Carol Schram: Sizing up the expansion draft landscape; Canucks trade for Jason Richardinson The protection lists are in for the 2021 Seattle Expansion draft. Will the Kraken select Braden Holtby — either to keep or to flip? Or will they go with a less expensive player from Vancouver? Also, the Canucks added to their roster on Saturday by acquiring depth center Jason Richardinson from the Dallas Stars.

Thanks Carol!

CapFriendly updated their Seattle Expansion Draft to include all the protected/unprotected players. Pretty easy to go through and build a team/see what it costs... really quickly skimming through without much research:

Drouin - Johansen - Tarasenko
Domi - Tierny - Bailey
Namestnikov - Kerfoot - Compher
Mathieu Joseph - Bjugstad - Appleton
(Ritchie, Aston-Reese, Athanasiou, Heinen all RFAs)

Butcher - Colin Miller
Ghost - Deangelo
Klefbom LTIR
(Bean and Zadorov RFAs)
(Oleksiak and Hjalmarsson UFAs)

Driedger and Vanecek goalies

This lineup still gives them 13+ mil (17+ with Klefbom on LTIR) to sign a better D and maybe even land Landeskog... and that's not even taking into account whatever side deals will have to happen.

I don't think there's a prayer in hell that Seattle take Holtby. You guys are setting yourselves up for disappointment.
We know they're taking Dreidger. There's a ton of better options available in terms of age, stats, contract status, $$$$, upside, future plans

As I replied in the last thread, liking that Joonas Donskoi from the Avs. Lots of talent to be had.

Price
Driedger
Sorokin
Vanecek
Khakonen
Korpisalo
Grubauer as a UFA

All better options that "Holt-Beast"

Benning missed his opportunity to float Schmidt or Pearson out there to free up some cap and only lose a mediocre player

Ya, there's lots of talent to be had, and lots of options to build a team. Do they take cheaper players to have more cap space for signings/trades? Do they take players they know other teams want to flip them?

The D options aren't great out there, but they could get creative and start flipping players or picks they get to other teams to build their D.

At worst, if they just purely picked players from teams, they're a playoff bubble team. I think they're going to be pretty competitive out of the gate (though not Vegas level).

Yeah, that's a pretty stellar list there. I'm OK with whoever they take. I'd actually rather keep Holtby for the time being. So no disappointment here whether he stays or goes.

Totally.
I’m guessing we lose Lind.
I’m not losing any sleep either way.

I hope the Kraken take Price as their vet goalie.
We can send Holtby to Mtl to back up Jake Allen.

Troy Stecher is getting a lot of play as a possible selection. Back to the region, and he played for Dave Hakstol at North Dakota...

Oh ya, I argued for that as well. It would have been nicer to have better players than Motte to protect, but he's a good player. I think Don was the loudest person going against him

I don't think its stellar but they're better than Holtby. Ideally, they take MacEwen, I think Lind has a higher ceiling and although we lose a much more physical player. Lind, Richardinson and hopefully Gadjo can replace that in the near future.

Kraken can find a player like Zac Mac in the bargain bin if they want.

I imagine they’ll go with the higher ceiling and take someone like Lind.
