Holl has far more value then dermott

Trading Reilly to sign Hamilton means Brodie can flip to left

Holl and muzzin are a decent 2nd line

As far as Malhotra goes - don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. Keefe should be pounding salt as well.

Not many great coaches out there though. Boudreau is a possibility - He loves the Leafs the way Spezza loves the Leafs. Lane Lambert the Islanders assistant would also be ok. This season has showed us that the regular season has about as much value as the Exhibition season.

From last blog:

Adding truculence as a generic term means nothing. Trading a defenceman for Sam Bennett may add some grit which is nice until Muzzin goes down and suddenly Ben Hutton or Marincin are next up in the depth chart.

Dubas added pieces to try to make the Leafs tougher to play against - Bogo, Simmonds, Foligno. Simmonds just skated around, Foligno was hurt, Muzzin was hurt, JT was hurt.

They need to add a heavier, forechecking element to their game. Finding some size with the ability to score on the wings should be their top priority (plus a goalie) this offseason). Call it truculence if it sounds better.

- Canada Cup

Maroon, Goodrow, and Coleman are not generic terms. They mean something, especially to their moms (presumably).

Bogo was a breath of fresh air and filled the role of 3rd pair with grit admirably. And yet, the Leafs still managed to get pushed around in their own end by a tenacious and relentless - and dare I say "truculent" - Habs forecheck.

Simmonds = broken and and a failed flier project

Foligno = precisely the kind of player that Dubas avoided acquiring until the TDL. Got himself injured, was half the player he normal is, and with no other forward seemingly capable of filling his role.

But yes, that thing that I (frank)ing argued about all season long is what this team desperately needs and I'm going to (frank)ing call it "truculence" because it's fun and Burkian, but also because it's a perfect adjective.

Replace "truculent" with "tenacious, relentless forechecking", "heavier", or whatever if you will. The point is clear.

Per the defence corps, the Leafs need to decide now if it's Rielly or someone else. If it's someone else, Dougie Hamilton is the guy that makes the most sense and I'll scream that until the day he signs elsewhere (which probably won't stop me).

1. The forward group needs more tenacity/relentlessness/heaviness/truculence to compete.

2. The Leafs power play needs two legit scoring forwards and a d-man who is an actual threat with a point shot to be elite functional.

3. The goaltending remains a major question mark at this point. I like Campbell but can he handle the load? Who else can the Leafs acquire to be a legitimate 1b guy?

4. Trade (frank)ing Mitch Marner.

The Leafs have exceptional skill. But, are they too soft?

Some folks believe that the skill that allows you to flourish in the regular season is easily neutralized once the playoffs begin. You need crash and bang combined with high end skill in order to triumph in the post season.

Love Jason Spezza, Joe Thornton is a genuine superstar, Joe took Patrick Marleau's roster spot. Marleau we all know, is a first ballot hall of famer. In his day, Simmons was a real force.

But, what is this Leaf fascination with aging veterans? Can it work in the playoff grind?

I think Hamilton should sign for a discount due to the fact he was a pick that should have been ours from the Kessel trade. That said, we could flip Captain Morgan for Seguin also.

The coaching staff was out coached. I have no doubt that Keiffe is a good coach but he still has much to learn. Shanahan and Dubas will die on this hill they insist on remaining! Leafs will be lucky to make the playoffs let alone win a round, ring in the same division with Tampa, Bruins, Florida, etc.
Reilly must go! We need Hamilton and a shot from the point! NEED dmen who will clear the front on the net! Our D, except Bogo and Muzzin would be eaten alive in the frenzie that happens in front of the net in the current rounds! Nobodies afraid of Reilly and hit wrist shot from the point is tired.

I believe 31 teams sign veterans. And this was the first year they really loaded-up on vets.

it won't translate to success in the playoffs, because the referee's forget what a whistle is, or what a penalty is.

Our core needs to be doing that. The bottom 6 talent is pretty irrelevant. Might as well play Robertson and Brooks over aging vets

This is my concern. If they put away the whistle and allow clutching and grabbing, then you do need to build differently.

McDavid was basically assaulted for 4 games without calls. Think NBA would allow that with their stars?

I'm very critical about how the NHL sells it's game.

So we agree on adding the forecheck capacity. Simmonds doesn’t cut it and Foligno doesn’t have 5he offensive chops to play on the top line.

I think the big question is do you dump Marner or bring in a guy - generic Josh Anderson to play on the top line or somewhere in there. I’m not sure we give up on Marner. The skill is there and it’s more an issue of changing the way the lines play.

Obviously that changes the money dynamics and it means the money you find from Freddie savings and Kerfoot and elsewhere goes to a couple of power forwards and not Hamilton. Maybe it’s different if you move Rielly, I really don't know how it all works out but I put the priority on those forwards, not on Hamilton and I keep Marner.
