Not a bad deal. We could have done that.
- arichardson22

Wonder what level of interest the flyers had if any? Clearly he choose to go there over others.

Just read the Patrick transcript from his first interview since being traded. Can anyone answer why he wanted out of here so badly?! Seriously, no BS response because it seems to me that the Flyers supported him in every medical way possible and he seems to be projecting like he wanted out by any means necessary for whatever reason. Either he is an ungrateful, entitled little wiener or he had some sort of falling out with the franchise for whatever reason.
- HockeyLifer

He is a member of the hockeybuzz community and saw what Flyer fans thought of him?

The sterling track record of the organization and concussions?

Mommy and Daddy wanted him closer to home?

His brain is scrambled and he can not think clearly?

If the Kraken are expressing interest in Rubstov its just them trying to get leverage against the Flyers for a trade imo. No way they actually waste a selection on him.
- hereticpride

I think Marty Biron said the same thing on NHL radio yesterday but pertaining to Tampa. Francis calls and says we are taking the lowest salaried guy you have unless you give us assets to take a higher priced guy

very true. but injuries are something that can happen to anyone....just think on the bright side. at least its' a bunch of LITR maybe we can use at the deadline lol
- Wingdestroyer

If the bright side is a higher likelihood of a guy ending up on LTIR and team missing out on expected production, I’m not sure how much of a bright side that ends up being. You’re bringing in VT to replace JV and be a consistent goal scorer, not for the small savings on the cap and one less year.

Honestly looks like Seattle is taking a FWD. I dont See Ghost, Hagg or Braun being selected with guys like:

Fleury
Clifton
Bean
C.Miller
J.Mccabe
Zadorov
EJ
Staal
Butcher
Pettersson
Dunn
Foote
Edler

They are signing the d from Dallas so they will not need a d

Larrson 4x4 with the krack
- wcorvette

Drat!!! Dam it!! Why the hell would Larsson want to play for an expansion team? Well, Fletcher better have a better deal up his sleeve, because if Larsson was open to playing here, I was hoping Fletcher would get him. Larsson went for exactly what thought he was worth, and actually lower than I thought he would get because I figured several teams would be in on him.

Did some digging, it looks like Larsson wanted to play for Seattle, and took less money to do so. Well, good for him, he is playing where he wanted to play.

My issue with management isn’t necessarily management’s fault. The trade for Ryan Ellis is the perfect example. I like Ryan Ellis. I grew up in Windsor and watched him play juniors there. He was both Captain of the Windsor Spitfires and world junior Canadian team. He hung out at my local restaurant/bar, so I saw him a few times. Seems like he carries himself respectfully. My issue is years of being told to be patient and we’re going young by Hextall. Making less deals. Just to go in the opposite direction under Fletcher. We gave up two very young talents before their careers began. If Fletcher is going for it, the next move better be a big one that helps the present and the future.
- SuperSchennBros

Hate to lose young talents but this was always part of the plan, at some point they were going to flip youngens for key pieces. Can we debate it is the right time or the right trade? Sure, but it was always part of the plan

Hakstol has a rep for roster building? Really? I know he was a college coach, but in his time with the Flyers I don't think he built much a reputation in general, especially around roster building.
- jd250

I agree with you. Hakstol took UND to 7 Frozen Fours in 11 years and roster building and player development were his forte. The GM builds the roster in the NHL so a coach has a limited role in that.

Hakstol is getting in on the ground floor with the Kraken so it’s logical that he has a significant input on roster construction. The fact that Francis hired him suggests that they aren’t following the Vegas model of putting emphasis on immediate success.

Hakstol was an exceptional college coach but I think he still has to prove himself as an NHL coach.

I'm thrilled with this trade, and I totally respect Ellis's candor, but it's pretty clear he's not enthusiastic about coming to Philly. Hope his mind changes over time.
I moved my family three years ago to change jobs, and it's been a hundred times harder on them than I ever imagined. Makes it really hard to say, "Oh yeah, we love it here!" to those who grew up here.

even with all the D available to draft, I still think Ghost is their best option for a high offense PP point D

he's not old and his contract isn't a burden

Lol dude couldn’t stop mentioning how much of an out of the blue shock it was and how much he was still “processing it”.

He’ll definitely be fine once he starts skating with the new team but certainly is shell shocked.

I think he will also appreciate how much the fans embrace a player of his caliber….hopefully he launches into “gotta get a #94 jersey” status soon!

Imo you have to stretch what he said in order to get the idea that he doesn’t want to come to Philly.
When you don’t know a thing about an area or organization of course you’ll have questions.

What information do you have that Gostisbehere seems to he a pariah throughout the league?
- MJL

I spend my time shuttling between Minny and California and get out to the games and talk hockey with my contacts. That’s 4 hockey markets. A small sample size admittedly. Ghost has a poor reputation throughout those markets.

Ghost had a terrific college career and was good in his rookie season largely due to his coach managing his matchups and giving him much ozone time. But he had a bad sophomore season and hasn’t grown as a player. He did put up big points in 17-18 but I think much was due to playing alongside Provorov.

Ghost is one dimensional and is a gaffe machine much like Gustaffson(MTL) and Subban. Ghost was waived and cleared waivers. Many people commenting here want him gone. Calling him a pariah is brutal but it’s brutal honesty.

I think it's going to be JVR picked tonight. I know that they will try and fleece Fletcher to sweeten things up, but I honestly think that JVR was good enough last season that they'll be ok with his contract or barring that pick him up and trade him immediately. No one wants anything to do with our D. No one.

Completely agree that it’s strategy. In their war room they said let’s make the sweat. Pick a random prospect and say we’ll take them unless you give us picks and young players to take someone like Jake

He literally did exactly this in his first press conference that Bill kindly put up for us to view. Read the transcript of Ellis correcting the media and saying wtf are you guys even talking about basically. Media is trash and has zero standards
- Richieattack18

I was referring to the time since his injury, through LTIR and then return and playoffs.

Either Preds/Ellis both did not want to clarify (because of strategic reasons perhaps) or they couldn't (due to NHL injury protocols). Under the circumstances, it is virtually impossible to find the truth, even if a news organization decided to devote time and energy to it (which it never will on such small potatoes in today's age when they are so resource strapped).

How did the initial report come out that it was a shoulder? Who knows? Maybe it was speculation/bad reporting/a misinformed team source. Maybe the Preds planted it. Point is, once it was out, there is no way to verify/contradict it without expending a lot of resources that no one will expend at this stage.

In summary, I see no evidence of some widespread media malaise here in the remotest. I see a fair bit of evidence of lazy, uninformed, and unreasonable finger pointing though.

Exactly, what was he supposed to be thrilled he has to uproot his family from the place he’s been for his entire career. It’s an uneasy feeling not knowing where you are going to live and what your next steps are.
