No he won't. Makar will play on one pairing and Jones on another. For a team with Cup aspirations, he is a perfect fit. They're 25M under the cap. Likely going to lose a 3-4M player in the ED.

Back to the second pairing, eh.

Cap space per space left to fill…They only have about half their roster signed for next season. Money is going fast. Let’s see what they do in goal.

Again, do you recall when Timonen played on one pairing and Pronger on another for the Flyers? Tell me why a team can't have two first pairing level pairings? They have the cap space, no doubt.

I recall them being a lot older then Jones and Makar, and it not lasting very long due to Pronger’s injury. It’s not comparable.

You're reaching badly here. It is absolutely comparable. There are numerous examples of top defenseman on a team playing on separate pairings. The age of the players is irrelevant. That Pronger got hurt is irrelvant here.

I don't begrudge anyone from wanting to cash in, but it does tell you a bit at least about what is the most important thing to Jones, doesn't it? Its not that I don't think Hamilton or Jones are good players, its that I don't believe it makes sense for the Flyers to hand over the farm and a boatload of money to obtain either one. You of all people have posted time and time again that the Flyers should not panic, the Flyers should not go back to the old days of making the biggest splash in free agency, but they need to be smart, patient, draft well and develop. Well, I am agreeing with you for the most part in this instance. I don't want the Flyers to throw tons of cap space and potentially good assets at one player and somehow think everything will turn around. It won't! It won't! This Flyers team has multiple holes that need to be filled; they lack top end defensemen (note plural here), they lack speed, they lack skill, they lack grit and toughness, they lack leadership, they have an aging core, they have no backup goalie, and right now even if JVR is taken in the ED, they lack significant cap space. Thus I want the Flyers to make smart moves, bring in toughness, speed, character and leadership, and continue to draft well and develop. That to me is the only way out of this.

I think jones is exactly what this team needs, super stready #1RHD. He would be a star here.
\And i have no idea what the package to get him would be, dont want to see them give away the farm, but at least be involved to see what it takes

Jones would be a perfect pickup for the Avs. Especially one the 1 year left on his contract

Unless Jones is singing an extension, which he already said he is not, how can any team give up good assets to acquire him? I think Columbus is stuck now at least until the trade deadline, where they can maybe pick up a number 1 pick and a prospect from a contending team that sees Jones as the guy to put them over the top. That won't be the Flyers this year unless Fletcher shocks the world with savey moves this off season. No, if the Flyers want Jones, I'd wait until FA next year. Take this year to right the ship so you can show Jones this is a destination where he can win a cup. Right now is not the time for Jones IMO.

He doesn’t owe the jackets anything. Under the system he has the right to pick his next home. (If he reaches UFA). I’m surprised more guys don’t go this route….it could lead to more $ but probably has more to do with his preference to live and were he wants to be 8 months a year for the next 7 years. The guys going to get paid either way. Now, the price for him just dropped substantially. Is it smarter for the jacket’s to fish and cut bait or wait till the season or even the TDL next year? That’s up for debate. depends if the jackets think they have a reasonable chance to get him signed I guess…
As far as the rest of your comments, I agree. Fletch has to get creative and get something done…to do nothing and roll out last years lineup come October will probably result in yet another waisted year…..and that’s not acceptable.

It's been acceptable for quite some time now (to roll out the same garbage)
Why is this year different?
