What would a contract for Alex Martinez look like? He could also be a target, has played for Sutter before. After that locking Sutter out of the dressing room episode, maybe that's not so good.

If anybody thought he was the best d on the team they would have either protected him or sent assets to Sesttle to take someone else. Many on here have complained of his quick decline. We're going to miss Gio but 7 mil in cap space opens a lot of other options.Tre did the right thing not protecting him.
Classy individual that I hope has a chance to resign here and retire a Flame. Should be some tears shed when he gives his fair well speech.

They didn't protect him because he's 38. Seattle's asking price of a 1st and a 3rd was a non starter. Not everyone will agree he was still the best dman on the team but the coach did see fit to give him the most ice time.

He’s 33 and with a flat cap I would give him 3x5 per year. Lots of teams could out bid that but I don’t know how comfortable I would be giving him more aav or an extra year.

Gio was easily the 3rd best D on the team mainly because Anderssom didn’t take the step forward he was expected to (which I suspect is partially because of gio’s decline). That said he was still a good top 4 D last year and as far as dollars goes was probably worth 4-5 million vs the 6.75 he’s actually paid. Not the best but far from a cap dump. The main question is can he keep it up or is he going to be a 5-7 D next year. Either way with his reputation and salary retained seattle could get as high as a 1st maybe more at the deadline but considering there’s no guarantee in that I’m glad we didn’t pay Francis’s price.

As well once again it was the right thing to do but seeing him in that jersey plus the tributes has been a knife to the heart, coming from someone who was a young kid that became a fan during the 04 cup run.

Well at least we don't have to worry about Tre signing Hyman...Friedman reporting 7 years @ around 40 million with a potential for them to acquire his right for an 8th year.

This is good news! Flames should be focusing on younger players on that term, Hyman is 29, 7 years yikes.

When will GMs learn that term is the killer. Hyman at 4 years at the rumored 5.125 per is somewhat reasonable, still too much for my liking, but at 7 or 8?! That's insane to me.

Hyman for 7 or 8 x $5.5?

Props to Treliving. Love Gio but past his prime and makes too much. Generally teams would have to pay to free up almost 7 mil!

Good asset management, good job by Brad. Now, with only $ 20.4M available for 9-10 spots, there is more to come.

Well he's trading for Pitlick so there goes almost 2 million of the space.

Shoulda, coulda, woulda. I'm not a Tre hater but man, some of his decisions make it really hard to defend him. Nothing against Pitlick but that's a spot that prevents Ruzicka, Phillips, or Zary from getting. I don't think Phillips or Zary would do particularly well on the 4th line but it'd at least let them get their feet wet and show hard work and skill.

Via Frank Seravalli: "Tyler Pitlick is expected to be flipped to the Calgary Flames." #Flames could be sending a "mid-round" pick to Seattle for Pitlick.

Yeah. We need more cap space, something is coming. it has to be Monahan, a trade for picks + prospects.

Lets hope something is coming.
I dont hate the suggested Pitlick move... he's 6'2''/200, right shot plays wing and center and at 1.75 he is 1.375 million less than Ryan was.

All good man. Hoping to see some major shakeups on the team. A soft team will not get very far in a Sutter system.

I’m fine with Pitlick he played some hard matchups last year. I think he’ll be fine in the bottom half of the lineup.
