Trades the ED aren’t being around till tonight. So you might see something like Carolina send Seattle a 2nd which would explain why they didn’t take Bean etc.

Apparently no side deal in place. Looked like Francis targeted Geekie.

it has tons of RFA/UFA's for next year too. he seems to be weaponizing available cap space for the future signing of FA's so maybe they are taking a tank team, trying to win the right to draft Shane Wright and then sign a ton of FA's next year.

True. My only point is the Kraken have season ticket holders already and if I was one I would’ve liked to see him take one proven guy to really build around. It seems like Francis just went wild hoarding cap room. I’m sure he’ll make a move at the draft or in UFA. I was just expecting something a little more than this for the ED

Doesnt tell us anything. They have specifically avoided all teams big contract players. Francis is just pulling out his balls and laying them on the table for the other GMs to see

Taking Twarynski who isn't even an NHL player really shows balls alright.

Gio is going to the Rags by all reports. Also he’s 37.

Dunno, we'll see. Vegas also flipped a bunch of their selections too. Neal wasn't in Vegas for very long. A lot of the guys Seattle took are very very tradable.

Wouldn't the Flyers love Lauzon or Appleton?

This was always a strong possibility especially if Fletcher wasn’t cutting a deal. I may be alone here, but I am fine with losing Twarynski. I would have been a little upset if it had been Bunnaman, I still think he can become a useful contributor and is more versatile being able to play center. I’d even keep Bunnaman over NAK. And I think it’s fine to keep JVR.

It will be interesting to see if any trades are in the works right away now. I would think Fletcher still needs to save some cap dollars.

Voracek or Ghost?

Funny because I actually liked Carsen over Bunny. But I am also fine with the loss.

Im with you....I expected he would take Bailey over Eberle and Bean or Neiderriter, etc. I love Gourde but the look pretty weak down the middle, especially as it remains to be seen if he is a 2C...or if he's a spot play 2C better suited to remain a strong 3C.

They have 5 really solid top 4 defenseman plus a ton of younger defenseman to develop. They also have speed, grit and toughness. Yes they don't seem to have that superstar scorer, but this will come over time. Remember they have the 2nd pick in the draft also. But so far, I really like their team.

Officially the draft hasn't even "happened" yet. There will be trades. Plus entry draft is right behind this. Lots of moving pieces. Deep breaths... Doubt they will leak any possible trades prior to the official draft show. Well, I wouldn't put money on it but I think it will be interesting.

No way they walk out there and simply announce this team...

It would be worse than "Battle of the Network Stars"...

See, that’s the thing to me. Ignoring the Flyers end of it just look at that Seattle roster. Not a lot of proven goal scorers from what I see. Why not go JVR there? It’s not like he’s on a 6 year deal.

Fans don’t show up to games because you win the cap battle.

yeah i don't mind it. it's unfortunate some cap didn't come off the books, but as for losing the player, it isn't much of a loss.

I would have done the same thing Francis did. Cap space is a commodity why just give it away?
The question is can GM’s hold the line for their teams with buying cap relief by doing something stupid.
If Ron where to call and I was Chuck and starting with crazy talk trades to take say Jake or JVR I’d say no you had an opportunity to take either.
Now it’s about hockey trades.
If you want JVR we will give you Jake our 1st for your 1st then hang up.

B/c you can still land that kind of player via trade. 2/3 of the league is capped out. Expansion did nothing for most of those teams. Why should Seattle settle for JVR when better options will be made available?

It does..... Flyers dont have the space to add FAs. To get room, we need to trade with Seattle because they are the only team thats going to take cap without giving cap back. Francis want something from the Flyers whether it be a prospect or out 1st round pick

Agreed. But I do feel the trades will be interesting. We are unloading Jake to some team. Ghost is gone. Hopefully this all gets done at the draft.

I read it correctly. With a flat cap you aren’t finding a way to move their entire contract to facilitate a trade for Tarasenko. No team is taking that on right now.
- hereticpride

who said they would take the entire cap?

That’s pretty optimistic. They’ve been trying to deal Ghost for how long now. No one wants Jakes contract so we aren’t unloading him anywhere without eating substantial cap space.

It seems to me that the sweetener for Jake would have to be significant for the Kraken to take him. A #13 pick will not be enough, or even close. Eberle and Giordano are much cheaper, and have less term. If they wanted Ghost they would have picked him.

In summary, Jake and Ghost will very likely not be salary dumps. Either salary will come back or significant $ retained.

The collective anguish from all 30 fanbases is hilarious. Everybody expected Seattle to swoop in and happily solve all their cap quandaries for them.

3 way trade, you trade to the Yotes add a sweetener, they retain salary and send to Blues, the Blues send to Flyers. Not sure if possible but I guess the Blues could even trade Tarasenko to someone else and that team retain salary then send to Philly.

Not saying that is what they should do or what the cost would be, but there is a way.

Yeah, way too early to pass judgement.

It's not just that they can still be players in free agency and the trade market, but in drafting 30 players, they are picking more than an NHL team. Some of today's picks are intended for their farm system.
