Hopefully Hex doesn't want some space to give Ceci a raise...
- MattStrat

I was thinking that myself. I hope not. Ceci played well, but I think we could use an upgrade. I wonder if he tries to acquire someone like Dustin Brown as the replacement for Tanev?

Was busy at grandfather mountain all day but I thought Tanev was guaranteed to be protected or something?

If he was on edibles he really would have galaxy brained it. At least enough cap is cleared to sign Tatar now just for grinder.

No, if we assume he doesn't trade McCann but leaves him unprotected, McCann is lost in expansion.
While I like Tanev, I don't like the contract and it unmovable without a sweetener. Losing Tanev was a net gain, all things considered.

The winner of a FA signing already paid more than anyone else, with the player having pocketed the excess value. His contract should be unmovable because everyone already decided it was more then they were willing to pay. Unless things change, and the only change has been a flat cap.

That said, I would have protected McCann and exposed Blueger

The Penguins... arent going to do this... but if we had any guts... we'd send Elias Pettersson an offer sheet.

How would our ~7M in cap space ever facilitate that?

Besides the cap space... the other big win for tonight is Jordan franking Eberle leaving the division. That guy killed us everytime we played them.

Did the Islanders really protect Clutterbuck and Martin over Eberle? Wow.

Sadly we don't see enough teams signing other teams RFAs. It would make things more interesting. I would like to see us more aggressive during free agency.

I'm working under the assumption that Pettersson or Zucker is moved and creates more cap space.

It aint going to happen, but I wish teams sent offer sheets more often.

I don't think Zucker is going anywhere. Pettersson on the other hand I think is likely to be moved.

Agreed. If Seattle didnt take Zucker for free, I think that tells us a bit about his value around the league.

And I'm fine keeping Zucker. Hopefully he stays healthy and plays well with Carter.

Right now, here are my lines:

Jake-Crosby-Rust
Zucker-Carter-_____
_____-Blueger-Kapanen
ZAR-Gaudreau-AHL guy/cheap UFA

I think we need to find a good 2nd line RWer. I like Kapanen on the 3rd line. If we move Pettersson, we should have the money to find some nice targets for 2nd/3rd line holes.

Hopefully Zucker and Carter build some solid chemistry that way Sully doesn't play him with Geno when he comes back from injury.

I don't think him not being selected speaks his value around the league. SEA clearly has plan and I think it's going out and getting big fish in FA.

Unfortunately, that means we're just going to take that money back into free agency and be the top bidder on somebody else.

So... I'm guessing Francis will open up shop tomorrow taking some decent players on bad contracts for a fee?

Didn't GMs learn from the Vegas fiasco that's not a good idea?

How much can you pay a decent player that’ll make him want to join an expansion team filled with 80% ahl talent?
