No one wants jvr for two years at $7M, ghost you would be getting a crap contract back, is that value?if you are eating salary how does he have value? - ClaudeFather
You so sure about this? I know Seattle would be willing to take him. I also think with the right deal other teams would want him, especially teams with cap space and look at JVR as a piece that can get them into the playoffs. JVR had a good season for the Flyers overall, this is the time to leverage that. |

Personally, I don't think Couturier will want to continue his relationship with the Flyers when they continue to slide down the NHL standings in the coming years. I say that because of the core of elderly players who management seems to want to continue to compete with against other teams. - DraftandDestroy
It will be interesting to know what his take on it is currently. I assume he isn't blind to what other teams have compared to what the flyers have organization wise.

That same BS was levied at Hasek, Modano, Yzerman, OV, Bourque, Selanne, on down the line. Takes a team and a tremendous amount of luck to win the Cup. - Tomahawk Yzerman and OV were slapped with that label 100%. Not so sure about the others though my recollection may be off.

Your idea of trades is so off base it’s insane - ClaudeFather
We'll see who is closer to reality very soon. All I see from you is the Flyers have nothing anyone wants, and we are stuck in the mud. I simply don't agree with you. Do the Flyers have top players, nope! But they have some good players that have value. Since the Flyers can't trade Hayes or G and I can't imagine they want to trade Couts, Jake, JVR and Ghost are the only eligible vets they can move on from and make a significant shakeup of their core. I don't expect the Flyers to get much value back, the value in these trades is addition by subtraction, getting cap space and opening up spots for their younger players to get a chance and develop. |

OK, agree to disagree on this. - MBFlyerfan
If the Flyers make the playoffs next season, it is BECAUSE of the play of G. Maybe I'm not understanding this argument to trade our highly-serviceable, long-serving captain. G does so many things and can contribute in a 2nd or 3rd line role. Face-offs, PP, etc. We all agreed that he will not be able to carry this team and needs help. Where else do you find someone to fill that void? |

Seattle is one thing but you said trade value based on Jake going to Seattle so you are contradicting yourself. What teams have cap space that would want jvr , please enlighten me |

Don't forget this past season JVR projected to score 63 points and 15 PP goals over an 82 game season, and did this during a pandemic. This absolutely has value in this league.

If you actually learned to read and read any of my posts, that is exactly what I have been saying all along, the value in the trades of these players is shaking up the veteran core and gaining cap space so you can sign other FAs. |
|
|
|
The question isn't should they sign Coots or not.... it's basically a no-brainer if he's willing. The real question is how they plan to structure the deal. 8-years + NMC carries some enormous risks. - Tomahawk
Good point that few are willing to address.
What deal does Couturier sign? $8.25 cap hit or more? 6 - 8 years? NMC? And how does this affect the rest of the roster/cap space? The risk is significant and dismissed too easily by some. |

I can not see him taking less than 8 years for 8 million per. This is his last contract.
So 64 million minimum. I also imagine since they give out NMC like candy he has earned himself one as well.
He has the same type of year in 2021/22 he will be a top end free agent who will be in demand. Top guys always get paid.

The only argument you could make against Couturier in terms of comparison to Bergeron and overall play is skating. Couturier could very easily lose his legs, which is the advantage Bergeron has as he gets older. - SuperSchennBros
You’d categorize Bergeron as fast? I don’t think Coots is an elegant skater but he gets around just fine. |

Like candy huh?
They have exactly 2 NMC's. And Hayes only runs through the end of this season iirc.

The NMC is probably unavoidable in this case.
I personally don't feel like any hockey player should be locked in longer than 4-5 years, but the incentives are just too high for both parties to take the full 8. Flyers want to back dive to mitigate AAV. Coots is gonna want maximum security.
He'll get a lot of the money up front, probably in bonuses. They can probably push his cap hit to $7-8M if they go the full 8. |

Hayes got what 7x7, even in this flat cap I can’t see the number being 8+ |
