As it stands, no it is not great... Leafs could move out salary though.. I think Rielly is the one to move.. I mean, he's a great player but he's not a PP1 guy and he's not the strongest defensively.

I could see a guy like him being moved

- PatC80

Me too, plus he still hasn’t figured out how to play a 2 on 1 after 20 years.

We'd still have Cap space.. Didn't he say trade Rielly and Nylander?

Losing Andersen, Hyman, Foligno, Nash, Thornton, Simmonds, Rittich frees up more space

- PatC80

you still need to replace them and Nylander cap hit is manageable.

11 UFA to replace. I'm not counting Marincin.

matthews 11.6m
tavares 11.0m
marner 10.9m
hamilton 8.5m*
nylander 6.9m

48.9 mil tied up to those doesn't give much left over for your supporting cast.

that what I'm saying

Leafs have like 12.5 million in cap space with like 7 players who need to be signed.

Cap situation is not great - Regardless of what Roger tries to tell us.

It will be interesting to see what happens to Tampa.

Will this be the year the NHL actually makes them adhere to the salary cap?

- Atomic Wedgie

They did this year. Kucherov has every right to go for surgery. The team has to share medical information with the league but it’s going to take an awful lot for someone to review that information and override the doctor that’s been treating the guy for a year a say back to work; not for a highly paid athlete who could be injured in the most litigious country in the world. I looked through the CBA and didn’t see any provision for the league to send in their own doctors.

I remember a few years ago before he was traded to Vegas, I suggested a Nylander for Stone trade.
the Nylander fanboys thought that was crazy, and Stone supposedly was a very limited player.
Matthews and Marner could have used a Stone on their line

- MaximusAurelius

You seem to remember a lot of poop in your favour. I’m not buying this. Another fictitious trade proposal that you feel so strongly about, that you start to believe is possible or even true. If you mention it, it can happen, regardless of reality - you know…stuff involving the people that actually make the decisions and execute.
“Should have traded Marner for McKinnon. Remember when I said that, I do, and now look who was right.”

To me it looks like Bergeron out scores him by a mile. Maybe I have it upside down....

Kessel's 1.2M comes off the books at the end of next season which will be nice. Doesn't help this year but going forward...

I would certainly consider it depending on the pay cut he is referring to, hes not the answer for our issues, but hed help with secondary scoring.
- Archaic

That’s the thing.

If the pay cut is large we would be stupid to not take the bargain contract.

I think they could shift things around and add him without getting rid of the core 4.

But if he’s coming in cheap I’m sure that would be something that could change the plan.
