"So, in their fourth year, the Golden Knights have already tied the Canucks, who’ve been around for half a century, in 3rd round appearances with three? Cool. Happy Friday to you too."

Just read this #BettmanhatesVancouver

Can we bring in McPhee so he can do all his back door deals to make the Canucks better??

If JB's guy is still there, hell ya to trading down. He say's he has his 9 guys, one or two teams will jump off the consensus train. Maybe someone in the top 9 takes G Jesper Wallstedt. That said JB's not the gunslinger type and will play it safe.
- VanHockeyGuy

If one is there, I would say he takes it. The same as if Podz was gone, said he was going to trade down. Hopes will be that his list differs a bit from others and 3 or 4 of his guys are still there and trades down to at least pick up another 2nd or 3rd.

Is he worth 9oa, not even (frank)en close.
- manvanfan

Basically what you are buying is the years of development between draft and making it to the NHL. Paying a premium for that is stupid, unless you have terrible scouts and a dysfunctional development program.

In seven drafts he's never traded down with his first round pick, has he? I seriously doubt he trades down, even if he did, someone would take advantage of him due to his lack of intelligence.
- DraftandDestroy

It would be his ticket out of town. He also doesn't have the stones to make such a bold move.

I believe he has a history of mental health issues. Not an excuse, just a tidbit I heard.

But I agree with Civ, listening to the questions some media members ask can be painful. It’s like journalism school isn’t a requirement anymore, or schools are just passing everyone because they don’t want to hurt someone’s feelings.

- 1970vintage

The question's are very poor by a lot of journalist. The answers by the players have to be better than the same old, get strong, faster in the off season.

The bigger problem is anyone can get a media pass. Write a blog or run a podcast and you are the new media.

I loved when Green at the end would ignore or say next.

- VANTEL

I don’t think that’s quite true. Ian Esplen never got a media pass. I believe Carol is considered media more for her contribution to Forbes and Bleacher Report than for HockeyBuzz, not that this isn’t a valid contribution to Vancouver hockey media.

I don't think they are trading down either . I think he is just cutting to the chase . If you want this pick it has to be a hell of an offer.

I think if he did trade it would be for a top 4 D or a guy like Reinhart.

- VANTEL

The Canucks organization can get themselves a really nice prospect at #9...I wouldn't be trading it under any circumstances. The next General Manager will be set up nicely with a bunch of young players, once the crap that Benning's compiled dissipates there's an opportunity to surround those young players with a much better group.

Don't put Carol in the same league as Ian. Carol is a credited journalist that travels the world. Daniel Wagner is an idiot that writes a blog.

Man he built a great team in Vegas with his deals to agree to take this guy or that guy for a player and a first round pick. Laugh all you want, what he did in Vegas is pure genius.

He also selected guys who were talented but down in the depth charts and compiled a ton of draft picks which he turned into great players.

I don't know that to be true. I have seen two GMs that have admitted they don't know a lot about this years player other than a few. The GMs did ask for a pushback on the date of the draft because of all the uncertainty

Cernak, I don't think either will be worth a 9oa player in any draft. There is lots of potential around that range if you can draft.

Cernak a good player and is 24 years old but right now he is not the stronger player on his pairing. McDonaugh one of the steadiest Dman in the league.

Straight up for 20-32 pick somewhere in there.

I look at 2 rankings Bob McKenzie and Central Scouting, big difference in opinion between the 2. There's a good chance someone who JB wasn't expecting to be there falls to him. Especially this year.

Yes. I don't even know if there was a question with the guy though and to straight up just swear like he did. More than just a bad question was involved in that.

I think his question was basically, “do you think maybe you overthought this series and next year you should just say fuck it and just play”

I mean, I get it, but yeah, that’s not the kind of question that gets you an invite next time there is a media availability.

Bob's are by far the best. Poll of 10 guys and finding consensus pretty much eliminates the bias of the single guys.

Hell, I try and eliminate my own bias in my rankings Even then I can only be 2 people really. Not 10.

There's what, over seven billion people in the world, and they can't identify nine great young hockey players. Come on. It's the depth players from the second round and beyond who they'll have issues identifying, not the best young kids in the world. Most of the top kids have been on the proverbial radar for several years.
