Abbotsford Falcons? That's one of the possibilities that the Vancouver Canucks are apparently considering as they consult with fans to help name their new AHL franchise in Abbotsford.

Thanks Carol its got to be brand unity for AHL team name. Draw the lower mainland families that can't afford an NHL game. The Abby market alone isn't big enough to support team. But if you want to give the locals a nod then Aviators is classy and flows.

As for $ that's good its being spent to turn around the disappointment.

QH and Petey need to be bridged to add new high value pieces and open the window to contention.

I listened to Button yesterday and as a cranky old guy I can relate to what he was saying. He was basically yelling why would any team want to go long term? He said so many teams get into trouble going long term.

I know some would like 7 or 8 year deals but I am not one of them. I am quite happy paying for 3-4 year deals . If it is your star players 5 max for me . That is my personal choice.

It goes both ways on long term deals. You have the Doughtys and Bobrovskys that look bad, but then you have the Marchands and Bergerons and MacKinnons that look like steals.

If Colorado went short with Mac, and he was due for a raise this year, they'd be looking at adding another 5-6 mil for him.

I wouldn't sign Hughes long term right now, but Petey for 7 years I could see.

I see teams trying to bury or trade a lot of big names . Toews Seabrook Eichel Kopitar Brown Marner Getzlaf Perry Malkin Parise Weber .

Just a small sample of teams committing and then trying to reverse it.

Mac said a few days ago he would sign lower than market value so his team can compete.

Toews = 29
Seabrook = 32
Kopitar = 29
Brown = 29
Getzlaf = 29
Perry = 29 and was bought out
Parise = 28
Weber = 27

Those were the ages when they signed those deals. So ya, signing a player through their thirties is a lot more risky than locking up a 22 year old to a long term deal. As for Marner and Eichel, their teams are having issues and those are players to move out. Doesn't have much to do with the length of their contracts (though their cap hit is too high, but that's a different issue from length)

I’m with Vantel on this one. 3 years for each. Let’s keep the cap hit low so we can spend next summer

I heard JV submitted a name for the minor league squad and it's the Abbotsford Pussies.

I would be fine with those, but if trading Miller, I would want Timmons and Graves, we could add Motte and get Compher.

Should be a fun July. Freidman thinks it is going to be very active . This year I can see it with the flat cap and the E Draft

I mean, ya, that's okay.. but then in three years you're reupping both of them to higher numbers and you've created another potential cap squeeze by spending next summer. Between now and resigning EP and QH, you'd have Boeser the year after next and then Bo and JTM the year after that.

I'd say if EP is willing to sign for a little Swedetown discount, going 7 or 8 for him sets a good landscape for the future. I'd go a bridge on Hughes as there's greater variation in his game.

However, I do think both players will take smaller bridges as it makes more sense for them with the potential for the cap to go up in a few years.

I think it will be the most interesting off-season in history.

I do expect someone on Tampa to get a broken fingernail and be on LTIR all next season though.

Until they change that loophole every GM should be jumping on it.

Does anyone ever go into the Canucks HF thread? Sometimes it seems like a forum dedicated to giving Gillis a verbal BJ. The people wanting him out in 2014 are the same ones wanting him back now....
