The more I think about it, not that big a deal. We traded Hakanpaa (who is now a UFA) and a 6th round pick to acquire him. Maybe that was the plan all along with Ron Francis (since he went from Carolina to Seattle). Trade for Fleury so Francis can require him. So in reality we lost a 6th round pick in the expansion draft. Please don't make Fleury out to be the next Theodore.

And who knows if there's a side deal in place with Seattle to take a contract off our hands. We'll find that out later.

Exactly! As long as Zegras, Comtois, Drysdale, Gibson, or Terry weren't taken, who cares? All of the hand-wringing over Fleury is bizarre, and I realize a lot of it has to do with hatred of Bob Murray. Hey, I don't like him either but he learned his lesson and didn't butcher this expansion draft.
Also, I'm REALLY glad Seattle didn't take Stolarz. Now the Ducks have their goalie tandem for next year and Dostal and Erickson-EK can spend a season in San Diego competing against each other.

Semi-annoyed, hopefully Guhle or Mahura can take a huge leap and really perform at the nhl level.

Just the icing on the cake on what an unmitigated disaster Murray’s been…

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a Murray fan and feel like it is time for a new GM. If we were lucky enough to have you running the show, we'd have at least 3 more cups. But instead we're stuck with GMBM and the Ducks lost someone in the expansion draft that he traded for last year because he wanted to protect those he drafted in the 1st round and the locker room glue guy with grit. Perhaps he has a trade lined with NY so he can fight Wilson all next season, but I'm not an insider so that's just speculation. Do I like some of the moves he's made? You bet. Do I question some of the others? Definitely. I come to Hockeybuzz to enjoy the comments, and as I said above, you're a bit dramatic.

Hayden Fleury: 179 NHL games - 7G 20A -12
Josh Mahura: 41 NHL games - 3G 10A. -3

So Fleury has already played 4X the # of pro games as Mahura (who is 2 years younger). With zero improvement, multiply the Mahura totals by 4 and you would get:

164 NHL games Mahura - 12G 40A -12
179 NHL games Fleury - 7G 20A -12

The "unmitigated disaster" (for drama purposes/to quote dozer) would have been to lose Mahura.

Like I said, icing on the cake for a multitude of boneheaded moves, there’s not enough space for me to list them all.

Fluery was a nice fit and easily protectable… It’s laughable people are wanting to protect Sam Steel that kid has done absolutely Deeeekk since he’s been here. D men are inherently more valuable than forwards. Especially forwards that can’t get their act together.

Just another in the long list of Murray failures.

Nice dodge on the Fleury/Mahura comparison.

I guess you would have kept Kase too? The same Kase who scored 6G with Boston and may never play another NHL game. I feel bad for him, but evidently you would have kept him.

Don’t guess - and yes, I was an advocate of trading Kase after his previous injury -

Also with proper GMing - Fluery and Mahura who I’m a big fan of despite his many defensive shortcomings - which are well documented- were both easily keepable -

Just another indictment of Murray’s many failings-

We can agree to disagree. Mahura "defensive shortcomings" no more apparent than Fleury, and he's 2 years younger.

If you want to keep Mahura and Fleury, then you advocate letting Fowler, Lindholm or Manson be exposed instead. You cannot guarantee neither would have been claimed. I think all 3 are more valuable than Fleury. You don't. That's fine.

The problem with fans with an irrational hatred of Barstool Bob is no matter what he does it's the wrong move. You've pointed out that Mahura is basically a younger version of Fleury, so this really isn't that big of a deal. But I'd bet you a lot of money that if Seattle had picked Mahura instead of Fleury, that would have been an "unmitigated disaster", too. Mind you, we're talking about a 5/6 D-man in Fleury here, on a bad team! But yeah, whatever.
