was just stupid planning knowing your going to have to pay big money for others. Even though I’m a Sabres fan, I’ve never hated the Leafs ( well maybe just that hideous mustache Matthews sports lol) but man their business decisions have been head scratchers lately. Almost to the point they’ve hindered their win now push more than actually helping it. But to move marner imo is crazy! Move overhyped Muzzin and Nylander BEFORE you even think of moving an elite forward.

I'm sorry, but the only way the current Maple Leafs roster is contending for a Stanley Cup is if you magically take them back to the 1980s when you could actually score enough to compensate for average (at best) defense and goaltending.

If Marner is worth 3 firsts would Columbus' 3 firsts be worth it? The highest is 5th overall.

If Oshie was selected by the Krakens, would he waive his M-NTC to go to the Leafs?
Are the Leafs on his "NO TRADE LIST"

I like Oshie so it would be interesting to see him in a Leafs jersey.

It is unlikely for Ron Francis to trade draft picks for Marner. His history as GM in Carolina was to hoard draft picks. I don't think there was a year in Carolina with him as GM where they didn't have at least one pick in every round of the draft with usually a round or two with multiple picks. He left the cupboards full for Waddell and the majority of Carolina's roster is built through the draft. His draft picks won a Calder trophy in the AHL with the Charlotte Checkers.

Seattle likely hired him to build up a system that stockpiles the AHL as well as an NHL team. I look for Seattle to make trades that stockpile draft picks and not trade them away. They may be active in free agency to provide names the crowd will know and sell sweaters.

Mixed reactions to the proposal. I think it would be very appealing to the Leafs if they could convert the #2 pick into an elite Dman. If it was Power available in the #2 slot, my guess is most Leaf fans would say yes. There may be several other quality Dmen in the top 10 of this draft.

It works, if you modified the proposal to make it a 3 way with Marner to Seattle, Jones to Toronto and the #2 plus additional picks and prospects to Columbus.

Deal makes a lot of sense for Toronto and Columbus. But, I think it might be a difficult pill for the new Seattle fans to swallow.

Never hurts to pitch an offer but I dont see the Leafs trading him.

It will be interesting to see what the Leafs do. They have a projected 12 mill in cap space to work with needing to replace or sign 7 Forwards, one of which is Hyman. Need 1-2 Dmen (3rd pair and #7 prob only need 1.7 mill to fill both spots) Then comes the G. Do you re-sign Andersen or get a backup for Campbell?

I'm not confident they will have those 2 players (D. Toews and Oshie) to trade for Marner's services. But if I'm Seattle, the cap hit concerns me same as it does every team and I like my chances keeping D. Toews, the local boy Oshie, and the franchise's first EVER draft choice opportunities. Hard no.

For as talented a player Marner is, his contract and the road he took to secure it, will forever diminish how teams perceive and/or value his performance.

Marner to CBJ for Jones and Elvis and a 3rd.
Then CBJ trades a 1st and 4th for Kuzy (Wash retains $.8M)
CBJ has 1st line of Kuzy-Laine-Marner
