So we're gonna have 7.5mil available after tonight. I assume they'll trade DeSmith because there's no way they won't bring in someone to compete with Jarry.

So 9mil.

If we can dump Petts... That's 13mil.

Should be plenty to get a tender and a top 6 wing.

Not sure if you’re an Athletic guy, but the pens beat had an article breaking down who they protected and why, and they suggested Jarry is kept because Hextall either has a trade lined up or likes his chances for moving him. Speculation but maybe educated speculation.

Honestly, I'm not sure that's enough because they have so many holes. Even adding a top 6, that's only 9 forwards under contract to start the year and one of those is Lafferty.

The only thing this expansion has shown me is Hextall purposely concocted a way to loose 2 good players for what’s left of the Crosby, Malkin era. All so he can start his 25 year plan of rebuilding the team like he started in Philly, and they already suck again. Rutherford>Hextall. GM wise not in goal.

He literally hasn't even had a single draft or free agency. He is in such a terrible position because of Rutherford and his moronic moves the last 3 seasons.

Tank for two years and get wright/bedard. Boom we got the next two superstars. Problem solved.

Maybe I should be grateful. I’ve stated in the past that it will be somewhat refreshing to see a team on the rebuild and get excited for regular season wins like I did pre Crosby in the dark era. Seems like Hextall at the helm might just speed up the process.

Only team to lose two guys to Seattle in the draft, so far anyways.

In the end, GMRH moved Tanev's contract for Hallendar and a 7th.

If you're inclined to think the money and term an overpay, then Hexxy did OK.

I'm happy to keep Zucker inasmuch as he only has 2 years, the contract isn't a horrible overpay, and he likely won't have to skate beside Malkin.

LOL @ The Rangers. Apparently a deal is being worked out to send Strome to SEA for Gio. Not sure how that will flow, but those are reported to be the main pieces being worked on.

His assumption is that Jared McCann was going to be taken if we kept him on our roster. He’s not wrong. Whether or not we should have protected him is a totally different issue, but once that decision was made, it’s fair to say we traded Tanev for Hallendar and a 7th.

Now that I think of it... We technically are returning our top 6. So is 13mil enough for a goalie and 2 middle 6 guys?

I think they sign Freddy cheap. I think they'll give guys like Z and Angello a shot. I could be crazy, but I thought Angello finally looked like an NHL player before he got hurt. Obviously just a 4th liner.

I have no faith in Laffs.

Both Rossi and Yohe are saying they're hearing that's Hexy and Burkes #1 priority. Just heard Yohe repeat that today.

Massive mistake if they don't.

There must be some serious trades to be announced, and side deals, because these picks seem very underwhelming as a whole. Philly and Carolina must have a side deal going on for sure. Maybe cbus.

I think it’s a bigger mistake to not use the cap space to try to load up on as much goal scoring talent at forward as possible. I don’t at all want to roll Jarry back but goalies are such a shot in the dark that I’d rather gamble on Jarry bouncing back than has all of our cap space on a tender.

The only way I think they can do both is if they're moving Jarry out and replacing him with a goalie in a similar price-range, i.e. Kuemper.

Heard Yohe say the obvious today... Said all that "confidence" and "support" Hexy and Burke gave Jarry after the season was mostly BS. Makes no sense to trash your player who has a pretty big contract.

They know why they lost to the Islanders. Everybody knows.

Don't get me wrong, if he botches this I'll be right there with you, but I would like to see a different approach to building this team. A fresh view could do it some good.

Yeah, I said it before, but I truly think Jarry will emerge as a solid goalie. He's 26, but he's basically played the equivalent of one season and this was his first season as a starting goalie in the playoffs. The Pens just don't have the luxury of time to wait until if/when he gets better.
