Oh ok didn’t look at the schedule but was told they would be on the road and assumed a Western swing. In any event lots of road games to start the season.

Islanders don’t do western Canada till January. They’ll be in Edmonton on the 8th.

If Friedman's report that the Isles are 'far along' in contract talks with Palmieri are true, that would seem to make a big UFA signing more unlikely. A trade sending more salary would be the most like scenario at that stage. Gonna be a wild next week

Wouldn’t shock me if signing him is more of a priority then any of these other rumored players. He is a known commodity and he fits in with the team. Both of those things seem to be a priority over anything else with Lameriello. I think they’ll sign Parise on the cheap and try to find a way for Suter also but it may not work due to the money. In the end I think Palmieri and Parise will definitely be islanders with a 50/50 for suter and that’ll be the extent of our offseason imo.

Palmieri coming back seems like a good bet Cpt and Palmieri should be even better this coming year with more time in Barry's system. Parise is also a strong possibility. Landy I think will be too tough to make the money work. Suter you would think they can work out a deal but no guarantee.

Yeah I know not super exciting but I believe those moves with Lee back in the mix make us a pretty formidable team.

Seems like a decent chance that the roster could end up as:

Lee-Barzal-Palmieri
Beau-Nelson-Bailey
Parise-Pageau-Wahlstrom
4th line

Pelech-Pulock
Suter-Mayfield
Greene-Dobson

Which is pretty solid

If that’s the case Panik or Leo will have to be moved. Also do they tender MDC?

Depending on what all the UFA signings look like, one of them may be able to stay as an extra forward. I could go either way on Dal Colle, honestly. He's not terrible but he's entirely replaceable with literally any zero-offense defensive forward out there.

They can bury Panik in the 'A' and just take a $245k hit. Leo should be moved but Lou is the one who did that contract, so he may not be so interested to move him.
With the rumor that Montreal checked in on Beau, you have to wonder if true, did they do so because Lou floated his name? Could something like Beau for Taresenko or another big name happen?
Still a lot going on. And it's Lou, so we won't know until we know

Considering that Panik was added to the trade, I’m forced to wonder if he’s the planned 3LW anyway.

I like Parise and all, but if he can’t be had for less or equivalent to what Panik makes in coin and term, then perhaps he’s not an option.

Panik is a solid player. Could be an extra forward in case of injuries.

I mean he can't be worth a whole hell of a lot. I have no problem losing him for nothing, but if we can recoup something for him then cool. Kind of a non-factor for me at this point.

While it is a pretty solid line up, personally, I think we still need a consistent 30-40 goals/year player. That's where I like Tarasenko. With Lee we'd be getting back 20-30 per year I'm just not sure that'll be enough to get us over the hump and into the finals. I guess we'll see what happens over the next week.

Panik will likely hit the cap harder than Parise

I’m not expecting anything for him. They have to do something with these extra guys at some point. Was kind of hoping Leo & Hickey were traded at 1pm yesterday lol

Not unreasonable to think that one of them may be bought out. Going off the buyout calculator CapFriendly has....Hickey's cap hit is less but his buyout actually saves us a small bit more.

I wouldn't be surprised if one was bought out and one was traded to one of those cap-basement teams that need to get to the floor. Maybe Bellows or Aho goes with them as compensation for taking them off our hands.

Palmieri looked lost even through the earliest parts of the playoffs. I get having to acclimate, but I was wondering what the big deal was about him, and after seeing Hall have a good first round, I thought maybe the Isles should have traded for him instead.

Then, well, Palmieri proved me wrong. He was chippy...even borderline dirty at times, he scored goals, he showed a really good release and a willingness to shoot even from bad angles, and he showed a pretty good overall game away from the puck.

I think I'd rather bring back Palmieri at something around Eberle's contract than trade for a more expensive Tarasenko and take a chance with the injuries he's had. I mean, Tarasenko's a more explosive player and better goal scorer, no doubt. But he comes at the cost of Palmieri + another player, and, I don't know, we just went through years of dead cap space tied up in a player too injured to play effectively but not hurt enough for LTIR. I'm not sure I'd roll those dice again this quickly.

Of course, if he goes to Philly and torments the Isles for years, I'll feel pretty dumb! But I think Lee-Barzal-Palmieri would be a damn good line that could not only score, but punish the other team along the boards...right in line with what this team's all about.

Well I’m not sure Landeskog fits that bill, though Tarasenko might. But Tarasenko is a RW and the need is on the left, so he’s not ideal regardless.

There is the possibility (admittedly small) that Wahlstrom could push for 30 if he sees time with Barzal, though I think that spot will go to Palmieri.

Hoffman fits the bill as far as goals go. Less productive (20+ goal) guys could be had in Schwartz, Granlund and arguably Saad. Coleman would probably push 20 goals if given top 6 minutes, and is a (frank)ing buzzsaw even when he’s not scoring.

Options exist on the market. And frankly, if the roster is healthy comes playoffs and Komarov is replaced with one of the forwards mentioned above, then I think the Islanders will have enough offence to get it done.

Schwartz was intriguing to me, but I think he only plays LW. I'm not sure they can afford to pay him the kind of money he'll get to play 3rd line minutes, although that'd be one hell of a third line.

I love Coleman (because I hate him), but I'm not sure if I prefer him or Palmieri. Not even sure who'd cost more, honestly.

Well I want Palmieri AND one of the forwards mentioned above. 😅

Perhaps it’s an over abundance of optimism, but I’m thinking (hoping) Palmieri signs for about 4.5 per. That extra million in savings whence compared to the Eberle contract, and the extra savings made via buyout will perhaps give Lou enough wiggle room to sign another top 6 winger.

What’s more, I’m also hoping that said signing would play on Nelson’s LW. Love Beauvillier and all, but I think he’s best suited to the 3rd line and bumping him down would give Pageau a legitimate scoring threat on his left side.

Pipe dream perhaps. 🤷‍♂️
