It seems like Murray Ates agrees with me on this move and even proposed the same compensation to Buffalo ( Samberg plus a second) in an article that was very similar to the ideas I posted. It also furthers my belief that a physical guy who can play 26-28 minutes a game is what we need and would be good value for the money. I'm in the "take a chance on Risto" camp. Its only a short term experiment anyways.

Don't you think that Risto's "affordability" is exactly why Chevy might be in on him? He won't pull the trigger on "big asks" for better d-men, and he wants players with term, but Risto is the opposite on both fronts. His stock is low, and the price paid for him should be accordingly. Samberg would be a mistake. The 2nd . . . uh, fine, but attach a prospect much further down the depth charts, IMO. Or don't make the deal . . . especially if it's only a 1 year experiment!

And not one expert, insider, analyst fainted over the Kraken NOT taking DeMelo…….almost like it wasn’t a thing outside of the perimeter highway.

No “how could you not take this stud first pairing Dman….even as trade bait”

That is pretty much all I saw from people outside of Winnipeg.

Matt Larkin being the latest one

Just dropping in to say that we have 2 separate #2/3 defencemen on the right side, and arguably 0 NHL defencemen on the left (assuming rookies don’t automatically count, sorry Ville)

Morrissey and Stanley and 2 left side defencemen. I don’t think we really know what we got until there is a major systems change. As long as Uncle Paul has got the keys to the station wagon, we will never really know what our defence is capable of.

I am still hopeful that we can somehow land Hamilton. I would prefer him over Ristolainen. However, I would not be disappointed with Ristolainen. He will get 60 points for sure playing for the Jets, and could be a key cog in keeping the puck in the offensive zone.

It's been said by many, including us, that we need an upgrade on the b-line, especially the right side. IMO we got to make a move for someone. If we don't, we basically go into the season with same d as last year. That doesn't fly.

Don't know who the "Mr X" is that will be brought in, but I think you will see a move, costing us perhaps Copp, a d-man (a prospect?) and a draft choice - all depending on quality and term of secured player(s).

Maybe a winger and d-man coming in same deal? (Buffalo one option?) Poolman still may re-signed as 7th d-man? Kind of hope he is.

I know most everyone from fans and hockey talking heads believe the Jets need at least one upgrade on defense and many think it needs to be a RHD and I don't disagree with any of that line of thinking but my point is idk if the Jets management see it the same way, there's a good chance other then adding Heinola permanently and maybe Samberg the Jets D core will be pretty much the same as it was last year, perhaps the rumored Ristolainen trade was only going to happen if Seattle selected DeMelo but they didn't so that might quash Chevy's thought that he needs to acquire another RHD.

So why not add a player "comparable" to what we have then? (in reference to your initial response.) Seattle is a team with too much of a good thing, and that thing is something we need. Better than adding some team's 7th or 8th defender, who comes in cheap and gives us what we pay for, don't you think?

Furthermore, I would rather roll the dice on Lauzon (who I'm sure has learned some good defensive habits in Boston's system) over a trade to acquire one season of Ristolainen, where we'll probably curse at him endlessly just the same as Buffalo did!

All that being said, if we can somehow add a significant top 4, like you mention, preferably with term . . . that'd be great. But the window to extract from Seattle will close---and maybe in a hurry---so I hope it's not missed and all we end up doing is signing one or two of the "Bitetto's" of the league. Tired of being "Last dog at the bone"!

I guess, really think we see Heinola this year though and with both DeMelo and Stanley both still here along with Morrissey and Pionk plus Maurice will want NateB in the lineup so I wonder if they'll even add a dman.

I keep going back to Ryan Murray, if they really want to add a dman I think he'd be a good addition.

What would Lauzon cost to acquire I wonder?

Ryan Murray is a decent option. A left handed DeMelo in that he is a good pair for a creative offensive D man.

We should not be trading Samberg today

Maybe one of our two 3rd Rounders next season (?) . . . throw in a long-range prospect to get True as well (only to bring more family into the fold!)

I think that the Heiskenan signing the other day for approx $8.5 MM AAV for the next 8 years really sets the high bar for a top-notch mobile offensive Dman. I don't think Chevy would have to pay more than that for pretty much anybody including Hamilton . The Jets can creatively afford that price IMHO. Let's just something done.
