Why are we taking back 2 LD

If we take Bjornfot hopefully we don't take power that guy is going to special

Ok, let's say character for all top prospects is the same. Extremely driven, highly competitive, extremely coachable, etc.

Then, who plays the most valuable position? Is it 1D or 1C? What is their upside at respective positions? Does Luke Hughes overcome Owen Power in D+3/4? Does Eklund project to score 85 points on the wing playing like Ehlers, vs Beniers who plays the game like Toews, scoring 60 points a year... who is more valuable? That's a good question.

Project their physical attributes by their body composition today, which is relatively easy to do.. then you determine how dominant these kids can be by their existing and projected attributes. I wouldn't be mad if I snagged new Erik Karlsson, new Jonathan Toews, or new Nikolaj Ehlers

What do you make of the scouting report that says Owen Power could be a Byfuglien/Burns combo dman and forward?

Why would Maata be coming back anyways, LA got the cap space and your taking Quick back at almost 6m

Jack Campbell, 2010, 10th OA.. probably closest to average.. until this year.

Jonathan Bernier, 2006, 11th OA

Al Montoya, 2004, 6th OA

Dan Blackburn, 2001, 10th OA

Brent Krahn, 2000, 9th OA

There's your goalie busts/average at best guys in the past 20 years in the top 11

Sabres have the space for cap dumps to maximize returns. 2 years on Quick, 1 for Maata. If the package gets you Bjornfot on top of Byfield and Iafallo for Olofsson, it's a massive win.

Power isn't physical and doesn't sport a beard. His offensive upside is constantly noted as limited.

as to your add on:

that's the upper-end...however power may equal myers, beniers somewhere between bennett and peca...or eklund an anthony beauvillier, hughes a samuel girard...we all know what happened in 2014...

ekblad and sam are exactly what they were touted to be...bennet took a dive and draisaitl came out as the most dynamic player in the draft

I would think Byfield and Bjornfot and 8 for Eichel would happen without a camp dump, Quick I could see if Olofsson was included for Iafallo.

Such is scouting. But that's irrelevant for this particular discussion, since this is only highest projection base and not a hindsight conversation. But I hear you. I think floor and ceiling both go into BPA.

I was just saying that If you have a goalie in the Price category he's the most valuable to a team. Its just the most unknown when drafting. How many top 10 goalies have joined that type of goalie class?

My guess is not many. I dont know though and im a little busy to do my due diligence

It's odd to me, but things may have changed here. Used to be, picking a goalie in the first round was bound to end up a poor value pick.

Now with Askarov, Knight, Samsonov, Oettinger, Vasilevsky and others looking like bonafide starters, I wonder if that is still the case.

High price to pay for a goalie. That being said, one or two truly great ones are getting into the top30 picks seemingly every year now.

I do not feel this way. If it happens, I will happily applaud you. Just seems astronomical for the Kings.

the sabres need players who can beat a vasilevsky-type goalie...eklund has that type of shot and quick release where a millisecond is the difference between a goal and a save

You guys say he isn't physical but he does use his body and length very well.

Hes just not laying the big body checks.

LA wants to add multiple forwards and a d-man.

They are going to want to shed cap or create an even trade to balance cap space so they can add more.

Don't need to be laying people out to use your body.

I watched him stiff arm a guy straight to the ice like he was a fullback

When the Sabres make that 1st pick, are they considering how well a guy like powers pairs up with dahlin?

Are we projecting d pairings?

Nylander pick clearly seemed to be eichels winger.

true story...jacob bryson isn't big, but his positioning, balance and use of leverage makes him effective

Yes. At 6'6" he should be using his body more instead of just his reach. For a guy arguably at 1 OA.
