That’s pretty optimistic. They’ve been trying to deal Ghost for how long now. No one wants Jakes contract so we aren’t unloading him anywhere without eating substantial cap space.
- hereticpride

I agree. I wasn't implying that we would be happy with whatever trades are made for those two. I think we have to eat some of Jake's salary. Hopefully Ghost is part of a package or a mid-round pick. More of a statement that I don't believe they start the season in Philly.

It's not just that they can still be players in free agency and the trade market, but in drafting 30 players, they are picking more than an NHL team. Some of today's picks are intended for their farm system.
- Stanley Cup

Yet people on this website act as if they have a game on Thursday. This place has almost become unbearable

The collective anguish from all 30 fanbases is hilarious. Everybody expected Seattle to swoop in and happily solve all their cap quandaries for them.

Seattle: nope

- Tomahawk

I think people might be mistaken about the pressures the Kraken management face. There is a dormant hockey market there. The season tickets sold out long ago. They don't have to sell the sport. They don't have to contend right away, just not to fall into a BUF style tailspin.

The owners are highly savvy, with one having very extensive sports management experience, and another a movie producer. Not a corporation buying the team for downstream programming like us or inherited money type.

Hard nosed, hands on businessmen. The owners knew exactly what the strategy was today, what its implications are for the future, and signed off on it.

It may be that neither are moved.

I can see a Tarasenko for Jake + significant sweetener move. But no major UFA signings.

Vegas surprised all the GMs with what they were able to pull off...No way Seattle is able to do that...oh wait..they did

“Ed was pretty ill the last couple years,” Scott said. “I’ve stayed pretty close to it and I’ve got all the confidence in the world with Paul (Holmgren) as president and Ron (Hextall) as general manager. I think we all have a job to do here. My job is really to make sure we have the resources and we’re investing in the team for the long term and go for the Cup. The Flyers are going to go for it every year. That’s our heritage.”

Sooo... is this the smoking gun? Bolded seems to me to be corporate-speak.

Told you folks all along there was no way Seattle was taking JVR or Jake..why would they? Their contracts are totally undesireable and unless Fletch was willing to sweeten the pot they werent getting picked plain and simple. Add to that I also felt that Hakstol wasnt going to do the Flyers any favors by taking a salary. Thought they would at least take HAGG but taking a non rostered guy gives Flyers no cap relief at all. Has gone totally as expected. JVR and Jake are not moveable contracts unless Fletch is willing to eat $$ or sweeten the pot for someone. Now what...You have Jake coming back when he knows he isnt wanted. Should have included that 1st round pick to unload him and use those $$ for someone who will help the team. UGLY but lets see how Fletch fixes this mess

Exactly right....they have a huge waiting list for season tickets. Frances is doing the right thing to make them really competitive in a few yrs and be able to sustain being a contender..CAP $$ IS KING

I want to play poker with most of you. You'd fold before the flop if you didn't have pocket aces.

Doesnt tell us anything. They have specifically avoided all teams big contract players. Francis is just pulling out his balls and laying them on the table for the other GMs to see

We have 3 players to sign and 12M in cap space. I'm not freaking out over cap here. That said, I don't think Fletcher is done. Do I think it should be watched, sure... But not freaking out...
I mean it's not like we have the lightning's negative cap or anything...

Dunno, we'll see. Vegas also flipped a bunch of their selections too. Neal wasn't in Vegas for very long. A lot of the guys Seattle took are very very tradable.

Wouldn't the Flyers love Lauzon or Appleton?

- Tomahawk

I don't know much about Appleton but Lauzon will be missed in Boston, he played really well for them.

Yeah, this isn't Vegas where they have to hype the goal of winning a Cup in 5 years to get people to step away from the slot machine for a few mins.

Seattle's had NHL in the past. People will drive down from Canada. And frankly there's nothing to do there (sober) except cry about how expensive it is to live there, complain that you literally haven't seen the sun in weeks or go watch some douchebags throw a fish around at the market.

no, no, CF's only plan was if Jake, JVR or Ghost were taken. He is now done.

Boy, did the pandemic help their strategy or what? Imagine coming into the league at a random time and suddenly a business strategy is essentially gifted to you by fate because so many teams are over-committed.
