Wasn’t the list required by 10am?? - Jup16
Yes.
There are too many reputable people reporting the same names. |

Not even close to Buffalo. Its actually a pretty decent team. Some picks I dont like but a lot of young talent that should surprise people - xShoot4WarAmpsx
Agreed, and there are still 4 teams remaining. If this is their roster, they are going to be a decent team out of the gate. |

If all of these rumors are true, I'm actually glad. The NHL and their billionaire owners deserve what they get. They somehow convinced the NHLPA to vote in favor of a hard cap to protect themselves from themselves and now they're angry because Francis is playing them? Cap ruined the game, IMO. Can't even recall off the top of my head when any team in the NHL "bought" a Cup through free agency when there wasn't a cap. And yes, I'm salty. Not because I begrudge billionaires for being billionaires (good for them), but because they made the best the sport in the world not fun, IMO. - daddytc
You think you have 32 teams, a huge ESPN TV deal w/o the salary cap? You think you'd have 600M pay-ins for Vegas or Seattle? You think Carolina, Nashville, Florida would have gotten a chance to get their poop together before relocating/folding?
No way.
And lets be real... Flyers, Rangers and Leafs still wouldn't be able to win without the cap. |

I’m curious to see if that Jake-Tarasenko rumor actually has legs. I also hope Seattle doesn’t take a random person like Rubstov. Would prefer it’s someone that helps us some cap on them. - arichardson22
Doesn’t mean St Louis and Flyers can’t make a deal still. |

St Louis wanted a 3 team deal to make cap room for Landeskog. They don’t want Jake. |

Yeah, if they manage to get another top-six C, it's a good team.

If all these leaked picks are true, there’s still many trade possibilities Seattle can make with just about any team. They’ll have all the leverage with their cap space and will have plenty of trade options to make the best possible roster. I just have to think Flyers, St Louis and other teams with older guys with term and high cap it will line up trying to convince Seattle to take on x or y player. |

Just read the Patrick transcript from his first interview since being traded. Can anyone answer why he wanted out of here so badly?! Seriously, no BS response because it seems to me that the Flyers supported him in every medical way possible and he seems to be projecting like he wanted out by any means necessary for whatever reason. Either he is an ungrateful, entitled little wiener or he had some sort of falling out with the franchise for whatever reason. - HockeyLifer
Maybe he thought he was ready to play at some point and management held him out. |

I don’t see Voracek going to St. Louis. The space to take on that contract is what made it make sense with Seattle.
They can’t fit Tarasenko now without that cap space.
Doesn’t mean they can’t make any other side deals to open it up. |

I’m preparing myself emotionally for losing coots.
Bill if you’re reading this tell me I’m crazy. Tell me coots loves it here.
Tell me I’m crazy for being worried about fletch as our gm. The the wild fiasco was a fluke. Tell me I should just worry about my short game and the team will be fine… just fine… just fine…. Just fine… (office reference)

So looks like only teams missing selections are Chicago and Detroit.
My guess:
Adam Gaudette (CHI)
Evgeny Svechnikov or Dennis Cholowski (DET) |

If they didn't install the cap and gain some cost certainty .. there would be no NHL to talk about today! This is really not looking at the entire picture here. - jd250
Is there a hard cap in the KHL, SEL, etc? I'm not trying to be a smart ass, I really don't know and I'm too lazy to research it. If the only way an entire league can exist is through a hard cap, maybe the league shouldn't be.
And how did the NHL survive from 1st expansion in '67 until the cap was implemented?
Red Barons & Golden Seals folded? Flames moved to Calgary? And yet somehow the league survived.

Def the NHL. Francis decided to play the cap game instead of icing a competitive team. Bettman has to be fuming. - hereticpride
Bettman got the owners a HALF a BILLION DOLLARS! I am not sure that he is upset about how the team is being constructed. He may be upset about the first airings of the league on espn though, and its not like the draft is on espn -- it is on espn two -- the nhl is still a red-headed stepchild to Disney |

GM's ought to freeze out Francis when he comes looking for trades to strengthen his roster....drive prices down by not dealing with him and getting them desperate to find some talent if they are going to take this approach. - juiced
that would be collusion |

Consider the source. Even Ant said it was speculation based on the interview with Fletcher not something he’d heard. |

|
|
This was always a strong possibility especially if Fletcher wasn’t cutting a deal. I may be alone here, but I am fine with losing Twarynski. I would have been a little upset if it had been Bunnaman, I still think he can become a useful contributor and is more versatile being able to play center. I’d even keep Bunnaman over NAK. And I think it’s fine to keep JVR.
It will be interesting to see if any trades are in the works right away now. I would think Fletcher still needs to save some cap dollars.

Exactly my point. You can't buy your way to a Cup according to history, so who exactly does it protect? Players? Fans? The sport itself?
Have 32 teams made the game better? Has that $600m franchise fee made the game better? Made your tickets any cheaper? How about the ESPN deal?
Carolina, Nashville & Miami can't support a team? Was there a hard cap when any of those teams had their expansion draft?
And notice I keep saying "hard cap" lik in my original post. What is the argument for not having a luxury tax? |

Proving collusion is a female dog.
That said I think the GMs around the league are looking at what Francis did today and probably holding the same opinion.
No one expected Francis to put himself in cap hell but he sure could’ve added more talent than he did.
As it stands right now who is the Captain on that roster if they’re moving Gio? (frank)ing Jordan Eberle? |

KHL has a cap. Think the max contract is $1.5M or something like that but top players probably get a lot of money under the table.
Don't think the other Euro leagues have caps, but salaries are pretty low. Like well under $500k for top players. |

if they still bring in tarasenko is it jake or JVR that should be involved? I think with JVR you have the better player and contract. Maybe work a 3 way trade where someone can hold cap.
Jake being pass first would be ok with a healthy Tarasenko. |

I think Tarasenko is out of the equation right now. Rumor was St Louis wanted to move him for cap room to go after Landeskog. They aren’t interested in Jake or JVR. |
