What I’m talking about is mixing the chemistry which enables winning and would then change the culture of underachieving which I’m some aspects can be pinned on the core. We always seem to find a way to come up small. Maybe it’s the chemistry as you mention but maybe it’s more.

I think we're really in agreement. Make the team better. Get the right fit of players and win some games. That will take care of any perceived "culture" issue.

Edmonton is currently working on re-signing Barrie.

I love the idea of trading a playmaker for a shooter. Just don't know about Tarasenko's health. Now see that's changing the mix of the team. Not a culture change. They need to make hockey moves. This "culture" issue is overblown.

Hardly replacements…not where I was going…..but the $ is there. Barrie is looking for 5 + years on term…Edmonton so far has balked…maybe it gets done, not a given. Maybe Ghost at his 2 years left would be a better fit.

By my rule of thumb I would guess Jake is a 4.5-4.75 m player now given the age, points and years remaining. So, either we:

1. Trade $ for $
2. Hold back about $3.5m
3. Part with a first rounder AND 1 more decent prospect to bring about a trade.

or of course some combination of 2 and 3.

I wonder why they couldn’t just do a Jake for Gaudreau swap. Calgary was rumored to be shopping him before. Both teams could use a change. Talent wise it’s a pretty fair swap.

Sure Jake has two more years but Calgary really doesn’t have much money/years tied up in anyone long term to the point it would be an issue for them.

See, I’m not biting your head off but I ignore these comments on purpose. It was one bad season by two player on a team where everyone underachieved, including Carter Hart. It’s apart of development and growing pains. I doubt either guy has a mirror image of last season no matter where they play.

MTL seems to have some major holes to fill, not to mention the Suzuki extension which looks like it's gonna be pretty expensive. They don't look like a salary dumping ground to me.

I really think you don't get rid of any of our bigger contracts w/o taking equal (or more) money and/or term back. Tarasenko we've covered. Jon Quick, Lucic, RyJo, OEL, Henrique, anybody on the Sharks lol, Bishop, Zucker, Tyler Johnson... that's the variety of fecal matter that CF's gonna have to be willing to eat to swing a deal.

And frankly, I'd rather them just hang on to Jake/JVR/Ghost than bark up any of those trees.
