What's in it for the Leafs?
If it's some token draft pick like a 5th rounder no way Leafs should be enabling Hyman to jump ship. - Nasty_Duck
If it’s a 6th or 7th round draft pick I hope Holland pays the extra 400k for 7 years. |

I'll take a 5th round pick.
The Oilers are willing to pay us a draft pick in order to overpay Hyman.
The alternative is we receive nothing and the Oilers still overpay Hyman.
I'll take option #1.

id guess a 2nd or 3rd - Santo_44
Edmonton doesn't have a 2 or 3 rnd pck this year or next.
If the Leafs were to get ether of those picks, it would be for 2023
I could see a 4 th rnd pck or maybe one of the two 6 rnd pick's they have or both in this year draft |

I was being sarcastic. Money spent upfront > money spent to replace Holl - Canada Cup
We already have 50M committed to our forwards. Four of them make up 40M and are all elites who are supposed to carry us to the promised land.
But yes, let's spend more on the forward group and dismiss any upgrades to the defence because we are absolutely, irrevocably priced in. |

Nope.
The Leafs don't have the Oilers over a barrel here so why are we getting such a nice pay day? |

I think you're probably right.. At most, I think it will be a 6th rd pick, if they want the 8th year |

Its 400K in cap space every year...I think that's valuable.
This is a sign and trade not trading for rights. Players have gotten 3rd round picks back for trading for rights of players that they dont even know if they can sign.
Its a sign and trade so Holland can get 8 years. I'd say its worth a 2nd or 3rd.
They don't have that so they can figure out what's equal value. |

I mean, the rights to Benson would be maybe reasonable but I don't think you get a pick to go with that.
But hey, I don't think I quite understand anything about the economics of the hockey market right now. So who knows? |

Two examples.
Vesey got a 3rd and Buffalo didnt sign him
Yandle got a 4th and 6th and Florida signed him
This is a sign and trade, its different and more valuable.
A 6th round pick would be a joke. |

400K in cap space is really not that big of a difference to warrant a high end pick; Maybe a 6th rd pick or a b-level prospect like Hallander..

Looking at the Oilers defence corps and it's a wonder why the hell they're looking at bringing on Hyman for 5M+ and that much term.
And I guess they're hoping to sign Barrie again. |

The Oilers as a mess.
Mcdavid and Dri makes them a playoff team but they wont go anywhere with their roster. |
