Well thank God we can keep this roster as is.

For the record, I trust that Dubas has *something* in the cannon that will result in some kind of change this season more so than the 9.4 million in cap space he will have after McCann is taken to plug holes.

But I think there are very few leaf fans on earth who watched the last 5 years go by and came into this week thinking Jesus christ I hope we manage to keep this entire roster together, we're (frank)ed if we don't.

It's not about keeping the roster as is come October 2021.

It's about retaining your assets in the interim, offering you as much value as possible to change your roster for this upcoming off-season.

Y'all need to think big picture.

That doesn't work now unless you have a time machine - that also shifts salary. You can't take a current situation and look at a situation a year ago. They are not trading Weegar for that anymore because he was on a show-me deal and he sure showed them. His next deal will be significantly more.

But who cares, thats 2 years from now.

Big picture, this roster kinda sucks in the playoffs.

I’d be ok sending out the same roster. We have a good team.

I specifically remember being high on Weegar and most on here saying they shouldn't pay for a 26 year old that has had one good year.

And how does he play without muzzin?
Not that great.
You can find someone else to have good chemistry with muzzin and play decent without muzzin for about the same or a little more than what holl is paid.
Holl isnt a top 4 dman on a top playoff team.

But dubas likes his guys....so here we are.
No cap space saved
Down a 7th - meh, leafs drafting is meh anyway
Down hallander.

The leafs could have kept Mcann, exposed kerfoot and holl. Kerfoot would have been taking most likely and we now save $600g's for one year with mccann (younger and bit better) and still keep holl.

- Fakepartofme

Holl is more valuable than most of you think.

I think there's just a lot of sour taste in our mouth's from yet another poopy 1st round exit.

It's called asset management ladies and gentleman. Holl has proven himself to be a worthy partner for Muzzin, at a cost of $2M for the next two seasons.

That has value. Finding another top 4 RHD for 2 million is virtually impossible. No one is trading you a player like that.

And you can bet your sunny skies that there's no free agent signing for that much

Big picture is we have big contracts, big holes, no cap space, few prospects and few picks...and no success.

We're (frank)ed.

The cap space that's there has to get us 3 wingers a backup goalie, and likely a 5/6 defenseman. That's not going very far. If they move Kerfoot for picks / assets, and replace him, then perhaps you get an additional $1.5m to stretch over those roles. It's still not an overhaul.

Trade Rielly. Trade Marner. Those moves as unpalatable as they would be, would allow for a real overhaul of the roster. But Marner is a top-10 scorer in the league. We trade him, we're not going to get another player like him until the next successful rebuild - so the move only comes if there's a clear and concrete plan. Marner out and Hamilton in isn't it.

I like giordano but he's 37 and I wouldn't give up a heck of a lot for him, especially on that contract.
- BINGO!

He’s a UFA after this season. If the Kraken held him until the deadline and shipped him to a contender, they’d get quite a haul in my opinion.

Yes, but Joel was saying that we make moves now (like keep McCann over Kerfoot) in order to have the cap space to make a trade a year ago for Weegar.

Only Billy Pilgrim was this unstuck in time, and it didn't work out well for him.

arizona is in big trouble. They can't pay their players right now and pretty much have to trade OEL and Connor Garland
- BINGO!

Kerfoot's 3.5 AAV and 750k salary will fit them nicely.

Top 5.

Marner's performance in the playoffs was really bad.

Let's hope our elite forwards can continue to learn and mature, then dominate.

They're still extremely young.

Talk to me about asset management re. Kadri trade, and a first for Nik Foligno.

ya not over 82 games and the playoffs.....that wouldnt be pretty

For the record, I'm an advocate for putting willie on the 3rd line.

Because if you're going to be committed to the big salaries, the Habs just proved to us that you have to find a way to spread your offence out and make it less containable.

Signed winger / Matthews / Beer can
Robertson / Tavares / Marner
Bunting / Engvall / Willie
Galchenyuk / Spezza / Simmonds

Muzzin / Hamilton
Sandin / Brodie
Dermott / Bogosian

Campbell
1B

At that point I don't hate Engvall at 3C as much, and I really don't see that massive of a difference between him and Kerfoot (minus the playoffs - and enough to warrant an extra 2.3 million).

And also for the record, this is far from my first preference. Its just clear they aren't trading Marner, and at that point this is the kind of hand you have to play.

Im no capologist but i believe at that point there's money there to shore up your weak areas.

Yup and they can slot him at 2LW and be content.

Kerfoot is the real loser of this offseason

Call it PTSD but I would also love to watch rugby or cricket or whatever the (frank) else is on next hockey season at that point.

I hadnt watched much of him and was only going off what hockey peeps said of him.
I had no horse in that race other than wanting to move on from holl.

I would love to see Garland or Kuemper in a Leafs uniform.

Coyotes need to acquire cap space, while also position themselves for a re-build.

Expect them to take high cap hit, low salary paid players in an effort to reach the cap floor, while also pawning off their valuable roster pieces.

Should be an interesting off-season for them.
