Most people were thinking worst case scenario Seattle takes Braun only freeing up minimal cap space. They don't even do that they take an RFA. Can't make it up. - PLindbergh31
Just sign coots to that long term big $ deal and all will be fine |

People shat all over Vegas too when they announced their picks. - atibus
Bingo.
Before the draft nobody gave a (frank) about Marchessault, Karlsson, Smith, Haula, etc. Some guys just need an opportunity. Seattle took a lot of guys who are capable of being something.
And the absolute worst thing they could have done was try to assemble the 2010 NHL All-Star team w/ their picks. |

No one else is going to eat Jakes contract. Seattle was the best chance of that happening. - hereticpride
maybe read what I wrote again, there is a way to move him. He has value as a top 6 winger. JVR can be moved also.

I read it correctly. With a flat cap you aren’t finding a way to move their entire contract to facilitate a trade for Tarasenko. No team is taking that on right now. |

MAF was a meme at the time (OK he still is, lol).
James Neal was already in steep decline. |

Don't forget how stupid Vegas was for NOT taking Vatanen or Manson and instead trading for Shea Theodore + taking Clayton Stoner. So stupid of them.

Off to plan b and the only plan that was /is realistic. Retain salary to move Jake Jvr. |

Tells you what expansion teams think of Flyers unprotected high ticket players. - PLindbergh31
Doesnt tell us anything. They have specifically avoided all teams big contract players. Francis is just pulling out his balls and laying them on the table for the other GMs to see

Detroit is going to be a player as well. Maybe not for Jake but they will take on a few salaries for assets.

I think there’s still a chance that when Francis said cap room was their biggest asset, he meant it. Just because no big contracts were lost now doesn’t mean the plan wasn’t to draft a very inexpensive team and have the cap room to take on other deals. The actual team could look very different. I imagine a scenario like Charlie Day at the board trying to connect players with teams and being the 3rd team in a ton of 3-team trades. |

MAF was benched in the playoffs and lost his job to a rookie. His contract was an albatross to all of the pundits. Pittsburgh paid Vegas a 2nd round pick to take him. |

I’ve never thought of this before but I think Jake could actually fit in well with Detroit. |

That’s a total exaggeration. How many really good, high profile, large contract guys were not selected today? Francis has a vision. I personally don’t like it, but I was wrong about Vegas so I’ll hold off on evaluating their selections. |

But he was at least a proven player at the time with hardware. Neal too.
This roster as is I’m supposed to buy in on Jordan Eberle and a bunch of maybes? |

Gio is a Norris winner. Gourde's got multiple Cups.
Guessing Lou paid them to take Eberle. |

it has tons of RFA/UFA's for next year too. he seems to be weaponizing available cap space for the future signing of FA's so maybe they are taking a tank team, trying to win the right to draft Shane Wright and then sign a ton of FA's next year.

Trades the ED aren’t being around till tonight. So you might see something like Carolina send Seattle a 2nd which would explain why they didn’t take Bean etc. |
