Entry draft tomorrow night, and free agency begins July 28. We will have an idea of what the Flyers roster is going to look like by early August. If it's simply just adding Ellis to last years roster it's not going to fly.

Then Fletch is going to have to pony up assets and retain salary because unless he can unload one of JVR..JK and to a lesser extent GHOST he has no $$ to play the game and this is your roster.

What he did was brilliant. He knows how desperate many teams are and Kraken are some teams only option. Look at Flyers if they want to unload JVR or JV there is no place to go other then Seattle. Not a team in the league taking on either contract. They will sign some UFA and get guys like JVR anyway with picks and assets added. A game of chicken that Francis will win.

There's more places to go besides Seattle. Minnesota, Arizona, Detroit etc..... Other teams want to make some moves too. Could see minnesota making a deal. I think they need more talent up front. Too bad about their buyout cap hit the next couple years.

Didn’t get rid of any salary in the ED. Does that mean they’re going to have to give up their first pick just to get someone to pickup one of their big contracts?

Likely...been saying it all along JV and a 1st..free up that 8.25M . Its worth it. A sour JV coming back knowing they dont want him is even worse then the JV we have seen last couple of years. If he played no D before imagine now.

I think this completely ignores teams that are having trouble drawing players. Columbus is losing tons of salary with FA moving on and FA's ignoring their offers. Soon they may be in a position where their best bet is to trade for some quality top 9 talent with term just so they can support their core and prospect development.

Detroit has also shown a willingness to take on salary and term.

This is not a one stop shop situation despite Seattle being in the best and most publicized position to do so.

Detroit will take on some salary and term but you are going to pay in a big way...guys like Yzerman and Francis know they have some GMs over the barrell and will extort all they can. They hold all the cards

LA, Anaheim, San Jose and some other teams mentioned are in the soft rebuild phase as they have a lot of young prospects as well....young prospects need veteran leadership and support to develop (in most cases).

Your statement on Detroit and Seattle makes the point that prices can be driven down...say CF has an offer from Seattle to take on Jake but he has to include a first, ,maybe he shops that deal to a Detroit and says the first is too rich, would they do it for a second. not saying it will be the case....but it seems like there is a whole lot of black and white going on and very little discussion of the grey

Maybe he didnt want to come to Philly? Obviously he knew his options
- hfc355

Yes, maybe he wanted to live in the Seattle area. But this to me was tough to swallow because Larsson was the guy that I felt slotted perfectly in our 2nd pairing role. Hopefully CF can get Savard or make a trade for another defenseman because IMO we still have a gaping hole there, and I don't want to go into next season without that filled. Ellis is a nice player, but he is not enough to fix the backend.
