it wouldn't be the worst move Holland made. That bar was set last week with the Keith trade. - Only_A_Ladd
While I think Holland is a moron, I believe Chiarelli made so many avoidable blunders it would have been challenging for even a good GM to fix the roster. Holland hasn't demonstrated any front office competency in over a decade so why he was hired in the first place should be questioned. |

Haha I applaud the attempt, but Larsson's defensive role can certainly not be replaced by that overpaid liability. P.K. is good for 25 points, many undisciplined minor pims, and no regard for his d-pairing. He is untradable. Hence why the Kraken took Bastian over P.K 50% retained. Not sure what Mike Reilly or David Savard will command but they will certainly be far cheaper to acquire while filling that void. Assuming Broberg, Bouchard, Bear, Keith, potentially Barrie, Nurse, Russell all can't fill those voids... - bikeguy99
SSSHHH! I wasn't talking to you I was reaching out to Holland. There is a chance.... |

this year was their first chance to really start to get out of some of those mistakes and Holland went and (frank)ed it all up almost immediately. |

He didn't (frank) it up, he (frank)ed his chances of ever getting another NHL GM job and the Oilers for at least 2 years immediately.

So Keith has now cost them Jones, a 3rd (possibly 2nd), and Larsson.
Needless to say it won't be a 2nd with how poopty this roster is lining up to be. |

It seems entirely likely that Larsson simply decided to leave of his own accord. You don't need to blame everything on the Keith trade. |

Now would be a great time for Holland to pull a reverse Lou and suddenly Kelfs recovery is expedited to being ready this fall.
We have had 2 brutal poffs back to back, and Adam wore the A. I am not pointing the finger at him, but at the same time its not acceptable and a culture shake up is ok. Maybe Keith can mentor bouchard and broberg/lagesson but thats asking for a lot of stretch from Rookies. If that is the case, our cupboards are pretty bare beyond that. I wonder if Suter would be willing to look at a Barrie contract to pump the tires prior to likely his last contract? Would require an overpayment but if Bouchard takes over on PP i would rather go that route than spend the money an term on Barrie. |

I wouldn't expect Bouchard to take over the pp just yet, didn't he have a hard time cracking the Oilers roster last year? |

I’d use edmondson’s 4x3.5 which was considered a bit of an overpayment at the time a comparable for Larson so if 4x4 is what it took it’s not a terrible thing.
As far as replacement goes savard could now become an intriguing option. Similar player coming off a down year in a flat cap could get the oilers a good deal for him. |

He played well when up but last year was an odd roster year as he likely should have been in the AHL most of the year vs the taxi squad given his usage. With Barrie on the 1st pp and getting sheltered 5on 5 minutes, it makes it harder for a guy like bouchard to get minutes as they are already sheltering 1 pairing. I hope that was the case as otherwise I would question Tippets decision to play Russel over any of them.

Exactly. My understanding is Holland makes $5m+/yr. An executive making that much should be making pretty damn sound decisions. I'd like to hear an argument of what Holland has done in the last decade that proves his value. You could take a committee of five dedicated Oilers fans and pay them $100k each to do a far superior job. |

I can see how Kenny is gonna fix this team this offseason already.
Buyout Neal.
Resign Smith and Barrie.
Sign Hyman.
Trade Kassian half retained to Pittsburgh for Peterssen.
Call it a good offseason. Lose half the fan base. |

This organization is a (frank)ing joke. 4 1st overall draft picks and now we have nothing to show for 2 of them. I’m not spending anymore money on this team. (frank) em. |

Oiler fans are crazy ridiculous haha. Everyone calm down. Some people acting like they lost a Norris dman. Losing Larson won’t be as bad as you think. Adding Keith will be better than you think. Relax |

The fact that Larsson only signed for four million means this was less about dollars and simply that he wanted a change of scenery. He chose an expansion team over one that has McDavid and Draisaitl on it. That should feel like a glaring indictment on this organization.
