We all like Hyman. He termed himself out. If someone is giving him 7 or 8 years with value that considers all of those years higher than his projected AAV on a shorter term deal, he'd be a fool not to go. And we'd be fools to match.
- Monkeypunk

About right. Lots of questions for a long term deal on a grit guy with injury history that plays very hard and pisses off opposition.

It's because the Oilers actually want to make an effort to win the next 3-4 seasons.
Dubas is just here to prolong his owns tenura as a GM.
It truly is a joke.

he doesn't have an injury history.
at least not a significant one that would put any doubts on him being 100% fit again next season.

It completely depends on the situation. If you are in a strong playoff position, it’s crazy to unload an member of your team. If not, dump away. If there was a trade to get someone equally useful as Hyman the off-season prior, ok trade. Otherwise keep him for your run. It’s cheaper than bringing in Foligno which everybody loved.

The Leafs got full value out if their contract with Hyman.

- Canada Cup

Not everbody loved the price of Foligno, I thought it was a huge overpay, and he clearly didnt work out.

doesnt have an injury history, but he was coming back from an injury.

he has been a leaf for every playoff loss. its not like he was carrying the team in any way.

dont overpay for the hype

I don't do a franking penny over $4M, and even that is too much. Give him $3.5M X 5 with a full NMC.

FFS, the guy makes $20M a year from video games - and that success is largely based upon his marketability as a Leafs player.

I really hope he enjoys Edmonton.

For the next seven years.

who cares a bout a side business. hell, a lot people have two jobs or investment that are make coin for the individuals.
Sorry wedgie, you make too much $$ with your TFSA so we're not going to give you a raise.

what does this have to do with his main paycheck which he is chasing. 3.5 mil is why he leaving.

Dubas did have that statement about BLM and LGTBQ rights, so he's the best GM ever

It's a team game. Willie can't do everything.

Also, who played better?

Prorated, Hyman has scored 15, 24, 34 and 29 goals based on an 82 game season. Not many 30 goal scorers aren't worth more than $3.5M.

He's going to break down more and we all know it. He's on the wrong side of his peak, so the question is - where is his decline break?

But to think he's not worth $4.5m when he helped elevate every line he was placed on and gave the most honest and sincere effort on the team for the past 5 years is a bit unfair. He's just not worth it for more than 4 or 5 years!

- Monkeypunk

His numbers are wickedly inflated.

I'm sure he'll continue to rack up points if he plays on a line with McDavid.

I'm just saying I'll bet we can replace 90% of his scoring with a guy making $3M.

Keeping soft Willie and letting Hyman go.
What a joke.
