So, maybe?
If he signs 1 yr for less than $5M, why not? - PatC80
Because, thanks to the $40M we have tied up in 4 forwards, the leafs really dont have that kind of cash to spend on goalie.
Plus I dont see Rask accepting a 1 year deal. |

I don't get why fans want a goalie.
Campbell was fantastic last year, playoffs and regular season. At 1.65 M Leafs would be crazy not to go cheap in net and maximize dollars on the forward group or Hamilton if he is willing too sign here. - Santo_44
I'm not worried about Campbell. If/when the Leafs lose Andersen and Rittich we'll need goaltending |

Anyone notice how RJ isn't showing his ugly face around here today?
Pathetic loser who follows a pathetic loser team from a pathetic loser city that hasn't won anything in at least a couple of years.

I agree that Campbell did a good job last year.
But since it would be his first full year as a starter, getting another solid backup/alternate starter would be the safe choice.

Yup, the leafs need to sign a cheap 1B goalie who can handle 40 games, in case Soupy gets injured or faulters.
But no need to bring in an expensive 1A goalie |

Winning as a back up to Tim Thomas still counts - PatC80
Yes he has a ring - but I specified while playing in Post Season.
He went a pedestrian 11-14-2 during that season. Well below his standards (306-163-66)

I haven't played goalie in 16 years back when I played Midget "A".
I mean I'd gladly do it but I'd probably tear up a ligament in my first game.

I don't think Campbell could handle a starter role.

Looking at the UFA list... there aren't a ton of options.
Mrazek? Raanta?
Rinne maybe?

Some veteran goalie on a $1.5 M X 2 year contract.
A guy who can be a calm, steadying influence, yet not threaten him for the starting position. |

Probably re-sign the goalie we traded a 3rd for.

You're being difficult.
Grabbing a good but not too good, cheap, experienced but not too old, calm goaltender is HARD.

you're making me hard. Wait, that's on Dubas to find a good backup that is not expensive and won't challenge Campbell, but can be pencilled in for at least 35 starts. |

Campbell didn't lose the Leaf's series, but he didn't do anything to sway it their way either. To advance in playoffs, you NEED a goalie to steal a few games. He did not. No goalie the Leafs have had the past few years has stolen a game in the playoffs. Just look at Varlamov/Sorokin. Both have won a game or two in the first two rounds that the Isles had NO business winning.
Playoff winners win b/c they are constructed from a goalie and defense first mentality. |

I want something more than Big Save Dave level insurance for a guy who played 29 total games last year. I’m ok with Campbell as the starter but I’m prepared to pay $2-3 of Freddie money for a legitimate 1b. |
