I'll take what is completely (frank)ing up an expansion draft for $500 please. - joel878
Need to see the side deals.
If they aren't impressive - then ya.

I would fully support trying to get Chychrun. You would probably then have to move out Rielly later though. Too many left shots. - torfc23
There you go.
Marner for garland + chychrun
Sign Bunting
Trade Rielly for another winger and some space.
Sign Hamilton.
Plan parade. |

Marners not getting traded, might as well look at some different options again.

Reading and listening around today it appears that cap space was at the top of the Kraken wish list. Where they took a salary (eg. Giordano) it appears they are going to flip him for a less costly option (Rangers).
End of the day, Kraken finishes with huge cap space. Those teams that had a cap problem before this morning still have the same problem.
Cap space has been fully weaponized. It is going to cost big to move salary out to the teams that can afford to add to their cap.

As I said - I would have kept him. I don't see him as a significant difference maker, but I would have kept a young RFA at less than $3m who can play 3C or slot into the top-6 over Kerfoot.
I also see why they had to value Holl as they did. His cap flexibility accompanied by his decent top-4 performance made him a necessary piece due to the flat cap and some larger contracts.
It's why the Leafs thread devolves into so much female doging. The cap is tight. The players are generally useful. The guy who is overpaid the most is untradeable (JT), and the guy who is overpaid the 2nd most is probably the 2nd best player on the team (Mitch). This was a team built on NOT having the cap go flat for several years.
You want to talk Leafy? That's (frank)ing Leafy. We finally get a good team and start building it with a financial plan that is completely demolished by a global pandemic. Did they overpay Marner? Yeah. Did they overpay or unnecessarily grab JT? Probably. But a global pandemic? Jesus, Karma. Back off.
So these little - largely inconsequential moves - are so amplified that we end up just . . .ticked off! - Monkeypunk
I was with you till the last paragraph. The inconsequential moves matter because karma left us in a spot where there’s work to be done and very little room for error - even less to correct errors. Bringing in what we thought were gritty guys and some bought character wasn’t enough to overcome bad breaks last year.
The other thing is that everyone or many are pissed off because that second most overpaid guy had another bad postseason thus making him somehow a bad player and confirming everyone’s belief in what’s wrong. It’s not that the little moves tick us off. We’re already ticked and little moves confirm how right we are to hate everything. |

You keep saying this. But NYI just moved Ladd for two seconds and a third for two years of cap dump.
That's really not overly expensive if cap space is truly being "weaponized"

We'll have to agree to disagree..
If the plan all along was to protect Holl and use the 4-4-1 option, why even make the trade for McCann?
Just lose Kerfoot or Dermott and move on. It was a bad move by Dubas..
If the Kraken took Kerfoot, you free up 3.5M in cap space - PatC80
Is Kerfoot not worth Hallander and a 7th?
Because that's what the trade was for.

I don't know if McCann is that guy. Is he tougher than Kerfoot? Yeah, sure, but so is my 11 year old daughter.
They need not Simmonds. They need who Foligno once was. They need some warriors to lead the way. Whoever said it last thread - at the end of the round, you could see the price in Gallagher's face. You need guys like that who want to win at all costs.
That's why I think this is largely inconsequential. It's not the move we need. It's not even the time. It's the expansion draft. The moves that have to come - or hopefully will come - are yet to come. |

I was more thinking not spending $2M to upgrade our second defence pairing to put that $ towards other priorities. |

Tonight was/is going to be ESPN’s first night of NHL coverage with their big draft show. They wanted to combine it with the Friday amateur draft but Gary said, “no get two big nights.”
I wonder if Severalli is ever going to get a League interview again. |
