It was very entertaining hockey. Brown played the kind game we have seen from him all season. Nick Paul keeps getting better and JBD got some great seasoning. He seems to be a pretty cool character.

I think the Sens should got out and get Henrique. Fits the need of a veteran C. Had chemisty with Brown. Probably wouldn't cost a lot.

It was hard not to think about that idea, just seeing how well they were playing together. People might view it as a Stepan v2.0, but I think Henrique has a lot more poential, and they may also be able to get Anaheim to retain some of the contract. Plus, chemistry should never be presumed or taken for granted.

As for Brown not winning the MVP, it's pretty simple...
- Canada's record without Mangiapane: 0-3-0 (inc. Latvia, Germany)
- Canada's record with Mangiapane: 6-0-1 (inc. Finland, USA, Russia)
- Brown played in those 3 disappointing L while Mangiapane was in quarantine
- Mangiapane also led the WC in goals (7), despite playing only 7GP

Brown had an outstanding tournament, but only scoring 2G probably limited the perception of him leading the scoring table.

The chemistry Paul and Brown got playing together on the Sens pk was on display on Canada's gold medal winning goal.
I wouldn't mind if Ottawa picked up Henrique but I think Mangiapane would be a nice fit with the team also.
But he would probably be alot harder to aquire.

Can Logan Brown become another Nick Paul?
- david22

That's the question of the hour isn't it.

If you go back and look at people the organization gave up on too early or out of necessity

Zibanejad....ouch. But, would he have continued on that progression here in Ottawa?
Lazar.....well....he seems pretty useful as a Matt Martin type
Cowen....was it injury? Bad attitude?
Lee....who and why he got drafted where he did is still a mystery...

Logan Brown seems to be unable to play hurt. An old football coach question "are you injured or are you hurt". And an unwillingness to play hurt, when your career depends on it--is rather telling.

The only way the Flames would part with Mangiapane is if a trading partner insisted he be part of a bigger deal that involved significant pieces coming back to Calgary. The bread man just keeps getting better and better, with a work ethic that is tops on the Flames and a motor that is non stop - and all for under 3 Mil a year. I expect that he will be Calgary's top line right winger next season with Lindholm at Centre, Monahan traded away and Tkachuk or Gaudreau on the left side. Mang is part of the "new" core in Calgary.

While a gold medal is always impressive, have to take World Championships with a grain of salt, especially a Covid-19 World Championship. Let's face it, competition was meh and most players on Team Canada wouldn't even make a Team Canada 'C' or 'D' when selecting the best players.

Chemistry at international tourneys is nice. Henrique doesn't work cap-wise for the Sens unless they move White or something, which probably doesn't make a ton of sense for the Sens.

Nice to see quite a few Sens get some reps and Paul and Brown get some recognition outside Sens=land. 2 of the most improved players this year.

I'd do Henrique at 25% retained for Tierney and another piece. I'd do Henrique at full salary and 2nd for Tierney and a 3rd.

Obviously the worlds teams are not great compared to Olympics, especially this year; but I think the biggest takeaway is that guys who were willing to play this year with all the Covid stuff going on are either:

a) young guys that'll take any chance to prove themselves
or
b) veteran guys that love hockey that much.
or
c) guys that realize this is their only chance to play for their country and wouldn't pass it up for anything

The fact that a bunch of Sens played AND excelled is huge to me. These are the guys that you want on your team come playoffs and I think it showed that Ottawa is a team that isn't going to get bounced in the first round for five straight years.

I'll agree that Henrique isn't the answer though.

i wouldn't touch Henrique.....too much $$ and term left, especially for a guy who's essentially a 45pt player who's 31

there are significantly better players available who fit much better into what this team is building.

only deal for Henrique that i'd consider is something like...

Henrique for Zaitsev straight up.....ducks save 1.5 mil in cap, and we get a better player. doubt anaheim would make that deal, but nothing else with them makes sense

We talk a lot about the need for a number one center on this website.

Does Vegas and Montreal's strong play push back at all on that argument? I realize neither has one yet, but they both look quite good so far.

Not really.....The habs are just on a cinderalla run, basing your roster off them would be a HUGE mistake.

Vegas is a better model, but still not one i'd follow........when there's only one real example of a team enjoying great success without a true #1 center (and even then, still haven't won anything), and TONS and TONS of examples of teams winning with a #1 center and/or teams failing because they didn't have "that guy"....i think it's safe to assume that a legit #1 center is pretty key

Compelling argument. I am still not sure what to think of the "Canada Cup". Watching almost any other series lead me to believe all Canadian teams are miles behind the rest of the NHL in terms of competitiveness.

Vegas is an interesting example. They have super strong wingers, defense, and goaltending. The centres are not much alone, but surrounded by elite talent has seemed to work.

I feel Ottawa will be destined to try the sans #1C strategy for a season or 2. If wingers like Batherson, Tkachuk, and Stutezle can make centres better like Stone did in Ottawa and does in Vegas, it alleviates the #1C need.

Would still like to see a true #1C come through one way or another.

Good points to the above two.

I agree that having a number one center is ideal, but for a lot of teams that isn't a realistic option, or at all possible.

But the teams I mentioned seem to be doing well so far, so it may be something Ottawa needs to do as well.

Any chance some ex-leafs could convince Hyman to jump ship? With the core of players you have, plus the young blood hoping to crack the lineup, I wouldn't be surprised if Ott was better than Toronto in the very near future, especially if Hyman jumps over.

Bang on! Was great to see a couple of Sens contributing massively in Canada's comeback win. Brown with 14 assists! Leafs sure missed him this playoff. He's an absolute badger in the corners.

how about see how Norris and Pinto develop into in the next 1-2 years before spending half the farm and picks for a Eichel like player the sens may not need. Eichel will never be a sens, Buf will never trade him to a divisional rival, many are Comparing Norris to Bergeron when he came into the league.

Nobody is comparing him to Bergeron. Bergeron was a 31g 70pt player when he was 20......2 years younger than Norris is right now.......by the time he was Norris’ age he already had 200pts.

Norris will be very good, no doubt.......he’s not Bergeron.

Hyman would be a very solid add for the Sens. But, no doubt, he wants a long term deal. Problem is not the $000 value of the deal. As always, it is the term that kills you.

Toronto has a nice group of figure skaters who look really pretty during the regular season. But, always choke under the pressure of the free dance of the playoffs. Pretty looks good. But, it never wins in the playoffs. Regardless of what the Leafs do during the regular season next year, nobody will take them seriously until they win a playoff round. Sens actually match up really well against the Leafs and I expect good results next year. When the Leafs begin their free dance routine, somebody, perhaps Brady, needs to step up and punch them directly in the face.

This.

People really need to watch Norris more closely. He's a solid 2nd/3rd line centre on a team with strong wingers. Very, very similar to Kyle Turris during his time in Ottawa. He doesn't make players around him better but is effective enough to play with a teams top wingers. Not a knock on the guy, just the reality of what was seen this year. Maybe he can make a leap next season?

Pinto is interesting and honestly, I forget about him sometimes. Will be interesting to see his development. If any center in this system should be compared to Bergeron, it's Pinto. But alas, why make such outlandish comparisons to one of the best defensive centres in the game.
