Eugene Melnyk will be all over that contract like Brucey Boudreau on an IHOP. Watch the Sens trade for Phil and score against the Leafs each time he plays them.

wow, I haven't thought about Kessel in years. He will be snapped up im sure. Ton of teams looking for cheap depth like you said. I'd love to see him on the Habs to shore up the offense.

Hey thanks for reading. You must be on pins and needles with this semifinal. The tension is highly entertaining, but I'm sure it is rough for fans of the Habs and Golden Knights. Thanks for reading.

Lol pregame snacks for Phil. Montreal would sell whatever it takes for him to be motivated to score.

No offense to Phil but he's the second best hockey player in his family. #AmandaKessel

Phil is a good ole hockey player. With the right team he could be completely invaluable. He is not a leader. He won't turn a team around. He needs to play with a center who is defensively aware. There are coaches that simply would not play him.

All that said, he could still be a difference maker. He forces teams to recognize his speed and shot. He can turn a quick little push pass into a odd man rush/scoring chance with the best.

Phil is a victim of something that Kevin and Eck have brought up before. They have been labeled a certain way and that is it. It is only driven home when every time his name comes up Mike makes a hot dog joke.

As a side question, does anyone know what meds he has had to take for maintenance since his battle with cancer? Ever think that his dough boy appearance could be fueled by that? Not saying it is....but it is possible.

I would take Phil in a second. Give him a decent center, PNH for example, and step back and let them go. But that's just me.

Care? Then where's the gym? How good would he have been if he took care of himself?

He's got an incredible talent but I'll never have full respect for anybody who is getting paid substantial amounts and walks around looking like the big Lebowski.

You know what, I didn't think of that. That would make sense as he'd likely be experiencing some level of hypogonadism. Add to that he's probably not allowed to be properly treated for low t.

Kessel for Jake Voacek.

Arizona gets 3 years of a productive player which is the key as no top players want to go there it seems.

Reports of him being out of shape have always ignored his fitness tests:

FFS, even Damien Cox had to admit he was wrong.

The other "damning report" that came out of Toronto was when he said that he hadn't put his skates on more than 4-5 times all summer, and people equated that to him not working out.

On the broadcast I watched, it was pointed out that this season, the last on Kessel's contract, he is to receive $5 million mid-summer and then he has just $1 million left of base salary.

That should make him very attractive on the trade market. So many teams need secondary scoring and also are being tortured by salary cap issues.

But why would a cash-poor team trade him at that point?

The Coyotes won't want to trade him after his bonus has been paid. If they do deal Phil, it will be before the bonus.
