That's how I feel. I would have expanded McCann's role to start the season.

Tanev was in that middle case scenario for me. It does clear some cap, but his wasn't one of the contracts I most wanted to dump. Going to be hard watching Sully pretend he can just use Lafferty there.

This Hall dream of yours just refuses to die lol.

Man.... the thought of that is a gut punch.

Is Burkie gonna want Hex to sign his 2nd overall pick runner up to Sid in 2005 I wonder...how about his cup winning boys Getzlaf or Perry?

The Athletic just put up the list of known picks, and our slot is curiously blank along with the Wings, Rangers, and Lightning

Losing Tanev is a big win for the Penguins, last time we had to pay a 2nd round pick to lose a #1 caliber goalie.

I guess the downside is... does this tell us that Zucker's value is pretty low around the league? I think in Pettersson's case, Seattle had better options at defense. I think you have to move Matheson or Pettersson and obviously no one is taking Matheson. In Zucker's case, Id be okay if he is still here on opening night.

Penguins could probably end up with the most cap space in the offseason since 2012. Penguins could target a few top guys and hope one bites, or they can solidify their roster moving forward. I tend to lean in the first camp. Since Crosby/Malkin's production will likely decrease, we could use another scorer to pick up some of the responsibilities.

I think Gudreau or Z should get a look at the 4th line RW spot. Definitely someone making less than Tanev's $3.5M.

Yeah I do find this sudden cap space exciting haha...could be even more room made in the next few days as well. I mean, if Petts or Zuck go we're looking at like 10/11 mill in cap space...nuts

I don't know what to think about Z yet. Had a few nice games, but looked invisible for a bunch too. G should def be signed. Good swiss army knife who looks competent at both ends of the ice. We need a 4C until Geno gets back.

I think Gudreau should get the spot, Z could be a decent 13th forward or something. I really liked Gudreau. He does the little things right and keeps his game simple. I think Lafferty has as much talent, but his problem is he plays like an idiot sometimes and thinks he's a top 6 forward not a 4th liner.

I think gaudreau is a bargain to stay at 3rw with carter and maybe with zucker. I’d imagine angello/laff gets first shot at a full time gig. Possibly bjorkvist or even bellerive is supposed to be a feisty player although shoots left. Could be possible cheap options.

I think the Penguins should use this cap space to find a long term 2C. No idea who that is or who is even out there, but its something we should plan for sooner rather than later. When Malkin comes back, put him at wing.

I think if you have a 3rd line of Zucker-Carter-Gaudreau (when everyone is healthy)... I think you could do a lot worse than that. So I'd be okay with it.

I think the hole from Tanev needs to be filled with someone internal. We got to go into camp with a few of these guys and hope one of them wins the job.

I’d rather pay 3.5 million to have Tanev re energize the team every 5 minutes. There’s no one in the pipeline that will be close to filling Tanevs role to the team.

I agree. At minimum a stud top 6 to carry some load. If malkin is out longer term Crosby and Carter will be spent by April.

Over the years, I've bought a Neal jersey... a Kessel jersey... and a Tanev jersey....

Guess I need to buy a Pettersson jersey?

First time in my Hockeybuzz life I agree with you. This team without energy/swagger becomes listless very quickly.

If they're using the saved cap space on a tender who won't literally pass the puck to the other team in OT, I'm fine with losing Tanev.

Yes because you sign guys like Tanev so they single handily win you a playoff series. I believe he finally got bumped up to sids wing with 5 minutes left in the elimination game because he was one of 3 forwards still actually playing.

So we're gonna have 7.5mil available after tonight. I assume they'll trade DeSmith because there's no way they won't bring in someone to compete with Jarry.

So 9mil.

If we can dump Petts... That's 13mil.

Should be plenty to get a tender and a top 6 wing.

In the end, GMRH moved Tanev's contract for Hallendar and a 7th.

If you're inclined to think the money and term an overpay, then Hexxy did OK.

I'm happy to keep Zucker inasmuch as he only has 2 years, the contract isn't a horrible overpay, and he likely won't have to skate beside Malkin.

The only thing this expansion has shown me is Hextall purposely concocted a way to loose 2 good players for what’s left of the Crosby, Malkin era. All so he can start his 25 year plan of rebuilding the team like he started in Philly, and they already suck again. Rutherford>Hextall. GM wise not in goal.

Jesse Marshall basically said Hallender is now our best prospect. Doesn't say much about Poulin or Legare.
