Eberle says it would be exciting to bring the Cup to a city that has never had it . Actually Jordan, on said cup, you’ll find the Seattle Metropolitans.

How did Seattle not leverage any side deals. I don't get it. Seems like a massive miss for a new team
- Codes1087

haha What leveraging was there to make??

"oh please don't take Cholowski from us!!"
"Not Morgan Geekie, how will we ever rebound from this loss?"
"Vince Dunn? noooooooooo, We're done."

It would have been some much funnier if they had stepped up and said Jake Virtanen

Larsen and Oleksiak are good - Gio best days are long, long past him and other than that it's a ton mediocrity. I'm not convinced.
- Brooks_Light

Lauzon and Dunn were very good last year in top4 roles. Not sexy names, but good young players.

They had the other guys there.
Maybe they look at the Oilers and think the best we can do is take Larssen , with the agent being involved, sign to what they want and now go to the rumored landing spot and say we want a first + for him , signed and sealed

Leverage was not bailing out teams & still the offseason to use.

Team looks better than I thought they would.

8 forwards score over .40 ppg last season. Canucks had 5.

Didn't pick a PP QB defensemen. I guess that could be Vince Dunn.

They pretty much lack an entire top line.

A very half finished roster at this point in time.

The 3 goalies they chose have a combined 68 games NHL experience. (regular season)
MAF had 115 games of post season experience when he joined Vegas.

The leverage was “supposed to be” to take said player (Geekie) and receive compensation for NOT taking other player.

Maybe GM’s actually learned a lesson?

True, but remember Vegas’ lottery draft? I remember at the time people were laughing at the selections… and how did it all turn out? Four straight winning seasons. Four straight playoff appearances. Just saying.

6. Cody Eakin C Dallas Stars
8. Jonathan Marchessault C Florida Panthers
9. Brayden McNabb D Los Angeles Kings
12. Pierre-Edouard Bellemare RW Philadelphia Flyers
15. James Neal LW Nashville Predators
16. Deryk Engelland D Calgary Flames
8. Colin Miller D Boston Bruins
19. Marc Methot D Ottawa Senators
21. David Perron LW St. Louis Blues
6. Erik Haula C Minnesota Wild
27. William Karlsson C Columbus Blue Jackets
29. Marc-Andre Fleury G Pittsburgh Penguins
30. Nate Schmidt D Washington Capitals

Some legit goal scorers on that team and a bunch of players that had been trending up. Solid defence and a world class goalie.
I see non of that on Seattle other than Eberle, Gourde (*we'll see how he does now that he's not on the best team on earth) and____________ who else??? Donskoi, Appleton???

They still have an opportunity to sign UFA’s and make trades, so I’d say you’re right, an unfinished roster.

Trades can't be announced yet apparently.

"Any trades Seattle may have in the hopper will be finalized and announced after the trade freeze is lifted at 1 pm ET Thursday. And I suspect there will be a few over the coming days.

Yesterday @ 3:28 PM ET
Thanks Carol. Francis has said he believes cap space is the most important part to a team. That sounds like he's not interested in taking on salary dumps so he can go after top UFA's in their prime. He can outbid everyone for Hamilton, Landy, Hall etc. and trade for Laine/Jones to give them big deals.

Yeah Mini they'll add more. Plus the side deal trades get announced after 1pm tomorrow. But look for internet leaks.

There is one thing about Vegas that I think has stopped them from getting over the hump. They don't have a legit #1 centre. They haven't been able to get one.

Glass was a fail.

Wonder if Seattle runs into the same problem. There isn't a legit one in this draft. A very good one in Beniers might be available.

So they were allowed to talk trade with Seattle and make trade but can't announce trade.

Come on. Hindsight is wonderful but only three forwards had scored more than 15 goals the season prior to being picked by Vegas. Who are your “legit” scorers from that expansion draft? Neal, Marchessault, and Perron? At the time nobody was scared of that trifecta.

If Seattle finds success in its first season will be the result of a good systems and solid coaching just like Vegas’. Time will tell.

When you say “getting over the hump” does that mean winning a cup? They are four seasons old. Before that, according to nhl.com, it takes an average of 11.9 years for an expansion team to make a cup final.

You call Vegas’ situation “a problem”. I think they are a resounding success and I’m jealous as hell after watching my team flounder for 50+ years.
