His first two years he actually did play that way. The last two, you are correct, have been less than stellar.

How many gritty, physical players end up in consideration for the Lady Byng? The guy averages 45 hits a season. IDK but a gritty, physical type should manage to find his way to at least one a game in my world.

He did have 70 his first season but everything about him is trending in the wrong direction.

I have never watched him and wished he was on the Hawks. Giving up Z for him is fine and all but I wouldn't expect much if it did happen.

I know you don't like debrusk so lets for get about debrusk who would fit that bill of power forward imo hawks are lacking trade route or free agency?
- Scott1977

None right now. One player won't make much of a difference in any event. Its needs to be a team thing.

Besides, until the Hawks get rid of the yoga instructor as their strength and conditioning coach, it won't matter.

Theodore is basically Goofy Gus with a draft pedigree.

What about Carpenter?

I was more just qualifying Theo's description than arguing for getting him on the team. He's not a bruiser, but more of a Hagel type (when playing well). You are spot on that he is trending on the wrong direction.

I would be embarrassed to take a bag of pucks for Carpenter. But hey, if someone else thinks he is useful, buyer beware. He has been as useless as Smith in his time here.

Well, aside from Hagel's effort on every shift you mean. That is another issue with Debrusk.

This isn't aimed at you because you don't fit the mode. So many of the players many here pine for would be getting hammered if they have to watch them every game.

Yep, I’d have that guy chained to the bench in the third. Plus/Minus usually does not mean much, but his -2 is well earned.

Well, yeah. I watched a bunch of him his rookie year because I really liked watching his dad play. He was much more focused and single minded. It was crash the net, hard on the puck, and bust your butt to get back. He seemed to think himself a more dynamic player which has gotten him into trouble.

I'm not advocating for him at all. The Hawks have plenty of guys like him. They need to acquire more actual talent. With the volume of depth players they now have, I'd be interested in them packaging a few so that they can get some difference makers.

For those that are wondering how far away the Hawks are, tune in to this game, it should give you a good idea.

3 seasons ago, the Avs were the worst team in the league by far.

And MacKinnon, Rantanen, and Landeskog were all much less prolific scorers.

Yes they were. That is why Stan needs to stay the course, keep adding assets.

The problem that they are going to run into is that they have so many young guys that are all coming in at the same time. It can make it difficult to determine which guys are going to be real difference makers as they are not "fully formed" yet. I like that they have started to accumulate as many big body lottery tickets as possible to try and build that part of their team as well. Hardman, Gaudette, Slavin, Entwistle, C. Morrison, are all guys that can hopefully turn into those big forechecking types that all teams need.

It will be interesting to see who they leave unprotected and try to trade. I would venture to guess that Nylander (unless he shows marked improvement), Strome, Hino would be on their way out in short order if I am reading the tea leaves properly.

- Chunk

You don't think Kane and Toews separated themselves quickly? If they can't separate themselves they are likely not "high end talent."

I was thinking the same thing watching the Islanders last night. Man did they put on a defensive clinic in the 3rd period.

You or anyone else, including me, does not have any idea what the players in the system can become rn. Guys outperform their projections all the time. The sample size is too small as of yet.

MacKinnion took until his 5th season to become the player we see now. He was okay in his 1st 4 but was far from the dominant player he is now. And BTW, about to get bounced in the 2nd round. To a team with Chandler Stephenson playing as their top line center.
