Karine Hains: Trading Places 48 hours after winning a game they didn’t really deserve to win, the Habs had a taste of their own medicine in a 2-1 OT lost against Vegas.

I'm pretty sure if the refs gave a penalty for that punch, there would be a penalty after every time a goalie makes a save and there's a scrum in front of the net. Guys throw little punches like that all of the time, it's pretty much part of the game. People throw punches like that after a hit or after a little scrum against the boards during play all the time and play continues.

Habs stopped playing / pushing the pace early in the 3rd.

So this loss is not surprising.

I think the Knights will win the series now, Habs blew their chance to very likely get to the next round tonight.

the series is tied 2-2, and the habs clearly have shown that they can hang in there and compete with the knights, not sure why you think it's over now but ok

This. Plus refs weren’t as bad in Vegas. I stand by my Montreal in 6 prediction

The top 4 D looked burnt even before the 3rd was over.

Overuse is catching up.

I don't think they can last 6 games - the Habs had to hope to finish this in 5 and bet on a long NY-TB series to get those guys rest.

That is why I think this series is over.

But we will see.

We will indeed. And with nothing being called, might be time to re evaluated Gus’ place in the line-up, his presence is the main reason the top 4 is being so overused. He played 6 minutes at even strength tonight and 1:29 on the sole PP...

I never thought I'd say this, but I'd hesitate pulling Gus for the next game.

Don't get me wrong, I don't like his overall game in the least. But if there's a chance we have a different referee duo next game, then I'd keep him in for the PP skills he's shown.

Now, if we see the same incompetent referee duo, then play Romanov, and live with the mistakes he might make, because we'd would likely get away with any cheating on plays, or running players with heavy hits.

If we have a different pair, then keep Gus in case we have an (OMG, SHOCKING!) powerplay, because he at least keeps the puck moving.

Just my two cents.

Romanov needs to play. Is Kulak on the third pair? What's his playing time?

Maybe use Cale fleury....

Habs should have known better that they needed 6 defensemen to go far.

it's 2-2, but still

For sure, I was honestly thinking of calling out the top 4 D as your unsung heroes yesterday.

If we're going to play a regular 3rd D pair, I'd definitely prefer Romanov/Kulak over Merill/Gus for sure.

We'd lose that PP advantage that I begrudgingly admit Gus brings, but that pairing could almost act like the "energy" D line. Both Kulak and Romanov are decent
skaters, and Romanov can bring those heavy hits. The only knock would be neither are true defensive specialists.

Agreed. Guess it’s a tough decision, glad it’s not on me . The refs should be marginally better tomorrow at least so hopefully we get some PP time...

I don't get that at this point Dan O'Rourke and Chris Lee are still working games. There isn't anyone else better?

Un criss de jambon.

Not usually one to wish ill on people, but I wouldn't mind seeing him hit by a stray shot in his stupid face.

the 5 v. 5 high danger chances were 17-0 nothing for Montreal last night in regulation. they cannot play any better defensively than they did last night. and 99% of the time that McNabb goal is a routine stop for Price. he just flubbed it.

not saying the guys aren't getting gassed but they did the job last night. we just need an insurance marker that never came.
