So let me get this straight...

Pens were going to lose McCann.

Dubas gave them Hallander and a 7th. Logic: they might take Kerfoot.

Kerfoot = McCann give or take a tiny bit of $ and talent either way.

Kraken take McCann.

Pens get Hallander and a 7th.

Kraken basically took Hallander and a 7th from the Leafs, nothing off of the roster for the expansion draft.

Besides the fact that our roster can't make it passed the first round and is obviously fu3ked money wise to balance it out...all of it was a complete nothing burger.

I'm no fan of Dubas, but it was a slick move and worked.

Now get the fu3k to work Dubas, fix this piece of shiit, pu$$y ass team and find some muthafu3king players with fire in their belly. Oh wait, can't no $$$.

3 wingers
1 top 4 RHD
1 b/u G

No cap, no picks, light on the prospects. We're fu3ked.

Yes, he was though.. Or do we just pretend Saturday July 17 to Wednesday July 21 never actually happened?

You need to understand that what basically happened was Dubas paid Hallander and a 7th to protect his assets from Seattle.

THAT is what we lost in the expansion draft. McCann was simply a placeholder.

We did extremely well by retaining all of our roster players, which opens the doors for whatever other opportunities come our way.

Pens knew they were going to lose McCann so that got two assets for him.
Leafs knew they were going to lose McCann, but they got nothing for him.

We didn't only lose Hallander and a 7th to Seattle, we lost McCann..

Which in my opinion is a fail by Dubas

And who else are the Pens losing?
Something doesn't smell quite right.

If that deal was on the table, it was a bad decision. There's no denying that. Weegar is a better top-4 option that Holl. He also makes $1.5m more. So pennies would have had to be saved elsewhere - but regardless, yes I recall that offer at the time, and I would have done that one.

Savings on Simmonds + Kerfoot to McCann + Holl gets you within 200k of Weegar.

Also, Engvall at 3C and Kerfoot out pays for it entirely.

There, we just acknowledged that there is potential to improve on Holl on this planet, and also outlined two quick ways the cap space could have been found without nuking the team.

What management level position would the leafs like to offer me...

Arizona is 6M under the cap floor.

If they trade Kuemper they will be 10.5M under the cap floor.

plus Dvorak and they will be 15M under the cap floor.

What players are available right now that are worth less than their cap hits? Please tell me how Kerfoot is not a Coyote at the end of the week.

700K for a 3.5M cap hit? Arizona needs that contract.

Well thank God we can keep this roster as is.

For the record, I trust that Dubas has *something* in the cannon that will result in some kind of change this season more so than the 9.4 million in cap space he will have after McCann is taken to plug holes.

But I think there are very few leaf fans on earth who watched the last 5 years go by and came into this week thinking Jesus christ I hope we manage to keep this entire roster together, we're (frank)ed if we don't.

I don't think it's anything special...

I've also watched Kerfoot as a leaf for two years (save for this playoff), as well as Engvall take that spot this year.... And I really don't think it's any worse.

arizona is in big trouble. They can't pay their players right now and pretty much have to trade OEL and Connor Garland

Yeah it wasn't intended as a this is easy kind of thing as much as it was to display the idea that we so desperately need Justin Holl in our top 4 and there's just no other way is an incredibly stupid notion.

Justin Holl needed to be protected. Everyone should accept this. We need his cap hit and his chemistry with Muzzin.
- buddzy

And how does he play without muzzin?
Not that great.
You can find someone else to have good chemistry with muzzin and play decent without muzzin for about the same or a little more than what holl is paid.
Holl isnt a top 4 dman on a top playoff team.

But dubas likes his guys....so here we are.
No cap space saved
Down a 7th - meh, leafs drafting is meh anyway
Down hallander.

The leafs could have kept Mcann, exposed kerfoot and holl. Kerfoot would have been taking most likely and we now save $600g's for one year with mccann (younger and bit better) and still keep holl.

Not much different than Kerfoot. McCann would have been a nice upgrade.

That doesn't work now unless you have a time machine - that also shifts salary. You can't take a current situation and look at a situation a year ago. They are not trading Weegar for that anymore because he was on a show-me deal and he sure showed them. His next deal will be significantly more.

They owe over 6M in salary more than their cap hit right now...In a season where they can't spend money.

They are going to gut their roster as much as they can and fill it as best as they can while getting to the cap floor.

What free agent is signing there right now? You maybe get some 1-2M guys looking for an opportunity but that's it.

Crouse could probably be had for free right now. They can't afford to pay his 2.25M salary at a 1.5M cap hit.

It's just another example of how our cap situation restricts from building a balanced, competitive roster. We're (frank)ed.

That’s exactly what happened. He might have made the same offer to Francis and got rejected.
But if you don’t like Dubas it means he made a big miscalculation and lost McCann. The sky is falling.

Yes and that wasn't my intention. I was more so saying if it could have been done then I'm sure there are avenues to find an upgrade now.
