We thought the same thing with Tavares in NYI...
- Retinalz

Hes been a ppg player since joining the Leafs. He's been good for them. The Islanders roster without tavares can't be compared to the Sabres roster without eichel, two very different teams

If the lightning lost Stamkos tomorrow, they would still be the best team in the league

What would the Oilers give us for Schmidt?

I'd ask for a 2nd round pick at minimum

What if they lost Vasy, Point or Hedman?

What if the Isles lost Barzal, Pulock or Pelech or Trotz?

Tavares is overpaid for the impact he brings to an organization

Schmidt to CBL for Domi (saves a little cap too) I think Domi rebounds this year with the right team

I'd rather tavares and his 11 mill aav for 82 points a season than LE and Beagle for 9.5 mil aav to sit in the press box and net 10 points per 82.

And yes, if islander or lightning lost a different player, they would still be elite.

Lightning were a top team in the league without kucherov the entire season.

Eichel makes any team in the NHL better while being on it. He's an unbelievable player.
- Codes1087

Less about the player and more about the size of the contract - clearly he is a good player but at $10M he needs to pull his team into the fight and the win column

Where’s the threshold for a player needing to pull his team into the fight and win column? Like at $6m he can just go about his business but at $7.5m he needs to do more? Just trying to understand who’s worth their $ and who isn’t.

True but what about term? JT for four more years at $11M or blah & blah at $9M for one more season. I wouldn't want any of them so would rather suffer for one more season.

True, and now the Isles have gone further than the Leafs every year
- Nucker101

And further than they ever did with him.

Depends on position, etc. but at $10M, as the #1 centre he is either driving the bus or he isn't...if he isn't, then you get the Sabres.

What do they add? IMO Shmidt is traded in a deal that gives us what we need to replace. Only moved because he wants out.

Seattle should have taken Trenin from Nashville. Plays an all around game and this:

I liked the trade for Edmonton, at that time. I take a solid defender over a one dimensional offensive player, all day long.
If I had my way, I would have a roster of 23 defensive specialists.😁

- Reubenkincade

Agreed. At that time Larsson was one win away from the conference finals and Hall was golfing. Would have been nice for EDM to keep him but losing him is not the end of the world.

I think the rumors are true that Holtby is gone, we need MDP. No idea who Gavrikov is but it seems like they still add. Domi is at an all-time low for value.

A roster player and our top goaltending prospect for a player who was their 7th dman last year and a player they exposed in the draft in hopes to be rid of. Would be a terrible trade for us

Losing Hedman would be a pretty sizable blow.
